Miss Snow, Madison, WI/Asheville, NC Age and Occupation: 28, PhD student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Graphic Designer Engagement Date: August 5, 2009 Wedding Date: June 2010 Venue: Claxton Farm About Me: I am true Southern gal displaced in the beautiful and blustery midwest. A true theatre geek at heart, I love any kind of performance and spend most of my time researching old productions in dank library archives. When not in the library, I love music (punk rock, bluegrass, and everything in between), design in all forms, any reality TV show on Bravo (especially those that feature housewives or sharp knives), beer and wine from Oregon, and exploring the outdoors. My fiance and I are true best friends, and he inspires me every day. After a long and happy dating relationship, we’ve decided to tie the knot in the mountains of North Carolina, our home state. We’re planning a long-distance, largely-DIY, eco-conscious hip farm affair that celebrates family, friends, and love.

Crafting Geekery

November 5th, 2009 @ 11:26 am by Miss Snow

I have two new crafting tools. My crafting guru Martha lures me with her siren song of well-designed scrapbooking gadgets. See, I’m not even a scrapbooker, but something about the smell of plastic flowers and cinnamon combined the tidy order of artful border punches and vellum paper in the first “Martha” aisle of Michaels just exudes “Yes, you ARE creative! Yes, you NEED this thirty dollar crafting accoutrement to make divinely-inspired paper goods!” I succumb every time. If Mr. Snow weren’t standing at the ready to sober my crafting lust, I’d have bought the entire aisle by now.

Behold, the beauty of the Rotary Cutter and Screw Punch*:

(please ignore my gross ironing board cover)

*No, really, I Googled both of these in the hopes of finding them cheaper online, and they’re not! Well, maybe the rotary cutter, but the cheap ones aren’t as lovely… *sigh*

The screwpunch is this handy gadget most often used in book making (I think to help make holes for the binding (correct me on that, crafting divas!). Basically, it punches different sized holes, much like a hole punch, but you can get them smack in the middle of a piece of paper/whatever you’re punching (unlike a traditional hole punch where you you have to bend the paper…am I making any sense? Hah!).

You just take the screwpunch, place it on top of the paper, and press down. Tada, a hole!

(Maybe I need to demonstrate this cool tool in action in another DIY project!)

I love that the Martha tools come in their own little cases… I have the bone folder, and it just makes me smile to put it back into it’s little sleeve when I’m done.

That’s not crazy, right?

Whenever I go into Michael’s I feel the exact some way. I just want to buy everythinggggg! It definitely takes some restraint to get in and out of there with ONLY the things on my list!

I thought I was the only one who didn’t know what a screw punch did — interesting concept! Martha’s tools have a siren song that I can’t resist, either.

I love buying crafting tools! I could probably have a garage sale with all of my leftover wedding craft tools!
