Miss Snow's Picture
Miss Snow, Madison, WI/Asheville, NC Age and Occupation: 28, PhD student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Graphic Designer Engagement Date: August 5, 2009 Wedding Date: June 2010 Venue: Claxton Farm About Me: I am true Southern gal displaced in the beautiful and blustery midwest. A true theatre geek at heart, I love any kind of performance and spend most of my time researching old productions in dank library archives. When not in the library, I love music (punk rock, bluegrass, and everything in between), design in all forms, any reality TV show on Bravo (especially those that feature housewives or sharp knives), beer and wine from Oregon, and exploring the outdoors. My fiance and I are true best friends, and he inspires me every day. After a long and happy dating relationship, we’ve decided to tie the knot in the mountains of North Carolina, our home state. We’re planning a long-distance, largely-DIY, eco-conscious hip farm affair that celebrates family, friends, and love.
About Miss Snow

Down On the Farm (AKA the Venue)

November 2nd, 2009 @ 10:58 am by Miss Snow

After a lengthy search for just the right venue, we’ve decided to get married at Claxton Farm in Weaverville, NC. We currently live in Madison, WI, but we’re true Southerners (and so are our families), so a Midwestern wedding wouldn’t work for us.

We’re going with a “hip farm” theme, working with the gorgeous natural rustic beauty of the farm and barn, and our own minimalist design aesthetic. We hope we can make it work, but every time I Google our farm, I get so inspired by all the other weddings that have happened there…

Oh. My. Gosh. This wedding just took place at Claxton Farm. It took my breath away! So. exquisitely. beautiful. (See, it makes me type in hy.per.ven.ti.late style!)

The parasols! The school bus! The gorgeous paper goods. THE TABLES! Oh, man. MAJOR case of wedding envy. MAJOR!

Oh wow I can’t wait to see what you plan to do with it! I considered it since it’s so close (about an hour and a half away from me!) but alas, it was not meant to be. I shall live vicariously through your posts! :)

I’m kind of mad at myself for not checking out more barn locations, you get all the fun and beauty of a rustic wedding without the hastle and cost of renting a dang tent! I saw that wedding too and was head over heels, yours is going to be even better!!!

That is so, so beautiful. I’m hoping our barn venue works out, being in horse country and all but they’re also so, so beautiful!

Love those pictures! Also, is it me or is that a red, white and blue color scheme that somehow is completely not giving the USA! USA! USA! vibe (or “vive la france!” for that matter). So cool.

We’re getting married in a barn outside of Chapel Hill. So excited to see what you’ve got planned for your wedding! I admire that you’re taking on a wedding in the middle of your PhD! My fiance and I are both in grad school, far away from NC, and it makes it hard to plan!!

Thanks all! I love love love our venue.

@jmc: I know! We’re attempting a red/blue scheme too, so this wedding gave us hope that we won’t look too 4th of July.

@elfe515: Hooray for barn weddings! I don’t know about you, but I’ve found planning during PhD coursework a little more difficult than I anticipated (no trouble with the wedding side of things, but staying on track with my school work has been a little tough). Who knew wedding planning would be more exciting than 17th century theatre theory? Hah.

This is the venue that my future SIL is getting married at in July. It is so amazing. I will be keeping up with your post to help her with ideas and look forward to any vendor recommendations that you have to offer.

We had our own barn wedding in Michigan in June and then attended a friend’s September wedding (not this one) at Claxton Farms. It is a gorgeous, gorgeous venue with mountains ringing the entire area. With or without a DIY frenzy, you will have a fabulous wedding. The barn and scenery are so cool you almost don’t need to add anything except maybe some rustic flower arrangements. Of course I know how the DIY bug can get you …

I cannot believe this gorgeous location is gone now and that you had to find out about it here. I’m praying for you and all the brides-to-be who were supposed to be married here (especially ones for the next few weekends!). :(
