Mrs. Ramen's Picture
Mrs. Ramen, Phoenix Age and Occupation: 26, Optometry Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Industrial Designer Engagement Date: January 3, 2009 Wedding Date: December 19, 2009 Venue: Phoenix Art Museum About Me: I'm an SF-born, Seattle-raised girl, transplanted to Phoenix where I'll be getting married, and planning all the way from Orange County where I go to school (yes, it feels as crazy as it sounds). I loooooove Yogurtland, am slightly very obsessed with all things paper, am heavily addicted to wedding blogs, deeply desire a puppy, thoroughly enjoy cooking, cry when I watch (almost all) movies, thrive on solo car-karaoke, can't stop being sarcastic, am neurotic about taking pictures of almost everything I eat before I eat it, and aspire to travel the world. My super-talented fiance and I are attempting to DIY a majority of our massive (~350 guests) "clean & modern, yet romantic, but completely unexpected, with a teeny dash of vintage" wedding, stay within our not-so-massive budget, and somehow get a really luxe (but still fun!) look/feel at the same time. In music terms (since we're both really into music) think Coldplay meets Motown meets Kanye meets Sinatra.

Engaged and Not Underage - Part 2

November 10th, 2009 @ 12:45 pm by Mrs. Ramen

We had our second engagement shoot while we were in San Francisco for Cousin Ramen’s August wedding. Sister Ramen has a natural eye for photography, so we borrowed our uncle’s SLR and took some photos around the Academy of Science and the DeYoung Museum. It was a super cold August day, but we braved the frigid San Franciscan weather and got some amazing shots! Cousin Fishcake and little Cousin mini-BM came along to help direct poses and hold purses/coats. It was actually really fun, even if my freshly-shaved leg hairs ended up growing 2 inches in the cold.

We stopped by the Ferry building beforehand and spontaneously picked up a couple bunches of dahlias from some street vendors and made a little bouquet to use as a prop. This little impromptu bouquet actually came in handy as one of the buttons on my dress popped off (too much good food in SF, I guess!), and I was able to use it to prevent any over-exposure! Either way, I was glad I got to have pictures with some pretty dahlias since we won’t be using them in the wedding.

My favorite thing about these shots is (IMHO) that they are so perfect WITHOUT any Photoshopping! Props to Sister Ramen!

I had previously mentioned that I wanted to make an e-pic photo book to use as a guestbook for our wedding. I ended up making one book on Blurb and one on MyPublisher (the 2 most popular DIY photo book companies), using our fave shots from each e-session. I really want to make parent photo books of our wedding photos on whichever company I end up liking better; of course, I had to try them both out for myself. The MyPublisher book already arrived at my parents’ house in Phoenix - according to Mr. Ramen and Sister Ramen, it’s really nice! I’m excited to see it, but will have to wait another week ’til I get to head home for Thanksgiving break! I’ll let you guys know how they turn out!

Did you use Blurb or MyPublisher (or any other companies)? How did your photo books turn out?

You two are such a cute couple! One of my coworkers actually just brought in her MyPublisher photo book of her little daughter and it looks great. Really professionally done.

Very cute pictures! We used Shutterfly since I got a free coupon with the purchase of my dress. I thought it came out really nice.

Love the SF pics and dahlias- my favorite. We did a blurb book and it turned out awesome, I am now doing wedding books through blurb.

We used MyPublisher through Costco and are very happy with the book - we used it for our guestbook and now have a keepsake we love!

I’m working on a blurb book of our honeymoon pictures right now, so I can’t speak to how it will look when finished…but I find the software easy to use and like making my own layouts.

Such cute pictures! I’ve made blurb books before, and they’re really simple to design, and look great!

I have actually used both and am quite pleased with how the books turned out. For our first dating anniversary I gave my fiance a small photobook from Blurb. We knew we wanted a photobook at the wedding and I couldn’t remember the site I ordered the first one from, so we made a new book on MyPublisher. Both were beautifully done. I felt like I had more freedom with Blurb, but MyPub had a lot to offer as well.

You two are such a cute couple! These pictures came out great! And good to know that the MyPublisher album came out well - I’m planning on using our e-shoot pics for our guestbook as well!

I haven’t seen an actual photobook from shutterfly.com, but I was playing around with it the other day with my own engagement pictures and it looked pretty cool.

You’ll obviously have great books with these lovely photos so I’m curious to see whether you think MyPublisher or Blurb takes the cake… Please let us know which you prefer!
