After we had all calmed down, my super talented SIL and her man Adam got up. Theirs was not a speech, however––it was a song that they had written for us, especially for our wedding day.

Sorry the video is dark but you’ll get an idea for how heartachingly gorgeous the tune is:
I Choose You from Mrs Sea Breeze on Vimeo.
The song tells the story of our courtship: how we met in an airplane at 30,000 feet, how Mr Breezy drove 300 miles from Montreal to Toronto during a massive snow storm to surprise me on Christmas Eve early in our relationship, and how we traveled 3,000 miles across the country to make our new home together in Vancouver.
As you can see, we were incredibly touched.

I still tear up every time I hear it!

Last but certainly not least, our parents got up to say a few words. Mr Breezy’s parents went first (note Mom Breezy’s wedding monogram tattoo… now that’s love and dedication!) and did an awesome job of thanking everyone for traveling so far to not only be with us on the wedding day but to spend a week together. I am so honored to be a part of their amazing family.

My parents followed suit. They were so happy to have our two families join together and to welcome Mr Breezy as a son! I can’t quite remember but I think they also may have said something about wishing they had more kids so they could do more destination weddings! It was the first time they’d traveled to the Caribbean and I dare say they had the time of their lives.

Finally… finally… it was our turn. We had so much we wanted to say and yet so little time to say it – literally!
Because our dinner ran later than planned, we didn’t get to the disco where we were doing all these speeches until about 10PM, and we were only able to book it for our private party until 11PM!!
No word of a lie, a few minutes to 11, other resort guests started banging on the doors. Sheesh people, relax. It’s our WEDDING DAY, could ya give us ten minutes?

As a result, our speech was short and sweet. I think Mr Breezy threw something in there about me being “a lovely bride yadda yadda”, but from this photo, all I can confirm is that he said something funny. Which sounds about right.

With little time to spare, we had our MC cue up our first song: Someone Like You by Van Morrison.

Aw. Does it look like we’re gazing adoringly into each other’s eyes? That’s nice… ’cause we’re not. Actually, we’re whispering about how to deal with the people banging on the doors outside!
We didn’t think we’d have time to finish our entire first song and do the song we had planned for our first dances with our parents too (which was supposed to be Make You Feel My Love by Adele) so we quickly made a snap decision to break and grab our parents to finish off our song with.
Except wait a second…

… Mr Breezy grabbed his mom but in my spastic confusion, instead of grabbing my dad, I grabbed Mr Breezy’s dad! Ha ha.
We danced for a bit and then wondered, how are we going to fix this now? Hey Mr Breezy, one… two… three… SWITCH AGAIN!

Mr Breezy couldn’t just stand there while I danced with my dad so he did the only logical thing… grabbed my mom.

I’m telling you, it was like the world’s weirdest game of musical partners. But in the end it turned out to be very indicative of how much we love our parents – ALL our parents.
The dance party had officially started.
We even got in one or two songs from our dance playlist which we had oh-so-carefully-put-together-over- hours-and-hours-of-torturous-song-selection before our private party wasn’t so private anymore. (Yeah, ditching that song list was a bit painful, I’ll admit.)

Once again, that was the thing about our destination wedding – sometimes things didn’t go according to plan and we had to roll with the punches. But you know what? Sure, some random strangers joined our dance party, but still had a blast and boogied ’til we could boogie no more.
Thanks to Photophil Steingard and Michael Steingard for keeping their cool and not missing a beat while we performed the world’s strangest first dance.
