Mrs. Lightning's Picture
Mrs. Lightning, Cape Town Age and Occupation: 22, Journalist and Graphic Designer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 23, Computer Scientist Engagement Date: December 27, 2008 Wedding Date: September 2009 Venue: Hout Bay Manor About Me: I'm a young American living abroad in the beautiful city of Cape Town with a wonderful South African fiance and our crazy kitty Zeus. We're young, driven and madly in love. Together we're pursuing our wildest dreams including our biggest undertaking yet, a vintage retrospective wedding filled to the brim with DIY madness. I have an unnatural attraction to cake, a passion for blogging and a love of good design. While I might be an overly obsessive creative with too many ideas and nowhere to put them, Mr Lightning is my biggest fan and I can't wait to make my true love mine.
About Mrs. Lightning

Hello hive! I’m so sorry for my absence but with the wedding behind me I’ve been hard at work organising our chaotic little apartment after work and so the blogging has been somewhat neglected. But I’m back to finish my last recaps as well as a few projects I didn’t get to share before the big day.

My last post left off at the start of the Lightning ceremony. Originally Mr Lightning and I had tried to forgo any type of spiritual ceremony in favor of something more to the point (neither of us are religious). But after meeting our wonderful officiant we realized that we would need to go with the “spiritual flow”. Admittedly the ceremony was A LOT more religious than I would have liked and incredibly long (we went way over the half an hour originally planned) but it was also heartfelt and touched us and many of our guests.

Our officiant asked us to write private letters about why we chose to get married and he shared parts of our letters during the ceremony. In this picture he recounted the night we first met and how Mr Lightning and his fellow Computer Science friends behaved so awkwardly around me and my friend (apparently women don’t attend these sort of parties very often ;)). Mr Lightning had been so shy throughout our first few meetings that it was a full year before anything romantic emerged between us (prompted by my determination to get to know him whether he liked it or not!).

(One of my maids of honor reading a beautiful passage about love from Captain Corelli’s Mandolin - this was cause for one of only two times I cried during the wedding. It is a beautiful passage that will forever stay with me in my heart and it meant the world coming from one of my closest friends.)

(The best man holding the rings as they were blessed - the heart ring box is something I dug out of a cupboard the week of the wedding, and it photographed beautifully.)

(the ring exchange)

(the kiss)

(And finally, the Lightnings make it legal!)

Next up, family and friends toast us as newlyweds and the party begins.

Gorgeous photos! I’m using that passage from Captain Corelli’s Mandolin too - I knew the minute I read it I would use it when I got married and it was only when I got engaged I found out I wasn’t the only one who felt the same way :)

So pretty! You just look fantastic and definitely in love! I love the little details - like the letters incorporated into the ceremony and the cupboard ring box. They’re fun!
