Twirl!

November 9th, 2009 @ 6:12 pm by Mrs. French Fries

We’re having two flower girls and one ring bearer in our wedding, and I’ve come to realize that dressing children for a wedding is no small feat! To tackle the task, I decided to start with the flower girls.

I figured it would be easy to pick out a cute, “twirly” dress for both of our flower girls to wear for the wedding. I say “twirly,” because I know that when I was younger, I based the merits of a dress solely on how far it would poof out when I spun around in a circle. I wanted the girls to wear pink, not white, and I knew that I wanted something a bit different (there I go again, flaunting society’s conventions). I also wanted it to be reasonably priced. So, I had some parameters with which to start my search.

There were perfectly lovely non-white, twirly dresses out there, but nothing really struck a chord with me. I briefly considered these lovely dresses and liked them so much I bookmarked them. They’re available in pink, but they were a bit too traditional for my tastes. Still lovely, though, and someone should definitely snatch them up – they’re only $35!

I let the idea marinate for a few months and focused on other wedding planning activities. Then, one day, while perusing Etsy, it hit me. Tutus. Other bees have posed this idea before, and I completely love it! They’re adorable and the price is definitely right. Plus… how can you resist this?

You can’t. Resistance is futile.

What young girl wouldn’t want to don a tutu for a day and be a “princess?” They’re perfectly pink, and if you looked up “twirly” in the dictionary, I’m pretty sure there would be a picture of them next to it. Mr. French Fries’ niece is one of our flower girls and will be just shy of 4 years old by the time our wedding rolls around. She absolutely loves dressing up, so I know she’ll be so excited to wear her tutu. My niece will be our other flower girl, and she’ll be around a year old when we get hitched. While she might not appreciate the twirly-ness of a tutu, she’ll look absolutely adorable in it. To keep the little ladies comfortable (and my young niece happy) they’ll wear a light pink t-shirt / a pink onesie underneath their tutus. Tights and Mary Janes will round out the look.

Now, here’s where I need your help! I can’t decide between these two tutus. The first one is more of a gradient color look, and the second one is just a little pink explosion, and the third is a more subtle pink. I’ll sub the gerbera daisies and the roses out for pink peonies to match our wedding flowers no matter which one we decide on. I like all three, and so far have votes from people for each. I can’t decide!

Which do you prefer?

First Option: Color Gradient Tutu!

Second Option: Pink Explosion!

Third Option: Subtle Pink!

Have you decided what the littlest members of your wedding party will wear?

I love the gradient one! Adds a little more visual interest (as if tutus aren’t interesting enough!) I want a tutu, too! :D

Color Gradient Tutu! This looks just like some of the peonies I’ve seen. If you want a more subtle look than go for (obviously) subtle pink.

I love the subtle pink. I haven’t decided on a particular style but I plan on doing something from Crew Cuts, J.Crew’s kids line. Everything they do is super cute and reasonably priced compared to other flower girl options.

All 3 are so adorable! I think I like the 3rd one best, but you really can’t go wrong with any of them!

Ahh, I pass out from the cute! The thought of an entourage of tutu’d wees almost makes me want to reconsider my “no children in the wedding party” decision!

(Oh, right, we’re giving advice…lol! I like the gradient tutu!)
