Miss Snow's Picture
Miss Snow, Madison, WI/Asheville, NC Age and Occupation: 28, PhD student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Graphic Designer Engagement Date: August 5, 2009 Wedding Date: June 2010 Venue: Claxton Farm About Me: I am true Southern gal displaced in the beautiful and blustery midwest. A true theatre geek at heart, I love any kind of performance and spend most of my time researching old productions in dank library archives. When not in the library, I love music (punk rock, bluegrass, and everything in between), design in all forms, any reality TV show on Bravo (especially those that feature housewives or sharp knives), beer and wine from Oregon, and exploring the outdoors. My fiance and I are true best friends, and he inspires me every day. After a long and happy dating relationship, we’ve decided to tie the knot in the mountains of North Carolina, our home state. We’re planning a long-distance, largely-DIY, eco-conscious hip farm affair that celebrates family, friends, and love.
About Miss Snow

Sadness.

November 4th, 2009 @ 11:30 am by Miss Snow

Source

That’s our venue. Our beautiful, beautiful venue. Gone.

At this point, I feel silly being so sad because it is just a venue, but I am sad. Really sad.

Things will be OK. The event company is on top of everything. No one was hurt.

Think about/pray for the brides and grooms who have weddings there in the next few weeks and more importantly, for the firefighter injured fighting the blaze.

We have no current plans of action at this point except waiting. We trust our event planners…

I am so very sorry that this happened. Thankfully no lives were lost and hopefully that firefighter will recover quickly. My thoughts are with you and everyone else who was impacted by this. Things will work out for the best, they always do. Luckily you still have time to find a new venue.

Oh My! That is such awful news! We visited Claxton Farm when we were selecting a venue and we loved it (we ended up going with a venue in Gatlinburg instead).

I’m sure the planners are all over it though.

I am thankful no one was seriously hurt and hoping for a speedy recovery for the firefighter!

Hi All,

Thanks for the kind words. As I mentioned, I feel a little out of line being so sad when this affects so affects so many people, including the family who owns the farm and the family business that manages the events held there, not to mention all the people who have celebrated here over the years.

Luckily, the Claxtons and the event management company plan to work together and rebuild.

Here’s a link to the new blog where they plan to document the construction of the new Claxton Farm barn.

Completely unreal…*hug* So sorry Snow….I think the really unreal part is the indiciation that it was arson. Who would destroy such a beautiful old building like that? I also think it speaks well for the owners/event management company that they are working so quickly to recover and move forward.

I’ve been thinking about this all day. Is there anything we can do to help? Have the owners set up a place for donations or anything? It’s so sad that this happened right before the holidays and I just want to know if the generous WB community can help in any way. Let us know :) And more ::hugs::

This is awful… glad to hear no one was seriously hurt. Keep your chin up. My venue did not burn, but when they called to “Re-locate or reschedule due to unforeseen circumstances” I was crushed… and pretty ticked. Something wonderful will come along, I’m sure. You have the right perspective though: it’s not cancer, it’s a structure…you will get through this.

So sorry about this! I actually looked to have my wedding there but ended up going with Lake Lanier Tea House in Landrum, SC. Its got kind of a similar vibe and it is on a lake. I’m not sure how big your wedding is but if it is on the small side I would recommend them if you end up having to change your venue! http://www.lakelanierteahouse.com/
