When my grandmother (my Vavó) and mother came to this country from the Açores, Portugal, my grandmother didn’t speak any English (and never really learned any, come to think of it). Nevertheless, Vavó got a job in the Priscilla of Boston factory (in Boston), sewing the pearls and beads on wedding dresses. My mom’s wedding dress was even a sample from the store window! For those reasons alone, I very much want to shop there, if the whole Filene’s Grumbling-of-the-Bride doesn’t pan out.
And then, there is Drew. Although this dress apparently graced the cover of Modern Bride in 2008, I only just spotted her in the pages of a Fall 2009/Winter 2010 copy of The Knot wedding magazine, paired with ridiculously cute shoes.
I know we still have a considerable amount of time before we need to consider our rehearsal dinner invites, but I always hear about brides stressing at the last minute and wishing they started some of their projects earlier. So why not the rehearsal dinner invites? I mean, it’s not like I have no idea what we’re doing for our actual wedding invites (actually, I have no idea what we’re doing; I’ve changed my mind a thousand times, and I guess I’m just trying to put off thinking about it. Ahh, you like that denial?). So here’s my inspiration for the rehearsal invites:

Before Mr. Joey and I saw each other, our photog Jess ran around collecting shots of a few ceremony details.

I received our highlight video from the super talented Digital Princess Productions, (a vendor rec from Mrs. Meatball!) and it made me so happy. I got butterflies in my stomach, and I was transformed back to that sweet day. Since then, I can’t stop watching it. It’s actually pretty fun to see the whole event on camera! If you can swing it, I’d highly recommend hiring a videographer or asking a friend to follow you with their camcorder for the day.
By watching the video closely, you might discover a few details I have yet to talk about in my posts or recaps. For example, a performance from a Los Angeles-based Korean drumming team, a beautiful pictoral tribute to generations of family, and a surprise performance by my husband!! Unbeknownst to me, Mr. G worked for months with a local musician to write a song. He sang it to me in front of 250+ guests: a moment I will never, ever forget.
Enjoy this little slice of our day!

“Make an elegant invitation statement without the fuss. Stylish invitation sets with matching envelopes, reception and response cards included.”
Even as my dress resolve remained with my heritage dresses, Ewe Mother and I visited salons in order to find the fit, style, and inspiration for my designed gown. We first visited P. Lawrence Bridal in my hometown. Our bridal consultant, Angela, was amazing! She let us go through the racks, I tried on as many gowns as I wanted during our hour appointment, we were allowed to take pictures, and she even wrote all of the designer information down for us when I had chosen my top dresses. I hadn’t even brought a camera because I had been watching “Say Yes to the Dress” and Kleinfeld’s says photo snapping is a huge No-No! Another plus to visiting P. Lawrence is that they have a sample sale rack in the back of the store. Perfect for brides looking for a deal.
The second salon we visited that same morning was Distinctive Designs Bridal. Again, we worked with a delightful consultant who let us browse the racks. This consultant readily told me what worked for my figure and when we showed her a magazine ad of an Anne Barge dress:
Have you ever been forced to wait for something for so long and with such anticipation that once it rolls around it catches you completely off-guard? Well. I’d been going quietly about my day today, entering the piles of paperwork that have been covering my desk for the past month, while my mind was off in the clouds—nervous about meeting every single member of Mr. Dachshund’s extended family this weekend.
Then it hit me.
Mr. Dachshund will be here soon. In-two-weeks soon.
For.
Good.
Please don’t misunderstand; I am absolutely excited and thrilled that Mr. D and I get to start our life together, for realz. However. I’m also anxious, nervous, overwhelmed and, well, just a tiny bit terrified.
I’ve lived by myself for quite a long time. While Mr. D prooobably won’t mind my habit of walking around in my underwear, I’m sure he won’t appreciate my pants lying on the floor on the exact spot in which they were removed… a habit I’ll soon have try to break. I’ll let you guys in on a little secret: I suffer from an aversion to housework.
It’s not just the superficial things I’m nervous about.

I went to my first Serbian wedding last May. Mr. Parfait’s cousin and her now-husband incorporated some beautiful traditions, which led me to wonder what Korean and Serbian traditions we will have in our wedding!
The day started with a Skup Svatova at the bride’s house—a pre-wedding celebration where guests greet each other, enjoy live music, eat, and drink. Afterwards, we headed to a Serbian church for their ceremony. I have only seen two Serbian churches in person (and dozens online), and they have all been works of art! Stories from the Bible illustrated the walls, the arches, and even the ceiling.

Saturday was our first cake tasting, and I was possibly a little too excited about it. If it has anything to do with frosting and sugar and butter, well… I’m going to be excited. We went to a tasting at one of the more well known shops in our area. They did my sister’s cake (which was delish) and have gotten great reviews.
Now, let me preface this by saying I was 99.9% sure what type of cake we were going to get if we decided to go with this bakery before we even set foot inside of its doors. It’s not that I am a complete control-freak bride. Rather, I’ve had it several times at my old place of employment, and just had it for Sister French Fries’ and Dad French Fries’ birthdays a few weeks ago. Every time I’ve had it, it has been amazing. So, it’s a safe choice, even though it’s not exactly your typical wedding cake.
Because Mr. French Fries and I have discussed — and are in agreement — that this cake would be perfect, I hesitated to try it again, but we decided to add it to the list, just to be on the safe side. We narrowed it down to the following choices:
Yum! I took a picture of all of the choices and will report back in a separate post about our thoughts.

I. Am. A. Beeeeee!!! Squeeeeeeeal! WOW! Is this really happening?! Why yes, I think it is! I cannot tell you how absolutely excited and honored I am to be able to share my wedding planning trials and tribulations with the hive! I must admit, along with that excitement comes absolute terror, but it’s a good fear! I started my blog a little over two weeks ago with the (sole, tee hee) intention of applying for the ’bee. I never in my wildest dreams thought that I would be accepted, much less find out a long and grueling two whole days later!
Needless to say, when I got the email from Pengy, I squealed, jumped, flailed my arms, danced, rinsed, and repeated.
So, why Miss Rainbow? Firstly, I have a penchant for deeming everything—the good, bad, and ugly— “sunshine and rainbows”. As in: “Honey, you might wanna give it a few minutes before you go into the bathroom, it smells like sunshine and rainbows in there…”
Okay, too much sharing for day one? *blush* Second, I am a big advocate of gay rights, especially when it comes to marriage. I can’t wait until the day when all of us, every single one, can live in a just and unprejudiced nation and truly share equal rights as human beings. And lastly, well, have you seen those puffy little clouds?! Too cute!

… It was a cold and drizzly autumn day in Milwaukee, WI. I got all gussied up for a very special night, butterflies flipping around in my belly like so many Mexican jumping beans. I waited, anxious, excited and nervous; sitting, standing, fidgeting, checking and rechecking my hair and makeup. A knock at the door sent thrills through my body. It was the man who would become my future husband, come to pick me up for our very first official date.
From here…
He took me to a pottery painting shop, where we designed a sushi plate sporting cartoons of both of our faces, a heart, and a piece of avocado sushi. That plate now hangs on our wall. We initialed the back of it, and Mr. M suggested we draw a heart around our initials and add a plus sign between them. I melted. He took me for frozen custard, my favorite, a treat before a delicious and romantic Italian dinner together. Later, I gave him a fleece Spiderman blanket that I had bought to commemorate the occasion. It was a heavenly first date - the first of so many, that would lead us to an eventual (and long anticipated) walk down the aisle.

Yep, we’re procrastinators. But Mr. Star and I got up really early a few days ago to get to the NYC Marriage Bureau when they opened so that we could be legally ready to marry!
It was a shockingly short visit, probably 20 minutes or less. We basically just had to give our contact info, parents’ birthplaces, show our IDs, charge some moolah on my credit card, and away we went! Off into the morning glare with our very official-looking paperwork!
We asked some random lady who was handing out fliers if she would take our picture on the steps. And yes, those are the same steps that we protested in front of just a few months ago.
Shower #2 was held in my hometown of San Antonio at a friend’s neighborhood pavilion. My lovely hostesses got tablecloths and flowers to coordinate with our wedding colors, prepared some quesadillas and other Mexican goodies and planned out a lovely afternoon for us all. And check out these cuties (they’re 2 of my 3 flower girls).
I have numerous blog posts in draft form, potential topics to write about, like “catering search” or “long distance stuff”. One of my drafts says:
wedding dress + boobs
I had planned this blog in my head months ago. How I would write about my trepidation for dress shopping.
Me and dresses… don’t get along. Shopping trips usually ended with me in tears of frustration. My dress shopping fear and anxiety is so well known that when I was a bridesmaid in a friend’s wedding, her fiance sent along a flask of caramel apple martini, just for me. And I drank it. In the dressing room of David’s Bridal.
I anticipated the dress search being the culmination of my dress-shopping woes and frustrations. I am just so dang hard to fit: I am 4′11″, not an inch taller. My torso is short. And then, the boobs.
Oh, the boobs! We’re not talking D/DD boobs. We are talking E and F territory.
With a size 4 waist and a size 12/14 top, I only half-heartedly flipped through the pages of wedding magazines, knowing I’d be unable to wear 90% of the gowns shown. I figured I’d search for a V-neck frock, maybe like the simple one I wrote previously about. But there’s been a game-changer.

Were you physically attracted to your fiance immediately, or did the physical attraction come after you got to know each other more?
Mrs. Mascara - I had a huge crush on Mr. Mascara as a high school freshman, which is weird considering we didn’t really know each other at that point! I remember secretly being jealous when he asked a friend of mine to a dance my freshman year. We didn’t end up dating until a couple years later, but I think the attraction was always there!
Mrs. Snow Pea - Immediately. He had good teeth, eyes, a nice smile and clean fingernails.
