About Mrs. Rainbow

Easy as “P’eye”

November 9th, 2009 @ 10:32 am by Mrs. Rainbow

Since I’ve become a bee, I’ve gotten quite a few requests from the hive about doing some makeup tutorials, so of course, I will gladly oblige!

When I do makeup, I never ever ever complete an application without false eyelashes. They add so much pop to the eyes. It’s especially important when you’re planning on being in front of the camera, which we all will be on our wedding day. Most of the time, natural lashes just disappear on camera, unless of course, you’re rocking the “spider lashes”…

… just don’t do it. That said, more often than not, when I’m applying lashes to someone, I hear “I’ve tried so many times but I just canNOT put lashes on myself.” Well have no fear, ladies, cause I’ve got a little trick for you! Let’s start from the beginning. Here are the tools that you’ll need:

Easy as P'eye : wedding beauty diy makeup Z205523 tools

1. Duo Lash Glue. It’s awesome, inexpensive, and you can find it at your local Walgreen’s. I suggest the one in the blue packaging; it starts out white and dries clear. There’s also one in pink packaging, which dries black. If you’re a lash newbie, this spells disaster—three words: Big. Black. Mess.

2. Cosmetic Scissors- doesn’t matter what kind.

3. Lashes. Duh. Thank you, Captain Obvious. Use whatever brand/style works for you. From $30 Shu Uemuras, to $13 MACs, to $1 E.L.F.s. Clearly, you pay more for quality (I.E. being assembled by hand vs. by a machine, real hair v.s. synthetic), but I’ve tried most brands, and I like and work with just about all of them.

4. Bobby Pin. I use it to put the glue on the lashes. You can use anything with a fine tip; the back of a skinny makeup brush works well, also.

Okay then! Now that you have said tools, here we go! Rainbow’s Super Easy Glam Lash Tutorial:

Easy as P'eye : wedding beauty diy makeup Z20552301 Duo

Squeeze a bit of Duo Lash Glue onto the tray of the lashes. Looks weird, works great. Trust me. Let the glue sit for about 30 seconds, this allows it to dry a little and get tacky. If you try to use it immediately, you’ll get nowhere.

Here’s the trick! Cut the lash strip in half. It makes them so much easier to handle and apply. Just make sure you remember to put the longer end on the outer half of your eye, the shorter end on the inner half.

Easy as P'eye : wedding beauty diy makeup Z205524 Glue

Bend the bobby pin and dip one end into the now tacky glue. Use it to apply a thin strip of glue to the band of the lash. Start with the longer half of the strip and place it on the outer half of your lash line, let dry, then repeat with the shorter half of the strip, applying it to the inner half of your lash line. Do the same thing to your other eye, and voila! Instant Glamour!

full strip applied

Left: bare and blah. Right: luscious lashes

The only thing I applied were lashes. No liner, no mascara. It makes a big difference, huh? Now shoo! Go get yourselves some lashes and some glue and give it a shot! I’d love to hear how it goes!

Wow! This actually seems, well, do-able. My only concern is the cry factor. How will these babies hold up after some vow-induced bawling?

As long as the glue is dry before you start crying, you’re good to go!

I totally needed this yesterday for our e-pics, haha! I decided to apply them myself (which I was totally out of practice on I discovered oh too late)…30 minutes later I was satisfied. Boo me.

Genius! I wish I could wear fake lashes every day. I know you said you like all of them, but do you really not have a fave brand? I usually get the ones at Mac but they are kind of expensive for my tastes… still, I like the way they look. Which ones are you using in this tutorial?

I put some fake eyelashes on a friend for halloween, and they turned out great. I did do the whole strip, but I only had to shift it one time, otherwise it was on there, and straight! I was shocked. As for the next tutorial, um eye shadow maybe?

Brilliant! I’m very impressed with your talents…Although I’m a little too crunchy for these, I think a bunch of my friends will appreciate this tutorial!

Amazing. And I second Miss Fro-Yo — I am a complete idiot when it comes to eye shadow application. Please teach me!

@Mrs.Penguin- I know you were asking for Miss Rainbow’s opinion…but I’ve been using the Ulta Professional brand since college (seems I always had some fancy sorority/frat event) and I got so many compliments my eyes looked amazing, but I’d always shock everyone telling them they were fake. They’re I think $6. I like them cause they’re the criss-crossy kind (umm…yeah, that’s an awesome description on my part…)

I’ve been applying the cheap-o false eyelashes for years when I’m on stage. I never heard of/thought of cutting them in two, but that makes so much sense. Cannot wait to have another opportunity to try this. Thanks!

This is most awesome! I’ve been trying to figure out the right way to put on my false lashes, no no avail. I will certainly test out your tutorial. Thanks!

You make this look so easy that I want to run to Walgreens tonight and try it out! Forget grocery shopping like I had previously planned! ;)

My mom has worn false lashes since she was 16 and she’s 55 now and when she goes to makeup counters they are so impressed with her skills that they don’t believe she has falsies on. Anyway, good tutorial that’s how I do mine except I use a toothpick…sounds kind of crazy but it really helps to push the lashes down into the lash line in case you messed up a bit. I think the most important step is letting the glue dry a bit before putting it on your eye.

Loooove fake eyelashes! I wore the little clusters every. single. day. in high school! I’ve never tried the whole strip, though. Might have to try it.

The make-up artist that did my trial even did the “cut them in half” trick! Absolutely genius!

I’ve never worn them-kind of scared to. This is a great tutorial though, if I ever decide to wear them, I’ll use this!!

I LVOEd my falsies! Only other thing Id recommend doing is measuring the starting full strip of lashes to your eye. They are always 3 lashes too long for my eyes, so I have to trim 3 off so they dont stick out past my lid. Other than that, great tutorial!!

Did anyone find that they had to accustom themselves to false lashes? I wore them once and my eyes hurt really bad by the end of the night because I wasn’t used to the weight. Suggestions? Should I start out with the clusters and work my way up to a full eye?

hmm… I might have to try these out! One question though from someone who has never tried falsies… how do you get them off at the end of the night? Do you pull them off? Do they come off by themselves?…
