… And about a year’s worth of stuff to do. And all the while, my laptop is busted, I’ve been sick for almost a week, and I even got Mr. MB sick for good measure. Seriously! But one thing is going well: my paper flower wall. I worked on it when I was back in Texas.
I ventured to Home Depot, bought a $13 piece of plywood, one of those $3 sample cans of paint and a $1 foam brush.
I took this all to my Mom’s new house, which was thankfully still unfurnished and unpainted. So I could paint inside (where it wasn’t rainy, humid or hot) and not worry about spills. (Note, the sample can of paint was not enough to actually coat the piece of plywood, but since I was covering it with a bajillion flowers, I just thinned it with water and finished the job.)
We fiddled around with making a stand for it similar to a large picture frame, but plywood is heavy and we decided it could just lean against a wall.
In the first stages of our planning I researched different options for traveling with a wedding dress. In some threads on the boards, brides were saying it would be of no harm if you just stuck the dress in a backpack as your carry on. Well that’s a really good option, but a couple of things came to mind:
Because the space (and weight) of the backpack was too precious, I decided to go a different way, and pictured this in my mind:

Why, hello hive! Yes, it’s really me - I know, long time no blog! I guess I sort of missed doing a “one-year” post, but better late than never, right?
Much has happened since I last posted, including many wedding/marriage-related things that I plan to write about… so I thought I’d give a preview of what’s to come in the form of a Daffodil update of sorts!
We celebrated our one-year wedding anniversary! We spent an extended weekend in beautiful Maui, a second honeymoon if you will (considering how our real honeymoon got cut short!). It was perhaps the most relaxing, carefree vacation either of us has ever had. It’s hard to believe we’re already quickly approaching the 1.5 year mark!

As the sun dipped beneath the now snow-capped mountains, we lounged at the adorable boutique hotel my girls had picked out for me: The Curtis in downtown Denver. Themed floors, elevators that whistle at you, and a restaurant called the Corner Office all make this hotel incredibly retro and kitschy. Our floor theme? The Perfect Pair (adorned by the photograph of a little boy with bubble gum all over his face in our room).
I don’t have any fun pictures of the hotel except for the one below, of all of us standing in front of a sixties-style wall.

Somehow on the third day in Paris, we managed to take zero photos. So this post is all video. I apologize if you’re reading this from work, and you can’t watch them!
It was our final day in Paris, and we decided to spend the day in Versailles—if you’re not familiar with it, Versailles is a city located just a little outside of Paris. It’s the home of the famously ornate Château de Versailles, well known as the home of Marie Antoinette and Louis XVI during their marriage. We read in our guidebook that you should get there early, as the Palace tends to get very crowded with tourists during the day. The book also suggested spending the entire day in Versailles. We took the Metro and the RER (kind of like a suburban rail), and it took us about an hour total.
When we arrived, it was cloudy and cold and windy, and we were sleepy! And we had to walk a pretty good walk from the train stop to the Palace. Honestly, I just wanted to go back to sleep.
Our first impression upon walking up to the front of the Palace was “Uh, where’s all the grass and trees and stuff?”

Once my parents “gave” me away, I joined Mr. Joey, MOH Joey and BM Joey on the altar. Instead of having a full mass, we opted to do a Catholic blessing instead. Neither of us are regular mass goers and Mr. Joey is less Catholic than I am. We thought a blessing would be a nice compromise, plus, we needed to keep the ceremony short because of traffic concerns.
Father H. started with a brief welcome and opening prayer.

Apparently MOH Joey was already a little bored.
Hi, I am Mrs. Peep Toe, and I am spoiled rotten.
A few months before our wedding, I *might* have mentioned under my breath (which might have also been ridden with alcohol) that my engagement ring would look even more perfect flanked by not just one band, but two. Yep, I was that girl that asked for it all up front.
Oops, did I do that??
So the day before our wedding, while I was getting the VERY BEST massage of my life, Mr. Peep was not just getting my ring cleaned, but also getting another friend for my finger (thank you tax return).
I have no pictures of us exchanging our presents, but I did take a picture of all three rings while I was basking in post-bridal bliss the morning after the wedding.
And yes, that is Mr. Peep in the background blissfully sleeping, and yes, I have a totally crazy pinky finger, and yes, the time stamp is totally wrong and annoying (more on that later).

I had a bridesman in the wedding. He is my best friend Patrick. He came from New York City to be part of the wedding and it was better because he was there. He is a huge part of my life. Each week Patrick and I do a vlog on YouTube about reality television. And we decided to do a wedding vlog because our viewers were interested. I wanted to share it with the hive!
All of our vlogs start the same way: “Hi the is Pat and Carolyn,” so this one starts that way, too!
So far, the vendors we’ve talked to have been professional, friendly, and not at all pushy. I have to admit: I was expecting the worst! So when I got home from watching the Patriots game one afternoon (go Pats!) and received this email, I was amused.
Hi P.Chips -
Your fiance is probably watching a football game. And it’s a rainy Sunday afternoon. What better time to call your potential wedding videographer and talk about the sample DVD he sent you and ask if he still has your wedding date available?
Maybe even ask if he’s running a promotion or has any discount offers.
BTW – my favorite team is not playing right now so I have plenty of time to answer your questions or reply to an email. Look forward to hearing from you.
Regards,
XX
Ohhh reeeeallly Mr. Douché? Yeah? That’s the sales pitch you’re going to use?

Mrs. Bee, Mrs. Apple Cider, Mrs. Onion, Mrs. Canary, readers Serena and Alex and I had the honor of attending the Martha Stewart Weddings 15th anniversary party at The Plaza Hotel this week. The event was set up to mimic a lavish wedding, hosted by the beautiful Darcy Miller. Highlights included a candy buffet by Amy Atlas, a photobooth, catering by Morimoto, 3 live bands, and elegance at every turn! It was a total blast, and it was great to hang out with the best and the brightest in the wedding industry for a night!

The room was cast in warm pinks, with white high tables and pastel florals.
Recently I went to meet with a few florists in my area. Don’t ask me who; I ran out so quickly I don’t even remember their names. I went in with absolutely no idea whatsoever about the costs of wedding flowers. I walked out with the worst case of sticker shock I’ve ever had. Where’s that rascally Ashton Kutcher? I must be on Punk’d… right? Yeah, no, not so much.
I made the common bridal mistake of thinking that because I don’t want “a ton of flowers”, they can’t possibly want to charge me thousands of dollars for something that will die in a few days. Boy, was I wrong. A couple thousand was the minimum. I was kinda bummed because I met with one florist that I really really liked. Not throw $2000 dollars into the wind liked, though. I decided that a floral designer just wasn’t in the cards for me. There are things that I can justify spending a large amount of money on, but something that will literally DIE in a few days? H-E-double hockey sticks (oh yeah, I pulled that one out from 1995) no.
I then went to a local wholesale florist called Jennie’s. Unfortunately their phone number is not 867-5309, but that doesn’t take away from their super awesomeness. I don’t know who Jennie is, but she’s my new BFF. Their prices were amazing. I called my mom and told her about Jennie’s and how they saved my soul (I guess today is musical reference day). A few days passed and I was still on a Jennie’s high, then it hit me… uhm… I have to put all these flowers together the day before the wedding? Transport them there? Make sure they stay all pretty? I don’t have a refrigerator that I can dedicate solely to flowers! Me no likey.

Without fail, I get sick every fall. And then for good measure, I get sick again every January/February. It’s not that I don’t take care of myself; rather, I work in close quarters with other people (shout out to my fellow cube-dwelling bees). Getting sick usually isn’t a problem, just more of a seasonal annoyance. I know that by next June, most of the ickyness of cold and flu season will be long gone (thankfully!) so I won’t have to worry about sniffling my way down the aisle because of a cold (because I’m crying is a totes different reason!). But there is the small issue of using up my precious paid time off at work when I do get sick this winter. It’s inevitable.

You see, the wedding is cutting into a large chunk of our PTO time next year.

I wrote this post while listening to this wonderful song, so I think it’s only fair if you listen to it while you read it. ![]()
Okay, I didn’t really listen to Kim, but it’s funny and it fit with the topic. The real reason for this post is to talk about the after party.
We have a lot of people coming from out of town to celebrate with us, and I don’t want our time to be limited from 6:30-11, so we are definitely having an after party. However, by this point in the wedding process I know I’ll be done with the formal, planned, organized events.

Are you an optimist or pessimist? What about your SO? How does this affect your relationship?
Mrs. Gloss - Always half full for me. He’s a total pessimist - I think we balance each other out. He reminds me I shouldn’t trust everyone, and I remind him it’s okay to trust someone.
Miss Moonbeam - I think we both have our cycles of ups and downs, but Mr. Moonbeam is very much a believer in making your own destiny, so maybe he’s the slightly more positive thinker of the two. I have always believed that things will find their way to being OK, but I get kinda bummed sometimes if it’s taking a while.
