So you may remember that I am having a little trouble figuring out what to do about my tattoo on my wedding day. Said tattoo has been a source of stress for me for some time. Well, I finally decided to start trying out some options for covering it up. But let’s see it before:

Try not to make fun, I’m already sad about it.

This weekend was supposed to be my PWC (post wedding chop) weekend, and I was VERY ready. I was Google image searching ALL Friday for ’short curly hair’ knowing that I was ready for a big change (which doesn’t happen that often). After venting my frustration about only finding decaying pictures from the ’80s and early ’90s - Mrs. Cupcake confirmed my fear that there are no cute short haircuts for CHG (curly hair girls). But, ugh - I was SO ready for that change. I though about changing the color, but I’m way to lazy to maintain something like that.

Encouraging wall graffiti provides the perfect backdrop for Erganic Design’s amber city-chic bouquet.

I’d hinted that there might be some bees buzzin’ around our wedding festivities. As our RSVPs were coming in and I saw that our guest count was going to be lower than we’d be planning, I was SO excited to reach out to the bees to see if any of them would be at all interested in celebrating the day with us.
When Mrs. Quiche, Miss Snapdragon, Mrs. Taffy and Mrs. Powder Puff all accepted my open invitation, I was psyched! Blogging for Weddingbee became more and more important to me as the wedding day drew closer, and having some of my bee friends at the wedding was very special for both Mr. S and me.
The bees dined…
… danced (and even stole the show on the dance floor at one point - I can’t wait to share those photos!)…

When we last left our saga, I was in meltdown mode about my dress. I was on the phone with Momma French Fries, and I was desperately trying to figure out what was wrong with the dress in hopes that we could make it right.
For starters, I didn’t like the bodice of the gown. It was covered in embroidery and crystals, and the proportions looked off to me and made my hips look wonky. To make matters worse, it looked too short. Since I’m so tall, I was adamant in the dress shop about checking to see if I needed extra length. The shop informed me that it was a “perfect length” as is, and if I ordered extra length, there not only would be a charge for the extra material but a charge when I took the dress for alterations “just so they could chop [the length] off again”. I figured that they knew what they were doing, so I ordered the standard length, in my size. When I ordered it, I also altered the bodice a bit by taking out a mesh panel in the sweetheart neckline and extending satin all the way across. Need a visual?
I’m not going to be posting pictures of myself in the dresses (as Mr. French Fries is a regular reader and I don’t want him seeing me in white until the day of), but I will post a picture of it on a model:

We arrived at Hout Bay Manor just in time for some bridal party and family photographs. We had intended to do some of these at the Lightning family home, but getting 6 girls ready in time proved impossible, and so I had to leave for our Long Street portraits before everyone was ready for pictures.

I love me some cheesiness, and if my world were perfect, goofiness would have been spread around our property far and wide. I wanted silly signs, funny photos, witty sayings, and lots o’ love songs.
Alas, my DIY skills (and time and dedication, frankly) were lacking, but I did manage to pull together a few really fantastic details at the last minute. Some were literally at the last minute: I stayed up until 1:00 AM the night before we got married doing the things I just. had. to. do.
Y’all know what I’m saying, yes? Sometimes, sleep be damned, a woman’s just gotta follow her inner cheese and DIY some stuff. And if you feel the need, the insane desire to make some stuff that is not strictly required, and you just know that even if nobody else notices, YOU will notice and be just a tiny bit happier, do it. Throw practicality to the wind and make some stuff (but only if you are confident you can do that and still enjoy your wedding day, mkay?).
Behold, a non-DIYers version of DIY:
Little goofy table tents that I loved more than I should have. Loved. Made them at 1:00 AM and smiled every time I saw them (okay, and every time I pointed them out to people, every one of the hundred times I may have done that because I loved them so much). My husband and I both have goofy, cheesy souls.
I attended 7 weddings last year. Prior to last year, I was gaga over weddings. I would get bridal magazines in the airport on business trips so no one would know. I would chat with Ewe Mom and rip out ads to save in a folder she kept. It was clandestine, pre-ring wedding planning. More on this topic later, but for now, just know that I loved long tables since I was clandestine wedding planning. Also know that I have yet to be at a reception featuring any other table shape than round.
These are the reasons why I fell in love with long tables:
As soon as Mr. Parfait and I chose our date, I was ready and rarin’ to start creating our stationery! First up: Save the Dates!
I think magnet Save the Dates are adorable, so I researched some magnet-making companies. I have little faith in my artistic abilities, so I was looking for a pretty template that I could fill in. The three sites I checked out were Overnight Prints, VistaPrint, and MagnetStreet. I’ll share about my brief encounters with the first two companies and my experience using the last. Of course, their prices, selection, and websites may change after this post!

Overnight Prints: 100 magnets (2? x 3.5?) = $44.95
… besides saying “yes” and “I do”. The Colors. Dun, dun, dun… cue the ominous music. Okay, maybe it’s not THAT serious, but it’s close! Wedding colors dictate the whole feel/mood/ambiance of a wedding, or any space, for that matter. Think about it… you go to a spa and everything is soothing and calm: blues, greens, greys. A nice restaurant: rich reds, browns, and golds; it’s warm and inviting. This is not by accident, people! It has been proven time and time again that colors really DO affect our mood and perception. That being said, my first instinct was a peacock theme. Anyone who knows me knows I ADORE feathers, any and all types. My senior prom dress was covered in feathers, and yes, it was fabulous. I think they are just the absolute most dreamy, fairy tale-esque, whimsical thing on the planet. So, peacock it was!
When we left off, I had found a swoon-worthy dress, my friends were smiling wide, and MamaChips had a frown on her face.
So I tried it on once more, and while MamaChips fiddled with the back, I turned toward SistahChips and had this telepathic conversation:
Me: Mom doesn’t like it.
SistahChips: I know. This is so My Senior Year Prom Dress all over again.
Me: I can’t get it if Mom doesn’t like it. I’ll never hear the end of it.
SistahChips: You can’t get it if Mom doesn’t like it. You’ll never hear the end of it.
Me: *beginning to tear up a bit* Damn I like this dress!!
MamaChip, meanwhile, hoisted the straps up (I have the shortest torso in creation) and rearranged the train.
“It’s pretty,” she said, but I could still see the doubt in her eyes. I looked in the mirror and couldn’t stop from smiling wide.
“Why don’t you walk around in it?” suggested my SweetPotatoFriend.
So I walked off the platform, train behind me, then whirled about. I put my hands in front of me, holding my pretend-bouquet, and took careful steps down the concrete convention center aisle. One of my friends began to cry, always a good sign.
And then. And THEN. My mom began to cry as well. Yes!

So, I was dead set on not assigning tables for the wedding. It felt like a giant stressor so close to the end, and I just didn’t want to do that to myself. But then I read this post on the Weddingbee boards and I started to second guess myself. My problem with assigning tables is if people don’t come to the wedding that RSVPed, the people at that table might feel shunned. And what if people just ignore the assignments, anyway? And what if I can’t figure out who should sit together? OR worse, what if I forget to assign a seat to someone?
Now, I’ve been to weddings where seating is assigned and weddings where it isn’t. I’ve never felt like I was scrambling when it wasn’t assigned, nor did I feel like I had to “mark” my table. I’m just so torn.
On a positive note, there are so many adorable ways to personalize the name cards and table numbers. I did feel sad at one point that I wouldn’t be taking on that task. Here are some ideas that I love:

What did you think your future spouse would look like, and what does he/she actually look like?
Ms. Swan - HA! I thought I wanted: TALL :), well-built, dark hair, a medium to dark skin complexion, and dark eyes a la Boris Kodjoe.

Instead, Mr. Swan is kinda short, has blonde hair, and hazel eyes (he’s well built, though). ![]()
