Lace - A Love Unrequited

November 3rd, 2009 @ 4:17 pm by Mrs. Hamster

When I first started my gown search, I did as any bride-to-be would – decimated my wedding magazines, ripping out pictures of any and every gown that I was even mildly interested in. Seven magazines, 50 pictures and one ginormous black-and-white cookie later, I evaluated my pics and noticed a few common themes:

1. Fluffly
I know. That is not a word. But Fluffly is how I best describe “Look 1” of my first group of pictures – ruffles fluttering in the wind, light fabrics, perhaps a dramatic look back at the groom (or someone else, apparently!). You know, Fluffly.

2. Lots o’ lace
I surprised myself with the preponderance of lace in my selections. I’m generally not a lacy, frilly type of gal. But there you had it – if it had lace, it was ripped out of my magazines.

3. Romantical
I know – that’s also not a word. Isn’t it so much more fun to say than “romantic,” though? This theme went hand-in-hand with the previous too. Where there were Fluffles and Lots o’ lace, there was Romantical.

Or maybe I just liked the look-over-your-shoulder look. I don’t know.

Armed with these themes and my pictures in my hot little hands, I made my first dress appointments. The results were, to put it mildly, less than stellar. To preserve the dignity of these poor dresses, I won’t post full pics here, but I think my reactions say it all:

1. Fluffly

2. Lots o’ lace

3. Romantical

And to prove that I’m capable of making happy faces, please see Exhibit A below – my expression when holding a White Castle milkshake and a Crave Case.

My goal? To find a gown that would yield the CCF (Crave Case Face).

And the search continued…

Did you wind up with a completely different gown from what you originally pictured?

Completely different. I wanted lots of lace too, so I thought ;) I love your inspiration pics, and all this talk of White Castle is making me hungry.

Your faces are too funny!! I especially like the very pensive “lots o’ lace” face. I’m still searching for dresses and initially pulled ALL full skirted pictures to find that I like them…not so much! I’m hoping my next dress appointment will prove to be more fruitful :)

I loved that first Rivini gown photo too - it was on my “inspiration collage” when I went dress shopping :) Can’t wait to see what you ended up getting!

I just started dress browsing too and my criteria so far includes romantical, lacy and fluffy TOO! I’m curious how it will go when trying these on…are you completely put off some of these styles given your findings so far?

I must be living under a rock, but I’ve never heard of a “crave case”! It must be amazing, though, judging by the smile on your face. :) Can’t wait to see what you ended up with!

Aww, Hamster, you’ll find it! My chosen dress was far different than my inspiration dresses. It was actually funny how wrong I got it. But I eventually figured it out!

OK, first of all, fluffly is TOTALLY a word. :)
Second, your faces crack me up.
Third, what the hell is in that crave case? And are you going to eat it all by yourself?

@krissycake: It might be a good thing you’ve never had White Castle. It’s oh so bad for you but oh so good.

@MexiPieLove: I still love these styles, I just looked ridiculous in them! Hope they work out for you; keep us posted!

@Miss French Fries: @Mrs. Mouse: A crave case holds 30 sliders - gross, I know. But yummy! I didn’t eat it by myself - I shared with Mr. Hammy and one of our friends. We were on our way to Harold and Kumar II and wanted to make it a “theme night.” I know that’s just a weak excuse for a crave case!

Yes and no. It has the elements that I was looking for…. but I thought I would have chosen less of a mermaid cut. Oh well! btw - I use romantical ALL the time! Making up your own words is the best! I can’t wait to see what you ended up choosing!

Good luck in your search!

I was surprised by a lot of the dresses I tried on and liked, but ultimately wound up with EXACTLY what I had envisioned for myself.

lol what a cute post!! Good luck finding “the” dress!

We don’t have White Castle here… what exactly is in a crave case?? 1000 tiny burgers? That box is bigger than you! :)
