Mrs. Dachshund, Fresno, CA Age and Occupation: 24, Legal Office Assistant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Computer Technician Engagement Date: April 18, 2009 Wedding Date: May 2010 Venue: Victorian Gardens of Two Sisters About Me: I’m a 24-year-old Californian bride-to-be who found love in the most unlikely of places - an online video game! I’m a farmer’s daughter living in rural Central California, but will always have a special place in my heart for the city. My future husband is a 27-year-old extraordinarily tall, exceptionally cute, and undoubtedly Canadian boy who was able to sweep me off my feet and take me for his bride. I love color, folksy songs that make me smile, interior design, kettle corn, my one-year-old puppy, Juno, and my fiance, of course! We’re planning a DIY garden wedding with a laundry-list of projects, all while dealing with the bureaucracy that is American Immigration!

We’re Legal!

November 3rd, 2009 @ 6:39 pm by Mrs. Dachshund

Hey guys! I suppose another apology is in order; I’ve been the worst blogger lately, and for that I feel terrible! But things have finally settled down, and I don’t foresee any more extended absences in the near future.

Anyway, a lot has happened since you’ve seen me last. Mr. Doxie is in California for good, thank goodness, and we got married!

Well, technically anyway.

There was a slight change in plans, though: Our legal ceremony wasn’t quite the affair that we had planned. So that we could include Mr. Doxie’s parents, who would only be here for the weekend before Halloween, we decided to do a courthouse ceremony. Though it wasn’t at all what we had planned, I’m glad we decided to do it that way. Our legal ceremony was intimate and special shared only with our parents.

Asian Inspiration: Makeup

November 3rd, 2009 @ 6:14 pm by Mrs. Parfait

For the wedding, I’m not exactly branching out in the makeup department. I’ve never tried any bold looks, with the exception of the extreme makeovers my friends and I would give each other as kids. I’m planning to stick with what I know and go for subtlety. For soft, natural makeup ideas, I turned to my favorite Korean actress!

Mrs. Lamb, Norfolk Age and Occupation: 25, Homeland Security Consultant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Graduate Student Engagement Date: January 2009 Wedding Date: January 2010 Venue: Trinity Presbyterian Church/Harrison Opera House About Me: I’m a Homeland Security Consultant with a tendency towards pulling office pranks, taking lunch breaks, and drinking Wawa shakes. I’m also an English major with a serious obsession with alliteration and rhymes. While I’m not keeping America safe, I’m training for half marathons and the Escape from Alcatraz swim. Or moving for the third time this year. Or baking. Or wedding crafting. Or crying about wedding planning. All the while, I’m getting myself into Lucille Ball-esque scrapes and making Jim Carey-esque faces. Our big fat Czech/Baptist/Jewish/Italian wedding is a combination of vintage eclectic, DIY, and little spoonful of sugar from our Event Coordinator. It’s going to be a Norfolk flavored wedding with the verve of an only-daughter-blow-out bash!

Lamba-ramma-lux-tux

November 3rd, 2009 @ 5:40 pm by Mrs. Lamb

Do you know how sometimes, you’re at a ball game, and you really enjoy ball games, but at this ball game someone who doesn’t really like ball games is there? And that person spreads his misery so that you can’t enjoy it either? Or do you know how sometimes, you’re out shopping for something important to you, but someone who doesn’t care as much about that something important is there, too? And that person really just wants a Mrs. Fields cookie and to go home? And then you don’t end up buying what you wanted?

Lambster and I were living those scenarios at the MW Tuxedo Rentals at the Southpoint Mall the other week. Guess which lamb was in which role.

Anytux, the outing starting out poorly because, apparently, there are not one, but TWO MW Tux shops at the mall. I had made an appointment at one of them, but did not know which one, so we walked to the closest one, which happened to be the one where we did not have an appointment.

Since the Lambster didn’t really know what he wanted, I started in with my list of three looks that I wanted to see in person.

Ketubah Inspiration

November 3rd, 2009 @ 4:40 pm by Mrs. Trail Mix

After I saw a beautiful Ketubah (Jewish marriage contract) posted by a reader on the boards, I clicked on the website to see who the artist was. Her name is Amy Kagin and her Ketubahs are works of art. I browsed through a bunch and while I loved them all, I managed to pick out a few that I felt particularly excited about. The first two reflect a more modern style of Judaica but the movement and colors are so pretty!

Lace - A Love Unrequited

November 3rd, 2009 @ 4:17 pm by Mrs. Hamster

When I first started my gown search, I did as any bride-to-be would – decimated my wedding magazines, ripping out pictures of any and every gown that I was even mildly interested in. Seven magazines, 50 pictures and one ginormous black-and-white cookie later, I evaluated my pics and noticed a few common themes:

1. Fluffly
I know. That is not a word. But Fluffly is how I best describe “Look 1” of my first group of pictures – ruffles fluttering in the wind, light fabrics, perhaps a dramatic look back at the groom (or someone else, apparently!). You know, Fluffly.

I went to college in Boston and have a special place in my heart for the Northeast. I love reading, shopping, wine, reuniting with college friends that are scattered across the country, reality TV, trying out new recipes, and attempting all the DIY projects that come along with wedding planning. I'm a "bleeding heart, save the world type" and thankfully my job allows me to work on legislation and policy to help out those in need. I met Mr. Frozen Yogurt in a bar, though he doesn't even drink! And now we are planning a modern yet vintage wedding in Dallas while dealing with the trials and tribulations of first time homeownership.

Out of Town Guests

November 3rd, 2009 @ 3:29 pm by Mrs. Frozen Yogurt

So I totally ”borrowed” this idea from Cowboy Boot and Apple Cider. Their little bags were just too adorable, I wanted some of my very own. Plus, I don’t own a Gocco, and I certainly don’t know how to print on bags, so this out of town guest bag was born.

During this wedding planning process I’ve learned that stamps are my best friends. I don’t own a printer, and I don’t know how to design or craft really, but I can stamp with the best of them. My latest project turned out like this:

But after seeing the hefty price tags, I quickly convinced myself that they were not for me. Months later, I find myself referring to them and drooling over their beautiful shoes again! So, I’ve decided even if I can’t afford them, I sure can still blog about them!

Here are my three faves:

Mrs. Meatball's Picture
Mrs. Meatball, Hollywood Age and Occupation: 30, Actor/Writer/Office Maven Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Actor/Writer Engagement Date: October 7, 2007 Wedding Date: May, 2009 Blogging Since: September 16, 2008 Venue: Private Garden/The Bungalow Club About Me: I love melty cheese and diet coke almost as much as I love my man. I'm from Chicago, he's from NYC, and we both miss public transit and great pizza. We have an adorable muppet dog called Paco. I'm part hippie with a healthy dash of hip hop superstar, have excessive empathy for animals, and have not one, but two bionic eyes (long story). We're broke and it ain't no joke. It can't stop us from planning the bold and whimsical wedding of our dreams, but we've had to get pretty creative to make it work, yo!
About Mrs. Meatball

Mr. M and I share our lives with a third partner, from whom we’re trying to break free. Procrastination. It is one of our great faults as a couple. It makes us late to almost every date (a rude and embarrassing habit, I know), it tempts us to create distraction in our lives. Don’t get me wrong, we always get things done on time, but always under the gun. As much as we try to fight it and cure it, it will always be in our family nature. So, leave it to us to be engaged for twenty months, and still be woefully under-prepared come May.

Soooooo, the last two weeks preceding our wedding were especially high-octane, go go go, last minute errand mayhem, combined with a volatile cocktail of emotions, family, and anticipation. It was like life was in fast forward! Seemingly developed as an evolutionary adaptation to my procrastinatory leanings, I have a keen ability to become intensely focused on the goal in these types of situations (which was how I kept from melting down constantly). But there were some very unexpected side effects of all that pressure, so listen close, my bridal biddies!

1. Weight loss. No secret I was down to drop a few extra pounds before strutting it in such a skin-tastic dress, but after 30+ years of being an emotional eater, I was shocked to find myself not only without appetite, but without even noticing. Normally I’m fantasizing about my next meal as I eat my current, but food was the farthest thing from my mind that week, and the pictures are the proof in the pudding. I would just forget to eat for hours! Thankfully, the dress still fit; however, it did end up being 2 inches too long because of the weight loss! More on this later.

Point? Eat, my little chickens!

I love travel, impromptu napping, grilled cheese sandwiches, my iPhone, singing with reckless abandon in my car, and Mr. French Fries.

Stationary on the Stationery.

November 3rd, 2009 @ 2:08 pm by Mrs. French Fries

I’ve been debating for a while now what types of invitations to fashion for our wedding. I say “fashion” because I am indeed going to be designing and crafting them myself. Our invitation budget is meager at best, and while there are amazing stationers out there, letterpress for us will only be a dream. (And, surprisingly, I’m okay with that!)

I have folders upon folders of inspiration images and wording samples that I love, but I haven’t been able to commit to one design just yet. You see, I want something that is a bit off-beat, but not too kitschy. I want something beautiful and interesting to look at, yet something easy to produce (remember, I’m DIYing here). I do not have access to the following: a letterpress, a Gocco, a Yudu or a Cricut. I do have access to: a computer, a color printer, and… that’s about it. I’m going to be using a 40% off coupon at Michaels in the near future for a paper-cutter. Oh, and of course, I have Weddingbee at my disposal.

Right now, I’m thinking that I’m going to shamelessly steal borrow the genius idea that Mrs. Green Tea had to fit her maid of honor’s invites on a single sheet of paper. (She’s obviously a goddess at wedding planning and shower planning. Gah, if only I was that talented.) So, a single sheet of paper, and that includes our invite, reply card, and directions card. I think we can do it! Also, I love the string and name circles that she attached to her MOH’s invites. Too cute!

I'm fashion and beauty obsessed, and have recently discovered my inner domestic diva extraordinaire. I'm a wannabe chef, decorating addict, and trying desperately to be as crafty as possible---albeit only with a glue gun. I'm hopelessly in love with my fiance, and all things sparkly and feathery. Despite the glittery exterior, I'm a total hippie on the inside. When I'm not making up pretty faces, I love doing what I can to help people, animals, and the environment. Someday the FI and I will change the world, but first we're tackling our modern-vintage-Marie-Antoinette-meets-Alice-in-Wonderland inspired wedding. I just can't wait to be Mrs. Rainbow!

Play That Funky Music, Rainbow

November 3rd, 2009 @ 1:44 pm by Mrs. Rainbow

I do not like classical music; it’s just not me. I don’t want to walk down the aisle to Canon in D, nor do I want to hear a peep of Ave Maria. Mr. Rainbow, on the other hand, really enjoys him some classical music. He even wanted to be a musical conductor as a child—you know, the guy in the tux waving sticks at the front of the orchestra? Yup, that guy.

Luckily for me, however, despite Mr. R’s affinity to classical music, he’s pretty lax when it comes to picking the wedding music. He thinks I have good taste in music (aside from some lingering Spice Girls tunes on my iPod) so I’ve pretty much been given full reign, less a few songs on his “must play” list, which, might I add, happens to contain a song from the Ghostbusters soundtrack. Lord, I love that man, but don’t even ask.

That said, now that we’re not having a wedding party, I’m wondering if one song (just the bride’s processional) will be sufficient. I mean, there’s no point in having a processional song if you don’t have a wedding party to walk during the processional, right? Anyway, without further ado, I present to you the very non-traditional Rainbow Wedding Playlist!

How are you deciding where you spend the holidays? Was it a big issue between you and your FI? How did you come to a decision?

Relationship Series: The Holidays : wedding features relationship series Quiche Mrs. Quiche - This is a HUGE deal for me. I do not like to spend Christmas anywhere (including our own home!) except at my mom’s house, which I have done every single year for the past 29 years. I am sure it is something I’ll have to get over at some point, especially with kids, but I still can’t fathom it. We don’t tend to go to Ohio for Easter or Thanksgiving, only occasionally (like this year - YAY!).

All of his family is here in Chicago & we can see them anytime. This is not the case with my family, so it makes sense to spend the big holidays with my family, right? Right??

This Christmas will be the first test. We still haven’t decided what to do.

I'd wear anything at Anthropologie and could spend all day on Etsy. I love to travel but shouldn't because I always get myself into unbelievable situations!
About Mrs. Joey

So after the after party, Mr. Joey and I enjoyed a lovely Sunday with our families, spent Monday packing and opening presents, and on Tuesday jumped on a plane to Australia.

I was a little worried Mr. Joey wouldn’t make it. My flights for works average about 22 hours one-way, so Australia wasn’t anything I couldn’t handle. He thinks trips to see his parents in South Carolina are too long.

Thankfully he survived and even though he wasn’t the happiest camper, the flying was totally worth it.

I’m sorry that I don’t have too many pictures to share from our trip. They were lost when my computer died. I did manage to salvage some, though.

We started our trip in Sydney. We stayed at the beautiful Sofitel Hotel (thanks Priceline!) downtown, just minutes away from the Opera House and Harbour.
