Worrying in the Rain

October 30th, 2009 @ 5:48 pm by Mrs. Hamster

These past few weeks have been stressing me out. Everything is going great planning-wise, but it’s this crazy NYC weather! Way back when, we scheduled our engagement shoot - we chose October because usually the weather is crisp and cool, and the days are (mostly) sunny. The mans and I almost had our outfits picked out.

There was just one teeny, tiny problem - the extreme cold and rain we’ve been experiencing here. I tried to outsmart Mother Nature, to limited success. Witness:

Exhibit 1: My Firefox Setup for the past few days

Those tabs are Weddingbee, weather.com, accuweather, NY1 Local Forecast, blogger, and Facebook. As you can see it’s rain, rain, all the days this week, on the NY1 site.

Exhibit 2: summary of my crazy emails to our lovely photographer, Erica Lyn:

Email 1: Confirming our e-shoot on 10/15

Email 2: Asking if should we change our e-shoot to the day before?

Email 3: Saying no, it’s okay, let’s keep 10/15.

Note that Emails 2 and 3 were sent within half an hour of each other. Umm, sorry Erica!

This morning, the weather was quickly going from bad to worse. Erica and I assessed the situation in the morning, and by noon decided that it was just not great e-shoot weather. I was bummed, but I knew that non-rainy weather would really make for a better shoot.

Unfortunately, this means that I didn’t get to take full advantage of my hair and makeup trial that I had this morning with Sissi Chan (which turned out great - I’m super happy with the results! More on that in another post!). But I later went out in the rain and wind, and that confirmed that it was the right decision to reschedule. It is just miserable outside! I’ll keep you posted on E-Shoot: Take 2. ‘Til then:

Nature: 1, Miss Hamster: 0

Have you worried about something beyond your control, such as the weather?

Our engagement pics are scheduled for late November, so I’m definitely going to have to prepare for rain - our photographer seemed excited about the prospect of our session being in the rain?! I guess if it’s a light mist things might look ethereal but if it’s downright pouring, that might not be so fun :-/ I was thinking of getting some wellies or an umbrella with a bright pop of color to keep it from being all grey, though!

I live in Minnesota, and this exact same thing happened to us! It is really frustrating trying to work around nature. We were origially going to do our E-shoot in early October on my birthday, but it was gross and rainy. They ended up getting delayed to last weekend. It was partly cloudy, and cold, but we sucked it up and ditched our coats for pictures in out nice outfits. Our photographer said they turned out great, so I’m happy we waited. I can’t wait to see them!

Isn’t bad weather the worst? We were hoping to have our rehearsal dinner outside, but it was pouring and cold all day. It all worked out, but it was kind of a bummer.

How about some really sexy, drenched t-shirt, calvin-klein sort of shoot? j/k…. I once worried a little bit about weather on my wedding day but the forecast was perfect so I was lucky.

I hope it doesn’t rain on the big day, our venue just about triples in size in good weather.

our e-pics got rained out last weekend too! Texas is also getting way too much rain! I was totally bummed and know how you feel :(

Here’s to a sunnier day for the reschedule!

We haven’t scheduled our e-pics yet, so that means we’ll most likely do ours in the winter (which I am hoping will be a nice contrast to our summer wedding pics!). Hopefully we don’t have a blizzard on our e-pics day!

I’m scared that ours will get rained out next weekend! Will be no good. I do have my Hunters lined up though. :p

rainy weather can produce great photos, with a little bit of imagination it doesn’t have to be the big bad ogga that many brides dread

We barely lucked out for our shoot. It rained for 2 whole days before and cleared up right as we were leaving to meet the photogs.

we have ours tomorrow - and the forecast has gone from good weather, to rain and gales, to heavy showers, then light showers, and now, nice again!

so, fingers crossed that it won’t change overnight! I was hoping for lots of leaf photos, but it’s been raining today, so I don’t think that’s going to work so well.

Oh Miss Hamster, I totally feel you. I’m also a NYC bride and our engagement shoot was yesterday! Luckily, it didn’t actually rain but with our wet Halloween and the grim forecast, I was certainly nervous! I had sent similar emails to our photographer, worrying about the rain. In the end, it was cloudy and our photographer said the lighting was perfect. I hope your rescheduled shoot has ideal autumn weather, and I can’t wait to see your pics!

If you want to look good and stand out from the crowd, you need our WedgeWelly boots!

Our Wellies are guaranteed to give you a height advantage over those flat Wellie wearers, and…………………. the high fashion surface patterns will make you the envy of everyone!!!!

And if that’s not enough………………. these Wellies will be the most comfortable you will ever put on your feet (so if you’re planning long walks, make sure your feet are well looked after in our slipper inspired WedgeWellys!!).

Rain rain go away, come back on a WedgeWelly day.

Oooh, I want some Wellies. I’m worried that it’ll rain on our wedding day! April showers bring May flowers, I’m told. =T
