Mrs. Mary Jane, Grand Forks, NDAge and Occupation: 26, Instructional DesignerFiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Lead ProgrammerEngagement Date: February 28, 2009Wedding Date: September 2009Venue: City HallAbout Me: I'm a career woman on the surface and a homemaker at heart. I love fast cars and high heels, and my favorite food is cake. Mr. Mary Jane and I are both full-time employees and students, and we just bought our first house. We love to curl up on the couch with buttery popcorn, Sour Patch Kids, and the latest Netflix arrival -- whenever we can get a break from everyday life.
Confession: I don’t have any pics us getting ready, and that’s how I wanted it. Why? Because it was a process pretty similar to when we get ready for work in the morning, but with more hairspray and fancier clothes.
All of our getting-ready efforts took place here:
Our one and only full bathroom. I started by taking a shower. I shaved, plucked, scrubbed and conditioned. Read more…
Mrs. Parfait, ChicagoAge and Occupation: 26, TeacherFiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Senior Online ConsultantEngagement Date: February 14, 2009Wedding Date: April 2010Venue: Signature EventsAbout Me: I have a soft spot for all things sweet and romantic. Desserts, love songs, sappy movies? Yes, yes, and ohh yes. My fiance and I enjoy singing to our dogs, creating crazy ice cream sundaes, and generally being lovey dovey cuddle bunnies. We also do socially acceptable things like dancing, throwing Frisbees, playing high stakes board games, and taking unreasonably fun road-trips. We're planning a Korean/Serbian wedding with plenty of playful, personal touches!
This is the story of how my mother, my pinkies, and my two-year-old nephew helped me find the dress of my dreams.
It started last weekend, when I heard choruses of: “Your wedding is in six months? You need to choose a dress TODAY!” I had been waiting to go with my mom, who lives in Florida. My dad realized that I was just going to keep twiddling my thumbs until she got here, so he put her on a plane with instructions to visit as many bridal shops as I wanted. We went to three, which was more than enough for us!
We started at White Satin Bridal in Plainfield. The store was spacious, clean, and peaceful. Totally our style. I loved every minute we spent there!

Mr. Sushi and I are both haolepinos (half Filipino, half Caucasian) and hope to be able to somehow incorporate our cultures at our destination wedding in Hawaii. All while planning from the sweetest place in earth, Hershey!
We had the option of writing our own vows, but, to be honest, I’m not much of a writer. Instead, we chose one of Alice’s vow suggestions.
Declaration of Intent:

My hobbies include sleeping in, seasonal brews, running, Trader Joe’s, and watching Unwrapped and Good Eats with Mr. Potato Chips. I harbor an irrational fear of tulle, crafts, things that are fussy, and overuse of the phrase "Your Special Day". After a year or seven together, down the aisle we go, slouching toward adulthood and planning a Rhodie party with equal parts whimsy, cheer, and pizza.
In this post, I wrote that I had to dig through couch cushions to find enough spare change to afford that lovely J.Crew dress. Did you think I was kidding? I wasn’t. Who knew that this:

Do you and your SO have the same life goals? How do you reconcile your differences?
Mrs. Cheese - Our life goals are very similar: kids, financial stability, engaging careers that don’t take over our lives. He’s much more tied to where we live than I am; I always assumed I’d move cities a lot. He wants to have a paid-for house and our very own vacation island; I want us to travel (and move to other cities). Our goals are all compatible. The scary part, for me, is that being with this man changed my future. My career is less fulfilling as long as I work from home, but I’m not willing to travel heavily anymore and he’s not ready to move to another city… and to be honest, neither am I. I’m feeling very settled, and while I appreciate the feeling of stability, it makes me wonder what that means for my career. But I’ve had the kind of job that took over my life and brain and although I loved it, I could not manage my personal life successfully. I’ll take this, thankyouverymuch. Read more…
Mrs. Chick, HoustonAge and Occupation: 28, Rights and Reproduction ManagerFiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Computer ProgrammerEngagement Date: November 15, 2008Wedding Date: April 2010Venue: A farm outside of HoustonAbout Me: Mr. Chick and I met almost ten years ago at Baker Blues, a college jazz party. He was attracted to my intensity, and I was mesmerized by his trivia pursuit skills and his dorm furniture adorned with his initials. We've grown more sophisticated through the years, with our love of wine, owning a house together, and parenthood (of a cat), but we have not lost our silliness or childish sense of humor!
Today is my second day at home from work with bacon flu. Okay, I don’t really have bacon flu, but it’s fun to say bacon! I can’t stop blowing my nose, sneezing, or eating Gardetto’s (skipping the sesame bread sticks, eek). Anyway, I was watching The Office: Pam and Jim’s wedding promo, and I noticed the adorable cake toppers!! It’s vintage, but quirky at the same time:
Did you have your cake topper custom made? Do the toppers represent or resemble you in any way?
Mrs. French Fries, MilwaukeeAge and Occupation: 27, ParalegalFiance's Age and Occupation: 35, Investments AdvisorEngagement Date: September 20, 2008Wedding Date: June 2010Venue: Ceremony: Catholic Church, Reception: Hotel BallroomAbout Me: I'm a Midwestern girl who longs to live in a warmer climate (my feet would be happy in flip flops any day!). I love travel, impromptu napping, grilled cheese sandwiches, my iPhone, singing with reckless abandon in my car, and Mr. French Fries.
When we started planning the wedding, we decided to mentally go through our lists of “must-haves” and things that we were just sort of “meh” about. I believe some people call this “prioritization.” On the top of Mr. French Fries’ list was an awesome reception — something that would be full of really good food and plenty to drink. We drove from venue to venue, weighing options, per-person prices, package prices, the whole deal. In the end, we picked our venue with the confidence that people would go home happy (and full!). To us, I guess, food = love. We’re good Germans like that.
Mrs. Sprinkle, Los AngelesAge and Occupation: 26, Preschool Teacher
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Television Production/WriterEngagement Date: December 24, 2008Wedding Date: September 2009Venue: The Marvimon HouseAbout Me: I'm a Bay Area native trying to create a life for myself (and my fiance, and our three cats!) in the vast city of Los Angeles. I love vegan red velvet cupcakes, pilates ,and mid-century furniture. Mr. Sprinkle and I met when my band toured through his city (we bonded over cake and a mutual love of Morrissey) and we are getting married on the four year anniversary of our first date. When I am not teaching preschool (or blogging!) you can find me perfecting recipes, petting kittens, hiking in Griffith Park, and overusing exclamation points. We are planning a vegan, green-as-possible, DIY wedding, and I couldn't be more excited to share all of the details!
Our very first stop was an unplanned one. We spotted a Whole Foods and we just had to see what kind of vegan delicacies they might carry, and grab a little lunch while we were there. While their vegan selection was slightly lacking, they made up for it by having red beans and rice AND GIANT PICKLES! I <3 pickles.
(Mr. Sprinkle enjoying our lunch in the humidity, outside of Whole Foods)

I love my job most of the time because I get to travel and work with brilliant people who are trying to prevent Malaria. I love DIY projects of all sorts, cooking, and watching sports. I'd wear anything at Anthropologie and could spend all day on Etsy. I love to travel but shouldn't because I always get myself into unbelievable situations!
Mrs. Lamb, NorfolkAge and Occupation: 25, Homeland Security ConsultantFiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Graduate StudentEngagement Date: January 2009Wedding Date: January 2010Venue: Trinity Presbyterian Church/Harrison Opera HouseAbout Me: I’m a Homeland Security Consultant with a tendency towards pulling office pranks, taking lunch breaks, and drinking Wawa shakes. I’m also an English major with a serious obsession with alliteration and rhymes. While I’m not keeping America safe, I’m training for half marathons and the Escape from Alcatraz swim. Or moving for the third time this year. Or baking. Or wedding crafting. Or crying about wedding planning. All the while, I’m getting myself into Lucille Ball-esque scrapes and making Jim Carey-esque faces. Our big fat Czech/Baptist/Jewish/Italian wedding is a combination of vintage eclectic, DIY, and little spoonful of sugar from our Event Coordinator. It’s going to be a Norfolk flavored wedding with the verve of an only-daughter-blow-out bash!
Buying your jewelry from a store where it’s manufactured is a win situation. You get what you want. (I frequently do this.)
Buying your jewelry from someone who hand made it is a win win situation. You get what you want and the artisan gets to create what they love. (Yay! I do this sometimes, and sometimes I get to be the artisan!)
Buying your jewelry from someone who hand made it and the money directly assists them in raising their standard of living is a win win win. (Winning all around in a much more meaningful way than wearing a tuba playing baby t-shirt.)
The two following organizations are ones with which either my mom or I have personally shopped. They both help women in desperate situations build their lives - a win win win situation, for sure. Not only do I love wearing my jewelry, but I get so many compliments that I’m able to share the cause.

Although
I am an engineer by day, I feed my inner creative side through crafting, sewing, and obsessing over Martha Stewart. I love coffee, my mister, NPR, and exploring all the nooks and crannies of Austin.
I can't wait to share my adventures in DIY and wedding planning with all of you!
This past weekend, my FILs attended a wedding at a hotel here in Austin. They had a wonderful time, but we were appalled, as were they, when they proceeded to retell us the story of the card box.
Apparently the card basket was located outside of the reception area, in the foyer. There was a security guard on duty and the couple had also hired a wedding coordinator. At some point during the reception (they think it was during the cake cutting) the ENTIRE card box and all its contents was stolen. Read more…
Mrs. Rainbow, TampaAge and Occupation: 22, Makeup ArtistFiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Electrical Engineer/ProgrammerEngagement Date: November 27, 2008Wedding Date: May 2010Venue: The Gamble PlantationAbout Me: I'm a quirky (and slightly Type-A) freelance makeup artist who was born in Washington State, raised in Alabama, and now living with my one and only in sunny Florida. I'm fashion and beauty obsessed, and have recently discovered my inner domestic diva extraordinaire. I'm a wannabe chef, decorating addict, and trying desperately to be as crafty as possible---albeit only with a glue gun. I'm hopelessly in love with my fiance, and all things sparkly and feathery. Despite the glittery exterior, I'm a total hippie on the inside. When I'm not making up pretty faces, I love doing what I can to help people, animals, and the environment. Someday the FI and I will change the world, but first we're tackling our modern-vintage-Marie-Antoinette-meets-Alice-in-Wonderland inspired wedding. I just can't wait to be Mrs. Rainbow!
In the past few months, Mr. R and I have been tossing around ideas about the bar at our wedding. Since we have a definite location, no corkage fee, and our DOC has a great (and super inexpensive) bartender that she often works with, cost isn’t as much of an issue as we thought it would be, fortunately, so I just assumed we’d have an open bar.
