The Honeymoon!

November 2nd, 2009 @ 5:27 pm by Miss Frozen Yogurt

So guess who booked their honeymoon? The Fro Yos!

Originally we were going to go to Puerto Rico. I was excited about PR, but we couldn’t find a place within our budget that we really loved. So the search continued, only now with a wider range of beach locations. We talked about it for a while, and we decided on Mexico! I love that we are going to be on a plane for a pretty short time, and will still get to enjoy a beautiful beach.

So where in Mexico will we go? The Rivera Maya! There are amazing coral reefs, beaches and luxury hotels. We picked the Dreams Resort and Spa Hotel.

Oh, and how did we book this? We used bookit, which is my new favorite travel website. I got by far the best deals by using them.

I’m so excited!! I’ve spent a lot of time researching things to do and places to go and will start to brush up on my Spanish.

Have you ever been to Cancun/Riviera Maya? What are some things you love to do around there?

My husband and I went to Cozumel and to the Riviera Maya for our honeymoon. It was like paradise. Good choice!

For architectural stuff, we loved Chichen-Itza and Coba even more than the ever-lovely and easily-accessible Tulum. You can’t go wrong with any of them.

If you can go swimming in a cenote, do it. They are simply amazing.

Snorkeling is fantastic at Akumel. You have to buy their biodegradable sunscreen, and while it’s expensive, DO IT. I got fried and still bear the marks from wearing a coverup t-shirt instead of the sunscreen.

Xian-Kaan is a nature reserve just south of Tulum that has an area you can go canoeing and bird-watching. There are amazing shells since it’s a nature reserve, and the beach is not overrun with people like in other areas.

La Zebra beach club is a really great place to spend the afternoon if you’re in Tulum.

Hammered silver is one of the local specialties. Make sure you shop around and bargain, though. I bargained for this amazing cuff bracelet that I lost in O’Hare upon our return. Sad.

My FILs went to a resort on the Riviera Maya for their 25th anniversary and LOVED it. They pretty much just drank and partied the entire time (they’re really cool in-laws, I’m so lucky.) I’m sure you’ll have an amazing time :)

I think we are going to Riviera Maya as well! In June, of course… we picked Mexico because we are fairly active people and wanted a good mix of “doing things” and “not doing things”. : )

your resort looks amazing- i just emailed our travel agent to look in to it!

We just returned last week from our honeymoon to the Riviera Maya. We stayed at Secrets Maroma Beach and absolutely loved it! It’s very easy to get used to a life in which your most difficult decision is whether to go to the beach or to lounge by the pool all day. And knowing that whichever one you picked, there’d be somebody that came by frequently offering to get you another fruity rum concoction.

While we were there we booked an excursion to Isla Mujueres to play with dolphins and go snorkeling. It was a fabulous all-day, all-inclusive trip and we had such a great time. They had zip lines there that went over the gorgeous turquoise water, which I didn’t do because the first leg of the zip line series involved going over trees and dry land, and I seem to have this irrational fear of heights that prevents me from doing cool stuff like that. PM me if you’d like some more info (pricing, pics, etc.).

Whatever you decide to do (or not do) while you’re there, I’m sure you’ll have a fabulous time. You’d have to try hard to NOT enjoy yourselves when you’re surrounded by that much gorgeousness. :)

We went to the Riviera Maya area in June and really enjoyed it. We were in a very small villia just down from the Dreams. I would agree with mariavvisa on Coba & the cenotes.

We also did an ATV tour which included a bat cave and time for swimming in a cenote, it was dusty but we had alot of fun. The only thing we weren’t really happy with was the catamaran excursion. It ended up being more of a party boat experience with really loud club music while sailing and watered down mixed drinks, which isn’t really our thing but we did enjoy the lunch they grilled on-board and the snorkeling…even if it was right in front of our villa :)

You can’t beat the entire area for some beautiful scenery and relaxation. You’ll have a wonderful time!

We stayed at Secrets Capri, which is the sister site of Dreams in the Riveria Maya area. It was great - we loved it and want to go back. You’ll have a great time! A piece of advice - if you go swimming with the dolphins, Wet & Wild in Cancun is great - but only do a half day trip, which is long enough to swim with the dolphins and get out of there. The water park isn’t that great, but the dolphin area was!

Everything and anything you could want! There are a bunch of awesome places you can go. PM if you’d like to know a few places that are really interesting i.e.,
- underground cave restaurant
- underground rivers w/ stalactites
- ziplining through the jungle
- giant freshwater sinkholes w/ flourescent water
- wild and crazy atv’ing through the jungle
- the best shrimp tacos you’ll ever have in your life!

Miss Pinot Grigio mentioned Xcaret. I really liked going there. It’s an ecological park. There is a lot to do. My favorite was swimming with dolphins. Unbelievable! They have a website that you can check out. I would recommend it.

Congratulations for your honeymoon! good choice!
You can’t miss Xcaret or Xel-Ha when you’re going to Riviera Maya or Cancun. They are the best ecoparks in the area, and the most beautiful I’ve ever seen.

Some people are talking about swimming with dolphins, I recommend Xel-Ha for a fullday tour, and make the dolphintrek (diving with dolphins with a seatrek suit), its an amazing experience to watch and touch dolphins while you’re walking undwewater. Xcaret its nice too, it has many activities besides the swiming with dolphins. I’ve just taken the Xel-Ha one, but my husband took it at Xcaret and he loved it.

There are other options for the activity but I like those places the most.

xoxo
Helen.

I went there a couple summers ago. First vacation with my bf. It was lovely. I would definitely spend the extra money to go on the excursions. We went on a small guided tour of 10 people where we got to climb pyramids, swim in cenotes, soar across a zipline, and propel down a rock wall. The tour even ended with a shot of tequila!! It. was. fantastic.

Oh, we went to Xel-Ha, too. I like to describe it almost like a natural, Mexican “Water Country Water Park.” It was fun, but not as great as the guided tour.
