Relationship Series: Hobbies

What are your favorite things to do together/hobbies you both enjoy together?

Mrs. Bunny - We’re both reporters, so we talk about work a lot, but that’s not really a hobby. Together, we enjoy watching movies and, um… playing Magic: The Gathering.

Now, don’t judge my geekiness before you hear me out. Mr. Bunny has been playing since the fifth grade, but was on a break from it when we got together. Then he and an old friend moved in together and each rekindled the other’s interest in the game … and they talked me into learning how to play.

I only play with him every once in a while because I like to use my spending money on other things, but it’s nice that we have a hobby that we both enjoy and can do together on the occasional Friday night.

We’ll also go out to karaoke every once in awhile. We both LOVE to sing!

Miss Trail Mix - Um, does eating count? That’s something we both like to do together…

Other than that, I’m having a hard time coming up with things… I think we tend to keep very separate interests and hobbies in order to maintain clear identities and not mush into one giant ball of coupledom…

We both like to play sports but hardly do that nowadays…

Mrs. Beagle - We are big food people too - we love to eat together. We also have a few TV series (right now- Dexter) that we watch together and we like to discuss and debate current events. We enjoy doing projects around the house that involve organization. I’ve also got him hooked on Longhorn football (hook ‘em!) and he introduced me to watching boxing.

Mrs. Mary Jane - Mr. Mary Jane and I enjoy taking photos and talking about photography together. We also like watching movies, road-tripping, and, yes, eating yummy foods together. We’re also both full time students, which takes up a great deal of our spare time given that we both work full time also. That’s not really a hobby, but it’s something we’ve got in common (which also keeps us from spending as much time together as we’d sometimes like).

Miss Hamster - Finding new restaurants, eating at said restaurants, finding new dessert places, eating at said dessert places (do you sense a theme here?).

Miss Lamb - We golf and watch football together. Those are probably the two things that count as a hobby that we enjoy. We’re doing lots of home improvement together as well, but I’m not sure that we enjoy it all the time…

I had to think hard about this question… Mr. Peng and I obviously do a lot of things together but I honestly don’t think we have a shared “hobby”. We love trivia and crossword puzzles, though! Those are probably the closest things to “hobbies” that we have in common. We tolerate but don’t share each other’s hobbies (mine being blogging and his being watching sports). At least I make a living with my hobby. He fritters away money betting on sports! I’m uber thankful we went to the same college and share a love for UCLA sports. I always feel bad for the girlfriends/wives at tailgates that aren’t as into UCLA as we are because they didn’t go. I can’t imagine having to spend countless hours at tailgates for teams I don’t have much interest in.

Mrs. Yorkie - Let’s see… there’s running (I’m the tortoise, he’s the hare), genealogy, crossword puzzles and (since the wedding) cooking. If collecting stamps in our National Parks Passport counts as a hobby, then there’s something else we love to do together. We’re a little brainy and a lot goofy, my Yorkie and me! :)

Mrs. Gummi Bear - I’m with the others - anything having to do with food!!

Other than that, we play games (video and board) and take walks around the neighborhood. I think mostly we have things that I love to do that Mr. GB is forced to do with me. And even when we are partaking in our separate hobbies, we tend to do them in the same room. Even if that means Mr. GB has to carry all my sewing equipment across the house.

Mrs. Cherry Blossom - We love to travel! That’s what we do… I think as long as we’ve been together, we’ve gone over 25+ trips together. Just last year, we went on about one trip per month, that includes weekend trips, and even as far as Bora Bora for our honeymoon, Jamaica, Puerto Vallarta and New York. And this year, we’re looking forward to our end of the year Asia trip. We also like to try new restaurants. :) Yummy - eat - eat - eat!

Miss Rainbow - Hmm… let’s see. We both love:

  • Food - we both love to cook, and go out to eat. We like ethnic food… anything different, really!
  • Travel - we (once we have uhm… money) both want to travel so so badly. We want to go everywhere and experience everything.
  • Adventure- we love love love theme parks. It’s a good thing we live in Florida! Anything that gets your adrenaline going is our thing. We’re still waiting on that skydiving expedition, though!

Miss Potato Chips - Like many bees, we love to cook and eat together. We love ordering pizza on Friday nights, making pancakes and watching House Hunters on Sunday mornings, and watching Food Network in the evenings. We love taking Target runs and wandering the aisles aimlessly. And when we’re really poor (all of the time) we love spending an afternoon in Border’s doing homework and reading their books and magazines.

Wow, we’re pretty boring huh? I meant to say, we love skydiving, mud-wrestling, and jet-setting to Vegas whenever we get a hankering for Cirque de Soleil. Saturday evenings are spent at the Playboy mansion.

Mrs. Mouse - We both love watching TV together, going out to eat and to the movies, bowling at our favorite dive, traveling, and going to see bands play.

Mrs. Joey - Together we like the usual eating out, traveling and going for long walks together. We also like a cooking challenge like making limoncello, and we may try curing meat.

Does building a house count as a hobby?  Because I think that’s all we’ve had time for since the wedding.

Mrs. Bee - I do wish Mr. Bee and I had more hobbies in common. We always joke that I’m a professional hobbyist because I’m interested in so many different things. The biggest difference between us is that I’m an ardent adventurer seeker, while Mr. Bee is an intellectual conversationalist.

One hobby that I used to enjoy was drinking wine together with an assortment of our favorite snacks - cheese, olives, soppressata, tomatoes/mozzarella/basil… alas there has been no wine drinking for this Bee in quite some time.

We do have a shared passion for blogging, but when it comes to hobbies, we’re pretty much opposites.

Ms. Swan - I’ll continue with the food theme here and say that we both like to try new restaurants, although I am usually the one that finds the restaurant for us. Mr. Swan has definitely gotten into my foodie tendencies since we’ve been together. We also both like going to sporting events and cultural performances together. I really love that Mr. Swan will go to events like plays and dance performance with me because I really enjoy cultural events (I don’t know if he is going to indulge my Alvin Ailey obsession this year. I go at least once per year). We also find that we travel in the same way. We both like to see and learn as much as we can about the history and culture of the places we visit. Plus, he doesn’t mind me being a guidebook junkie. I collect them. We’ve both traveled a lot before we met each other, but we hope to do more soon together.

Other than some similar TV habits, I’m not as big of a gym rat as Mr. Swan. It doesn’t help that we are not members of the same gym. Plus, I don’t have the same desire to spend energy learning how to golf. It can be time consuming being a golfer in the city.

Mrs. Duckling - I love crafting and DIY (which you probably already know). While Mr. Ducky doesn’t love it as much as I do, he’ll still help me when it involves my craft gadgets. We used the Yudu to make shirts for his company, which was quite an adventure.

We both like photography, and while we definitely aren’t professionals it’s still fun to take pictures together. Travel and photography is even better, although the budget isn’t allowing for much travel right now.

Cooking, like other bees have mentioned, is a hobby. We enjoy doing that together and being able to entertain and host guests. We also love finding new cookbooks. Are parties a hobby? We love to have parties and do all the decorations and food.

Mr. Ducky probably wishes that I shared his hobby of fishing and surfing. Surfing, I attempt, but am terrible at, so I enjoy my hobby of the beach/reading while he surfs. And fishing just isn’t my favorite, although I’ll go along with it sometimes for Mr. Ducky.

Miss Moonbeam - We like to run and bike together, and go for walks on the beach or hikes occasionally. We make some pretty great spaghetti and meatball dinners. We go to a lot of movies, also. That’s about it. He’s probably not going to get into dancing, crafting or baking any time soon, so I think those will stay all me.

Mrs. Bear Cub - We both love cooking, running, and being really goofy!

Recently we’ve been playing some pretty snazzy board games, too - Carcassonne, Ticket To Ride, Agricola!

Individually, we both love rock climbing, but we haven’t had the opportunity to do much together. :( Otherwise, we LOVE to go hiking, camping, and KAYAKING!!!

Mr. Bear Cub loves to play the guitar, and he always encourages me to play the flute along with him. That’s a hobby we’ll have to work on - even though I was classically trained for 15 years, I’m not the best at improv, and I’m super shy when I play for people!

Miss Ramen - Anything, everything. We like to travel, eat good food and pretend we are food snobs, watch our shows (Heroes, Lost, Chuck), and play volleyball together. On occasion, as cheesy as it sounds, we like to actually sing together while he plays the guitar.

Mrs. Snow - We both watch football together (but I can only handle a few games before I get football fatigue). We both enjoy discussing the nuances of strategy (it is like chess in weird way). We like to camp, hike, and do outdoorsy stuff together, and we’re excellent travel companions (we both like to go go go!).

Like many other bees, we also like to cook and explore restaurants together (we both have adventurous palates), and Mr. Snow may or may not admit to enjoying Top Chef and Project Runway as much I do. :)

Mr. Snow’s a bit of a daredevil and I’m more of a “keep your feet on the ground” type, so I think he wishes I were more adventurous.

I wish he liked theatre as much as I do (but I’ve scarred him with a lot bad productions).

Mrs. Deviled Egg - Together, we like to watch football or some of our TV shows, go to the gym, go for walks, see movies, go out to eat and travel. We used to do a lot of rollerblading together, but after an unfortunate accident and a nasal surgery, we haven’t really had any desire to get back in our skates. We also have some complementary hobbies. I like to bake and Mr. DE likes to eat my baked goods, and he likes to play the stock market and I like it when he makes money. :)

Miss Parfait - We like throwing giant Frisbees in the park and going on picnics! Actually, Mr. P doesn’t like eating outside, but I love packing up a cute and tasty picnic, and he indulges me. :)

We have a lot of fun working out together and going out dancing. Are Lazy Sundays a hobby? We love staying in all day Sunday, cuddling our dogs, and watching movies (until football season–sigh). I LOVE traveling with him. He keeps me laughing during car and airplane rides, and it’s a thrill being in a new place together!

There are so many other things we love to do together. Everything is fun when I’m with him!

Miss Frozen Yogurt - We love to hike together and go pretty much every day at some nearby trails, and on the weekends we go for our longest hike. Doggie Fro Yo is a happy girl on the weekends. :) We also love to cook together, lay in bed reading our latest books, and try new restaurants. And of course, we love to watch TV and movies together. We catch up on a lot of our shows on the weekend.

We love going on random adventures and quests for things. (Whether it’s an obscure book, video game, my quest for the perfect tights, etc.) He’s game for anything as long as I put the word adventure in it… and if we go to the video game store afterwards. He’s a patient sweetie.

He also wants to get into photography with me. I have a DSLR attached to me at all times, and now we’re saving for a second one.

We love mocking things on the internet together.

We love playing video games together.

We love cooking together!

We hike a lot and like to go camping. We enjoy taking our dog to the park and on lnog walks. We both workout and exercise a lot, although usually we do it simultaneously, not necessarily together.

Bar none, one of our favorite things to do together as a couple is cooking. Not just meals but experimentations. Thus far we have made home brews, smoking ribs, brisket, pulled pork (not in a grill but in a real home built smoker), etc, homemade sausage and so much more! We love creating new food together and our cuisine is TRULY Asian Fusion! Friends and family continually tell us who should open a restaurant!
Another top fave of ours is going to football games. It’s a whole event for us down to one of the most kick a$$ tailgates most ppl have been to! Great food, team accessories, homemade tailgating gear and a beautiful fall day is just top notch.

@Mrs. Beagle- I’m trying to get the FI hooked on longhorn football, but no luck–he’s an aggie. I’m not sure what I’m thinking with that one. I’m dreading the number of maroon and burnt orange House Divided gifts we get.

We make sweet, sweet music together; between the two of us we have the skills to write and record mostly anything. Cooking is another great one, though I have some serious training left before I match him, and we both love the movies. Traveling, exercising, hitting up bars and listening to live bands, working on our salsa moves, being outside…

Though I’m not a gym person or tech nerd and he’s not a literature nerd, we generally share a lot of interests!
