The Birth of Our Invitations

November 2nd, 2009 @ 5:54 pm by Mrs. Lamb

From the time they were conceived as an idea in my mind, until I gave them wings to fly across the country, creating these bad boys has been the project most resembling the child rearing process to me.

At first, I thought invitations were “nice”. Other people’s invitations were just lovely, but they seemed like a really big commitment. They were something that I always wanted, but didn’t feel ready to take the next step.

After some soul searching, I came to the realization that it was now or never to start trying. I explored the different options, trying to figure out what was right for us as a couple. I even borrowed one to get used the feeling of holding an invitation in my hands.

When our invitations arrived at my home, I lovingly tucked them into their box and thought of all the cute ways I could dress them up. I hand cut belly bands, experimented with wax seals, and hand cut envelope liners. I dressed them in their Sunday best, ready to face the world.

In one last act of motherly love, I kissed them each (and no, I didn’t die like Susan on Seinfeld) and set them up with some mail money.

Today was the day I drove them to their big world stage debut.

Mommy loves you!

Were you attached to your invitations? Or were you relieved when they finally left the house?

Finishing the invitations and dropping them off at the post office was the biggest relief for me and really gave me that “This is really happening, we’re getting married” feeling. Very exciting! Although, it was even more exciting to start getting RSVPs back in the mail two days later.

Invites are the bane of my wedding planning! I think I’ll be more than happy when that particular thing is checked off my list.

I was relieved to finish them, but actually kind of sad and nervous to mail them!

I’m still on STD’s… they’ve been sitting in my family room mocking me… screaming at me to address them and put them in the mail. I have a feeling my invites are going to be a labor of love, and I’m sure I’ll be super attached to them.

Looking back, our invites set the tone for all of the decor- no wonder I spent so long making them perfect! I worked with a local graphic designer and I loved them. They were about a week late on delivery, but worth the wait.

I have changed my mind about fifty million times while designing our invites, so as much as I love them… I think I will be so excited for people to see them and can’t wait to hear what people think of them!

i’m glad we handed most (like 80%) of ours out in person. it was always like, *deep breath* “okaaaay, here goes!” at the mail box, and hoping so hard they wouldn’t get lost!!

Such an exciting step! We haven’t even started assembling our invitations (doing mockups right now) but I know what you mean — it’s a lot of work!
