Mrs. Poodle's Picture
Mrs. Poodle, Santiago, Chile/San Bernardino, CA Age and Occupation: 27, Industrial & Web Designer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Firefighter & Mountain Patrol Engagement Date: February 25, 2009 Wedding Date: January 2010 Venue: Mr. P's Grandparents’ Ranch About Me: I’m a Chilean girl who's crazy about nature and swimming. I enjoy carving, drawing, reading and sewing; I drool over computers, fabric, pretty paper, purple and patterns. To me, chocolate should be one of the seven wonders, right next to lemon pie. I never thought an exchange work experience program was going to change my life forever, but while working in California, I met Mr. Poodle, and ever since my days are better and brighter. We are two goofy souls that, after finding each other, couldn’t help but want to be together forever. It has being a long and sometimes hard road, since we have to deal with such a long distance between us, but we are now facing the last stage of our Fiancé Visa, and soon we will be together. You know the best part? We will be married! So I’ll be blogging from Chile until just a few months before our “green and purple” wedding.
About Mrs. Poodle

For Our Loved Ones

November 5th, 2009 @ 4:08 pm by Mrs. Poodle

It’s been a week since Mr. Poodle and I finally were reunited, and we went from using Skype and the phone to say hola and buenas noches each day to saying it with a real hug and a kiss. It has being AMAZING!

But, we struggled again with the visa process. This time it was not our K1 Fiancé Visa, but my family’s. Since they were not able to start their process until our visa was accepted, we’ve now realized accepted the fact that the timing (for our January wedding) was just NOT going to work. And since we would have only been able to have a few of them with us at the wedding, we have decided we are going to move our wedding celebration date, so that way ALL of our Chilean guests (OK, all 4 of them) can be able to make it to our special day.

It sounds crazy to think we are going to change our wedding date just for 4 guests, right? But they are my special invitees (including Poodle Mom and Poodle BM Sister) and they mean the world to me. :)

After our talk, we decided the best month for us will be April, since it will be Mr. Poodle’s brother’s spring break (he is his best man). This will assure that the most important people in our lives will be able to make it.

We’ve faced different delays with our plans, and at this point we decided we were not going to fight it any more. It’s time to start planning for real, and while some things need to be changed, we do feel that everything will be for the best.

During our talk, we decided to focus on all the good things that can come from moving our wedding celebration date to April, so I could have a big smile on my face again!

  • We will have our loved ones by our sides
  • There will be better weather in April than in January (we hope)
  • We will have more time to complete the “oh so crazy” DIY list I put together… hehe
  • We will have time to send STDs!  (I was doing the happy dance for this one!)
  • And, I’ll have more time to BEE in the hive as a MISS! So you’ll see more of my crafting adventures!!!

After that list, the change in date did not sound so bad any longer. I finally felt relieved because having my family with me is my dream, and Mr. Poodle could not be any sweeter about it.

Changes can be really stressful, especially when we were just two and a half months away from our original wedding date. But at the same time, we now feel happy about it, ’cause our celebration will be all about having our loved ones with us. After all, that’s what weddings are all about… celebrating LOVE! <3

Have any of you faced an unexpected change in your wedding plans? Have you had to change your wedding date for any reason?

Aww, Poodle, now we are wedding month twins! :) I’m happy you all found something that works for everyone and that you won’t have to compromise, or have any family members miss such an important day.

You are probably all over this, but I just wanted to check: normally K-1 visas require you to marry within 90 days of entry. So you want to make sure that postponing the wedding doesn’t leave you with nastier visa issues down the road.

Sounds great! My husband and I are married already (obviously, since I just called him my husband) for similar reasons, but planning a big party for later as well.

We actually went straight for the green card, got married in April and are waiting for approval for my husband to move here from England. He’s actually visiting me here right now, though, so it’s not too bad (it’s a perk of being from a visa waiver country that he can do that). Hopefully he’ll get his residency by January or so. It’s a long process though!

I understand how important family is. It’s great that you’ll have them there with you in April.

My oldest sister did not attend my wedding because she got sick 2 days before the wedding. She had to have surgery so she spent that day of my wedding in the hospital :-( I was really sad but more important I was happy that she was OK. I got to see her the next day too.

WOW! You are getting married next week? Estas nerviosa??? I’m looking forward to reading about it. Muchas felicidades!

I think you are totally right-it means so much to have your loved ones with you on your wedding day, glad its all working out! I am looking forward to more posts! I didn’t have to change the wedding date, but definitely opted for a different date than I would have liked to make sure my sister, and soon to be Mother in law and brothr in law could make it…good reasons I think ;-)

so we get to keep you longer? yay! haha. but honestly, i don’t think it’s strange to move it for 4 guests, especially if they include your immediate family! of course you would want them there!

Aww, Ms. P!

I could totally relate with your family’s visa woes. It was down to the wire for us (2 days before the wedding) before my family got here, but all went well.

I do have to tell you that having the fam there at the wedding was the most “awesomest” thing ever!

I wish your family good luck, and I can’t wait to see more of your crazy-lady hardcore DIYing!

I don’t think it’s weird you moved the date for your loved ones. They are your family and not having them there just wouldn’t be the same…plus I’m glad we get to keep you longer as a Miss! I love reading your blogs (and seeing your Poodle!)

I understand perfectly what you are saying. . .and I don’t think is crazy you change your wedding date!
We had to choose a wedding date where all our close family (parents & siblings) could make it!
Almost all our family is going to be with us for the holidays, but it was kinda soon and my FI’s bro & family is in Germany until February, so we had to do it after.
And we have to wed in US so my sis and FI’s dad can make it. The thing is my parents visa expires in March, so I’m kinda scared because our wedding will be on September, I’m just praying for them to get the visa renewed! :S
I cannot imaging such a special moment and not having my parents or sis by my side (same goes to my FI). . .
