Down and Dirty in Khaki

November 6th, 2009 @ 11:30 am by Miss Trail Mix

Since I’ve already devoted a post to my beautiful bridesmaids and their dresses, I should probably keep things even and talk about what the manly men will be wearing for our wedding day. Well, technically it’s still up for discussion so I suppose I should rephrase that to say what I want the manly men to wear. We both agreed tuxedos were way too formal for a country soiree, so that left us with various suit options. Personally, I think a crisp khaki suit would be perfect for our outdoor summer affair. I keep seeing pictures all over the internet and really dig the style.

Take a look:

Laid-back and chill

I like these guys’ shades

How sweet is this couple? And I like the 3-piece look, too!

I’m picturing a sharp khaki suit with a sky blue shirt and yellow tie. And of course, yellow and blue argyle socks!

Unfortunately, Mr Trail Mix’s style and taste differ a bit from mine and he was decidedly NOT appreciating this look. Since I haven’t quite morphed into a complete bridezilla (yet), I decided to let the mister have a say on this one and look further into other suit options. Currently we are looking into various shades of grey for the suit (Heather grey? Charcoal grey? Coal grey? Who knew grey had so many options?).

Here are my shirt and tie inspirations:

This is the color blue I’m picturing for the shirts.

I love this tie! How good would it look against a blue shirt?

I mostly love this picture for the yellow house in the background. But I like the ties, too.

I’m still working on convincing Mr TM about the argyle socks. But I’m curious: which shade of grey do you think would go best with that shirt and tie combo? Or should, I try to convince him of how great he would look in a khaki suit?

In summer, I definitely think a lighter gray is the way to go.

I like the khaki look! It’s not for my wedding, but it’s really nice. If you want gray, I would probably say lighter gray.

I’m with Mr. TM on this one, and I say light grey. Although I’m totally biased because that’s what our guys are doing. :)

I would do light grey or maybe a tan (darker than khaki so maybe he’d like it). While I love blue shirts, if khaki is out, I would also think about white shirts. White shirts make the tie really stand out, especially if the suit is a darker shade of grey it will keep it summery.

I like the khaki look!! Have you guys tried on suits yet?? Maybe if you get him in one and he realizes how good he looks he’ll change his mind. Otherwise I’m a fan of a midshade grey. I don’t know what you’d call it, but not too dark that it’s almost black, and definitely not really light.
But I’m liking the shirt and tie combo, looks good!

Convince him he’ll look good in a khaki suit. I’m so glad I convinced my mister.

My FI was in a wedding in Mexico where the guys wore khaki suits with blue shirts- it was such a great combo and it looked great. I kind of love the whole look in your tie inspiration photo though- the darker suit + gorgeous yellow tie.
Anyway, the guys got their suits at JCrew so that might be a good place to look. Their suits are classic but definitely wearable again.

Definitely light grey, but I’m not sure what the cornflower blue shirt would look like with that. Maybe go for a classic white or off-white shirt and bring the blue in a different way, like through the bout or a pocket square? Just an idea.

I LOVE the second to last pic, as is, with the navy suit! But khaki or light gray would be cute, too. :)

I’m liking a light grey suit too…

The khaki is nice, but I love yellow w/ grey! It’s such a nice combo :)

ooo that yellow house … but grey will look lovely with the blue - and I think I would go for a darker grey, personally.
