Colors!

November 11th, 2009 @ 3:29 pm by Mrs. Spaniel

Selecting our color palette has been an evolutionary process. I’ve really wanted to use shades of green (Mr. Spaniel’s favorite color!), and I think I have finally figured out what I mean by that. :)

I think I’m going with mostly black and white/ivory (damask? paisley?), with flowers and accents in shades of green.

I’ve been really drawn to these bridesmaids’ dresses since I first saw them. I have five girls, who are all different shapes and sizes, and I want to give them options that each will be comfortable in, but that still go well together. I like the tea length, I like the lace. I am not sure about the white/ivory underlay; I might go with black on black.

See? Green flowers. Hot? Hot. And I love the idea of pale greens to golds for an early spring wedding.

I’d definitely like to do a white (or ivory!) cake, with black paisley (or some other interesting pattern). I think I’d like the tiers to be square, though. One thing Mr. Spaniel and I have agreed on: at least one tier (the one we are eating from!) has to be marble cake with chocolate filling. :) I think if there is more than one flavor, the other should be fruity, don’t you?

Are you choosing different flavors for your cake tiers? Do they complement each other in any way? Did you even consider complementary flavors, or did you just pick your two favorites?

My friend had the same exact dresses as the one on the left! They were cute. I also like the other one :)

Ohh, the black & white cake on the right was almost our cake inspiration! Until we changed our theme for the billionth time!

We are doing a 3 tier cheesecake with 3 different flavors! Amaretto, Chocolate Chip, and Raspberry White Chocolate! I’m soo excited!

Great ideas! You should make an inspiration board with more greens in it to give yourself (and the hive!) more of an idea of the overall feel you’re going for!!

My sister was my MOH and she wore the dress on the right! Beware, it has a very low v-neck, so when she first tried on the dress her girls were out on display. I think it wouldn’t be an issue for someone with a smaller chest, but anyone over a larger C-cup will probably want some coverage. My sister ended up finding a bra that had built-in lace to cover her cleavage area!

@mrskesslertobe: It’s 2053.
@Piccateer: Definitely good to be aware of! I’ll make sure if anyone picks it that they know they can insert a modesty panel if they are more comfortable that way.

We had 4 tiers and just did each tier a different flavor that we liked and that we thought our guests would like. We got a white w/ raspberry filling layer, tiramisu, cheesecake, and some sort of delish chocolate. :)

I love both the bridesmaid dresses! So pretty! Plus they’d look great with any color underlay.

I love your colors! We had all one flavor of cake–white cake with raspberry filling and white chocolate buttercream frosting.

I never really thought about making our cake flavors go together, we just chose the two we liked most. The bottom tier was chocolate cake with raspberry filling and the next 2 tiers were lemon cake with mandarin filling. I guess they might have tasted funny together, but apart they were Wonderful!

Your inspiration cakes are lovely! I chose chocolate+white chocolate mousse, because that’s what was provided at the tasting, and everyone there loved it! We have one vanilla+vanilla layer for Mr. Parfait. He’s so boring about his desserts. : )

marble with fudge or marble with oreo frosting are my favourites! marble also goes well with raspberry if you wanted to stick with just one kind of cake : )
