Mrs. Moonbeam, Los Angeles/San Antonio Age and Occupation: 26, Intern Architect Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Studio Analyst, aspiring Screenwriter Engagement Date: May 20, 2009 Wedding Date: November 2009 Venue: Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church (LaCoste, TX) and Mary Gray Events Center (Castroville, TX) About Me: I was born and raised in Texas, but after college I moved to Seattle for a couple of years and loved it. Then I followed my beau out here to LA and we're getting settled in. I've been making things since I can remember. I was raised by crafters. I love to sew, draw, paint, build, cook, bake (anything with a tangible end result is fair game). In that same spirit, I've been hosting since I was old enough to cook and set a fancy table. I kind of take after my grandmother, who believes that your morning OJ always tastes better out of the good crystal.

Hair Flower

November 10th, 2009 @ 4:48 pm by Mrs. Moonbeam

I used some scraps of raw silk, silk chiffon, lace and some beads that I had lying around. I ended up not using the pearls pictured.

Hair Flower : wedding accessories diy tutorial Hf 1

I took the silk and ironed on the first side of the two-sided iron on stuff.

Hair Flower : wedding accessories diy tutorial Hf 2 Then I ironed the silk chiffon onto the other side. Since there is a very loose weave don’t hold your iron there too long and let the adhesive seep through. That would get your iron dirty.

Hair Flower : wedding accessories diy tutorial Hf 3 Then draw on some basic floral shapes with tailor’s chalk.

Hair Flower : wedding accessories diy tutorial Hf 4 Cut them out in various shapes and sizes. Snip, fold and pin the lace.

Hair Flower : wedding accessories diy tutorial Hf 5 Pin them all in place. The iron on adhesive sort of made everything curl up, which kind of worked well since I was trying to figure out how to give the flower some shape.

Hair Flower : wedding accessories diy tutorial Hf 6 Tack down all the layers. It gets kind of thick, so a thimble probably would have been handy.

Hair Flower : wedding accessories diy tutorial Hf 7 Sew on some beads, I would put the thread through, slipped on about 4 or 5 beads, and sewed it down so that there would be a little bead loop when it was all said and done. This gave it a little bit of dimension.

Hair Flower : wedding accessories diy tutorial Hf 8 Then, I sewed it onto the birdcage veil that I bought from Brenda’s Bridal Veils on Etsy.

What do you think? What materials can you use to add a little dimension to DIY flowers?

No dye it’s just off white chiffon over a darkish silk.

I am in love with the color you chose and how it will contrast with the birdcage veil!
