Hi, I’m Miss Beagle. I used to blog here more frequently, but recently I find that I am swamped with starting last minute projects and wrapping up projects that I started a long time ago. All the cute posts full of DIY tutorials and pictures (um, like of our invitations that I’ve been meaning to post for the last two weeks!!!) seem to keep getting pushed back. I will try my hardest to get some of these posts out before our wedding day and am sorry for the delay!
So, now that I’ve got the apology out of the way, I can move on to discuss the topic of this post. This past weekend, I had my final bridal shower. It was a little bittersweet because we had originally rescheduled it to October in hopes that my mom might be able to attend. This weekend also marked another milestone—her birthday. It was a point that was once looming in the future and has suddenly come and past. I now have three weeks ’til the big day and it’s finally starting to feel real. I’m feeling a mixture of emotions: nervous, anxious, excited, sad, and definitely ready to marry Mr. Beagle.
Even though it still feels like I have so much to do in the next three weeks, I know that they are really going to fly by.

It seems a little surreal to think that we’ve already been married for a month! I think it’s safe to say it’s been the best month of my life thus far. What better way to celebrate our one month anniversary than by sharing a couple more pictures of the wedding day?

As I said before, my biggest piece of advice is to make sure that you have fun during your wedding.
I spent a lot of time looking like this during our reception:

BUT I feel like it took a lot of work on my part to make sure I was that way. I think it’s because I really took a scalpel to our wedding and really tried to capture the essence of what we wanted it to be.

After spending a weekend full of work and mild depression (my Dawgs lost AGAIN, but I knew it was coming), I decided to do one of my favorite Sunday activities: catch up on Weddingbee! On the very first page I saw Miss Fro Yo’s post about Ruche.com. Despite better judgment, the shopaholic in me decided to click on the site and take a gander. That’s when I stumbled across what I thought would be the end to my junior bridesmaids’ dress search.
Um, how perfect would this dress have matched my bridesmaids?!?
I quickly added two dresses in my girls’ sizes to my shopping bag and was on my way to check out when I got…*gasp*…an error page!

“Make an elegant invitation statement without the fuss. Stylish invitation sets with matching envelopes, reception and response cards included.”
I am REALLY, excited about my final idea for giving our ballroom a makeover!
The inspiration came a few weeks ago during a trip to visit my parents in Florida. I always buy a magazine for a flight, and ever since the engagement, the bridal magazines always win my dollar! I opted for the latest Martha Stewart Weddings. It wasn’t until I arrived at my parents’ house that I flipped to stationer-extraordinaire Cherie Berry’s pretty, paper-inspired wedding. And what did I see?

Pretty, punchy paper!
I didn’t have a traditional proposal. I wasn’t surprised with a ring and Mr. Dachshund never went down on one knee. Really, our engagement began with the decision to finally start our fiance visa paperwork.
To be honest, I’m alright with that. In fact, because we did it that way, I was able to choose my own engagement ring. I love Mr. D with all of my heart and I’m sure he would have chosen a lovely ring, but I am quite particular when it comes to the jewelry that I wear. So, a few weeks after Mr. Doxie and I made it official, I chose my engagement ring online. It was shipped directly to me, and I had it for about a month before Mr. D saw it in person. It is absolutely my dream ring and it was well within our (very small) budget. It’s been on my finger for a little over two months now and I still can’t help but stare at it.
A few days ago I finally tried to take a few pictures of it that weren’t blurry and out of focus. Eventually I’d like to get a DSLR, but for now I’m stuck with a little Casio point-and-shoot. I think the pictures came out pretty decently, though!
When imagining my engagement ring, I always dreamed that it would have timeless, vintage details. The carving on the side of the ring was what won me over!

I’m pretty sure the day after the wedding, I wanted to email each and every one of our vendors and gush about how fabulous they were! True story. However, Mr. S urged me to hold off until after the honeymoon. While we were away, we stayed off of Facebook and made ourselves invisible on Google Chat. I did sneak in a little Weddingbee (shh…), but Mr. S sneaked in a few work emails, so I guess we’re even.
On our first night officially in town, we released the gushing emails onto our vendors - I think Mr. S was just as excited as I was to share lovely words with the individuals who helped make our day so special!

I shared a little while back about why we chose to hire a day of coordinator (DOC). I wanted to know that the little details were taken care of, and while I thought our DJ was a fabulous and great guy, I didn’t want to have to talk to him or anyone else about the timeline on that day. I was there to celebrate and have fun, darn it!

Hive, it is with great honor, excitement, and a tiny bit of disbelief that I introduce myself to you! Last night was a night like any other - we were making dinner with old Seinfeld reruns playing in the background, when I decided to check my email on my iPhone. You know, nonchalantly… it’s not like I was waiting for a response to my Weddingbee application or anything.
(Ha, yeah right! Every time I checked my email, I was hoping for a “1” icon next to that little white envelope on my phone. When it would be there, my stomach would clench up a little bit and I would hope that it was a response from the ‘bee. 9 times out of 10, it would be an-auto generated junk email offering 2% off at one of my favorite stores, and my stomach clenching would be for naught.)
Anyway, back to our story. So I picked up my phone, and there it was — that little envelope icon, taunting me with a bright red “1” in its top right corner. So, I went into my email, expecting the aforementioned spam. I started reading what the email was about… and who it was from… and, well, let’s just say there was squealing. And jumping up and down in a counter-clockwise direction (why counter-clockwise? Not sure. It felt right at the time). Our dogs started going nuts, the cat ran under the dining room table to take cover, and I started talking about 500 miles an hour to Mr. French Fry about what was going on.

Okay, so maybe not for everyone, but it’s pretty traditional in most Asian weddings (at least in my family) to have corsages and boutonnieres for all important extended family members - aunts, uncles, cousins even. And it’s always a nice gesture to have flowers for your wedding helpers: musicians, guestbook and gift attendants, ushers, your DOC, etc.
So, Mr. Ramen’s mom is one of 5 kids, and his dad is one of 4. My mom is one of 6, and my dad has (thank God!) only 1 brother. Since the majority of them are married, this means for aunts and uncles alone, we’d need to provide about 25 or so corsages and boutonnieres. And then another 15, at least, for our helpers. At $8 a pop for a measly single rose, our budget definitely couldn’t handle that! So, how can we fix this dilemma?
Miss Ramen: “Oh, I can TOTALLY make all of the boutonnieres and corsages. How hard could it be?”
And before you start to laugh in my face at my DIY naivety, it’s actually… not that hard!
So I started by attempting to make them out of fake florals since they could be made well in advance, and ended up with these (thankyouverymuch Michaels and Jo-Ann’s floral clearance sales!):
Miss Chick is selling a beautiful Marisa gown she bought at a Kleinfeld sample sale. The size 10 dress has 2 layers of silk organza with a lace overlay on top. It has been professionally cleaned and never altered. She’s asking $1100.

No, not for my hair, but for my eyelashes!! I knew that I was going to do some sort of fake eyelashes for the wedding because I love long lashes and mascara. My natural eyelashes are pretty long, but I always appreciate a little help. I learned about these semi-permanent lashes salons put on that last about 2-3 weeks. Look at some of the befores and afters:

To categorize the Old Navy $1 flip flop sale as one of the top ten craziest things I’ve ever done doesn’t make me sound like a Hip Chip. So let’s put it in the top 25 craziest things I’ve done, and certainly the number one of the craziest wedding things I’ve ever done. There. That certainly fits the bill.
Anyone who knows me knows better than to ask me to accompany them shopping. Outlets are out of the question (all those people! the shoving! the digging through racks!) and the very idea of the Running of the Brides fills me with impalpable dread. It’s not that I don’t like a bargain; nay, I love me a bargain! I rarely buy anything at full price! But my silly little constitution cannot handle the crowds, the lines, all those bodies packed into shops… I become stressed and cranky and my fight or flight mechanism kicks in, and soon I’m in the car and need to stop for an ice cream on the way home to placate myself.
My mom, the shopping maven, couldn’t be more disappointed.
Now that you know that I’m a shopping wimp, you can understand why the Old Navy flip flop sale (or, as I’ll refer to it herein, the Running of the Flip Flops) was totally uncharacteristic of me. But I’m a gal who always kicks off her heels the second cocktail hour is over, and dances barefoot all night long. Always.

I remember way back when Mr. Star and I were trying to figure out how to cut our guest list to a reasonable size — about a year ago now! — what a tough time we had figuring out exactly how many people we could invite and what the chances were that we would end up with the number of people attending that we were aiming for. We wanted between 80 and 90 guests to celebrate with us on the big day, but didn’t know what that translated to in terms of how many people we could invite!
I couldn’t find a whole lot of helpful online chatter on the subject at the time.

Our Save-the-Dates went out in the mail the week we bought our house. This was a huge relief, as we had been putting it off due to the venue uncertainties. Originally we had wanted to give people 8 months of notice since our date is around the Christmas holiday. The little beauts got out just a tad under 6 months out.
I hemmed and hawed about these bad boys. First, I was set on Bucknell Save-the-Dates. I wanted them to boast of the percentage of Bucknellians that marry of other Bucknellians, set against a picture of Rooke Chapel and embellished with mini blue and orange striped envelopes hiding library stamped dates. We couldn’t get the layout right though, and I wasn’t convincing very many people that my vision was going to materialize into the epitome of coolness. Second, I narrowed it down to 3 pre-made postcards or magnets. Third, the Lambster and I asked Mother Ewe which one she liked, and then we took the dive and ordered.
Behold!
Better late than never, right? Here goes my story!
How I found Weddingbee
This is a pretty interesting story, actually! Mrs. Apple Cider and my MOH/older sister work together! My sister sent me Mrs. Apple Cider’s blog with a note: “I work with her! She has the cutest ideas!” I was immediately obsessed with her blog and read every single entry retroactively. Then one day I read her ecstatic post on being accepted as a bee and I wondered what in the world she was talking about.
The rest is history!
How I became a Weddingbee blogger
Life is funny. A couple of months before I applied to be a wedding blogger, Mr. Chick and I had just gotten back from a trip to Italy. We went to Rome and Tuscany for about two weeks. When I got back, I had an intense Italy-lovin’ bug and I wanted to remember every second of the trip. It was the first trip that I really, really planned. Usually I loosely plan our trips (as in, I book hotels and look for 3 or 4 things to do while we are there). But for this trip, I planned every minute of it. I blame Google Docs. Anyway, I wanted to have a photo and text journal, and thought blogging was the perfect way to preserve my memories and to share with others. Here is the blog if you would like to see it. A couple of months later, I went home to help my parents move from New Jersey to Taiwan. In the process, I found my eighth and ninth grade journal. Hilarity ensued while reading it, and my sister insisted that I transcribe the journal, in blog form. I guess you can say I had/have blog fever!
Long story short, I started with a couple of binders and divider pages of inspirational photos for our wedding, then quickly realized I was using up a lot of ink and paper printing from the interwebs.
