I'm planning a rustic, country-chic wedding in my hometown in upstate New York and it's going to be a Party with a capital P. E-Pics: A Worthy Decision

November 3rd, 2009 @ 11:58 am by Mrs. Trail Mix

I originally thought getting engagement pictures taken was a waste of time and money. But after seeing tons of beautiful, creative photo shoots on sites like the good ol’ ‘bee and Snippet and Ink, I decided that maybe it would be a fun thing to do. After all, we’re only engaged once, and why not take some time to document this point in our lives?

Side note: Guys are silly and clueless about weddings. When we told a male friend of ours we were getting engagement pictures taken, his response was “Wait, what? You’re getting engaged tomorrow? Aren’t you already engaged?” HA! Boys…

Anyways, once we decided we were going to have them done, the next question was: where? At first I thought that New York City, where we live and love, would be perfect, but we would have had to hire a separate photographer just for this session and it would’ve gotten pricey.

Our wedding photographer is based out of Boston but we weren’t planning a trip there anytime soon, so we weren’t going to be able to take advantage of our photographer’s e-pic session that is included in our package.

Then finally the light bulb went off in my head!

Ms Potato Chips's Picture
Ms. Potato Chips, Boston/Narragansett RI Age and Occupation: 29, PhD Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Personal Trainer/Business Owner/Physical Therapy Assistant Engagement Date: January 1, 2009 Wedding Date: June 2010 Venue: The Narragansett Towers About Me: A semi-professional bookworm, if I could be a literary character I’d be a cross between Jo March and Jane Eyre, only better accessorized and much lazier. My hobbies include sleeping in, seasonal brews, running, Trader Joe’s, and watching Unwrapped and Good Eats with Mr. Potato Chips. I harbor an irrational fear of tulle, crafts, things that are fussy, and overuse of the phrase "Your Special Day". After a year or seven together, down the aisle we go, slouching toward adulthood and planning a Rhodie party with equal parts whimsy, cheer, and pizza.
About Ms Potato Chips

How do you dress a Potato Head? Beats me!

Potato Head is starting to think about his wedding day ensemble. Here are the things working against him:

  1. Potato Head doesn’t want a traditional tux.
  2. Potato Head wants something more formal than a khaki-blazer combo (which was the first thing I suggested).
  3. Potato Head wants to rock him some suspenders.
  4. Potato Head is a fair-skinned ginger and is convinced he doesn’t look good in black.
  5. Potato Head is color-blind.

Egads. This should be a good time. When I came across Jessica Claire’s gorgeous wedding, I knew I’d found a winning combo. Suspenders? Yes! Old-school style and spiff? Yes indeedy!

Mrs. Mouse's Picture
Mrs. Mouse, Austin Age and Occupation: 25, Weddingbee Editor/Attorney Fiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Civil Engineer Engagement Date: December 19, 2007 Wedding Date: September 2009 Venue: Barr Mansion About Me: I just graduated from law school and will be taking the bar, getting married, going on a honeymoon with my guy, and then trying to figure out what I'm going to do with the rest of my life. I was born and raised in a small East Texas town, but I'm no country girl! I'm obsessed with British accents, fantasy (including Harry Potter, of course), and classic rock. My fiance and I consider ourselves both music and beer snobs--but every once in awhile we love to hear a crappy band and drink a cheap brew or two. We're planning an eco-friendly, casual, English garden affair for the end of summer, and we can't wait for it to get here!

Mice in Europe: Santorini

November 3rd, 2009 @ 10:33 am by Mrs. Mouse

Our first stop in Greece was Santorini. Santorini is a small, circular archipelago of volcanic islands located in the southern Aegean Sea, about 120 miles southeast from Greece’s mainland. The main island is called Thira, and the most beautiful part of the island, where the main thrust of restaurants and hotels is located, is called Oia. We thought it was really cool that Santorini is basically what remains of a larger island after a massive volcanic explosion that took place 3,600 years ago. Now the city of Thira looks out into a water-filled caldera, which makes for some mind-boggling photographs.

Here we are on our first full day in Oia. Believe it or not, this photo was taken from the cafe where we had breakfast. The views don’t really get much better than this, people.

I couldn't live without Pantone markers, fountain soda (3/4 diet, ¼ regular Coke), run-on sentences, or ridiculously oversized sunglasses. I will try to DIY almost anything and am just OCD enough to make most of it work. I am truly excited about having all my family and friends together, becoming Mrs. Gloss, and having amazing photos to prove it!

Nearly Nautical Nuptials : Anchors Away! : wedding pictures pro pics recap Onboat 023 onboat_023

With our stealth operation to get on to the boat unseen complete, we went to the upper deck and hung out in the captain’s cabin until the remainder of the guests arrived. Luckily, we were also able to hang out outside in a few areas where we wouldn’t be seen because it was rather roasty toasty and my full-on bridal ‘glow’ was actually sweat.

Mrs. Chick's Picture
Mrs. Chick, Houston Age and Occupation: 28, Rights and Reproduction Manager Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Computer Programmer Engagement Date: November 15, 2008 Wedding Date: April 2010 Venue: A farm outside of Houston About Me: Mr. Chick and I met almost ten years ago at Baker Blues, a college jazz party. He was attracted to my intensity, and I was mesmerized by his trivia pursuit skills and his dorm furniture adorned with his initials. We've grown more sophisticated through the years, with our love of wine, owning a house together, and parenthood (of a cat), but we have not lost our silliness or childish sense of humor!

This is Why I Love Mr. Chick

November 3rd, 2009 @ 8:29 am by Mrs. Chick

He is up for anything, including wearing a leotard and performing Beyonce’s All the Single Ladies, playing on the SNL skit with Justin Timberlake!

This post doesn’t have much to do with our actual wedding, but I wanted to include it because it’s so representative of our relationship! We love doing silly things and making fools out of ourselves in front of other people. Don’t get any ideas, we are not doing this at our wedding (yes, Rock the Reception ruined it for me!) but for Halloween, yes!

Our friend Melissa (same Melissa as the awesome friend whose parents are letting us get married at their property!) had the brilliant idea of doing a group costume of Beyonce’s All the Single Ladies (Put a Ring on it). She ended up wearing another costume, but me, Mr. Chick, BM Lulu, and our friends Alex and Matt decided to go for it!

Here we are rehearsing the dance:
