Miss Pudding's Picture
Miss Pudding, Greater Toronto Area/Vermont Age and Occupation: 26, High School Teacher Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Computer Engineer Engagement Date: August 2008 Wedding Date: July 2010 Venue: Catholic Ceremony, Cultural Hall Reception About Me: Quite literally a citizen of the world, I was born in Poland, grew up in Canada, and now live in the beautiful state of Vermont. I love reading historical biographies, multi-tasking, teasing my hair, and, despite my height, wearing high heeled shoes. I am the ultimate klutz with an uncanny ability to put on a graceful front. Mr. Pudding and I have been dating for over six years, and are very excited to finally merge our (very large) families. We are planning a traditional Polish-Catholic wedding that is anything but predictable.
About Miss Pudding

Inspiration Board(s)

November 11th, 2009 @ 10:54 am by Miss Pudding

When I first shared our colour scheme of navy, white and yellow with Mama Pudding, she went on a little rant about how in Poland yellow flowers symbolize unfaithfulness. Even though I am not very superstitious, I don’t really know how I feel about our wedding making all of our Polish guests think of cheating. Mama P then suggested that I change the yellow to bright pink. So, I (quickly) made two inspiration boards to get a visual as to what a navy and white wedding with yellow or pink accents would look like.

Sources: Toile fabric, Jim Hjelm Bridesmaid Dress, Fans, Yellow Cocktails, Tablescape, Table Setting, Feather, Yellow Table Number, Flower Arrangement, Blue and Yellow Favors, Pink Bouquet, Pink Cocktails.

I considered both options, but with Mr. Pudding insisting that he did not want a “pink” wedding, I had settled on the yellow, despite Mama P’s objections.

This would not be the end of my wavering on the accent colour, however. A couple of weeks later, we decided that we would buy our flowers in bulk and have a family friend put together our centerpieces. With this decision, I became really worried about the variety of yellow flowers available when you purchase wholesale. I started to think that maybe pink flowers were easier to acquire.

In the end, I decided to keep the major accent colour as yellow. If we find that yellow flowers are impossible to get, we will buy pink. I think that having both colours as accents might be really cute - just look at the pink lemonade with yellow lemons in the 2nd inspiration board!

Are you keeping your colour scheme flexible? Are you including any colors that your parents or family deem culturally unacceptable?

Definitely do pink AND yellow accents! The pink drinks with the yellow lemons are adorable! And that way, everyone wins! I love those colors together!

Is orange less ‘unfaithful’. The yellow is gorgeous, but if you still have concerns…

Oh no! It’s amazing all the superstitions and unexpected traditions we run into when planning weddings. I hope you’re able to keep the yellow and not upset your mom… you can always do two accents. :)

Our accent colors are so flexible at this point, I’m not even sure what they are. ;)

Yellow and blue is gorgeous and if it is what you really want, you should go for it. BUT - I have fallen in love w/ the pink and navy blue combination, mainly because I saw it used so beautifully here (I guess it is more peach and navy): http://www.trendsettingwedding.com/2009/05/wedding-party-inspiration-navy-blue-peach.html

Good luck!

Yay navy! I am also using navy as my base color, with a very light blush pink and ivory as the accent colors. I was considering yellow as well but my mom was already upset that I was using such a “dark, ungirly” color like navy, so pink it is.

I like your color scheme. I love navy blue and yellow together, but chose not to use it for our wedding. Those are our college colors (Go Blue!), and because we were getting married on campus, I thought it would be too literal. Very cool though.

I do really like the pink, I have to admit! But obviously, I’m all about the yellow since that’s one of my colors so it looks like the obvious solution is to do both!

Very cute! I think using both pink and yellow is the perfect compromise. If it’s just yellow flowers that have a negative connotations (and not the color yellow in general), you can use pink flowers, but still have yellow design elements. Win win :)

Oh I love both of them! They’re both super cute. I always forget navy as a color when I’m trying to figure out our color scheme.

I think it’s great to be flexible! In the end I felt like I kept adding colors to my scheme, and it ended up great. Both yellow and pink look beautiful with the crisp navy-and-white backdrop.

I’m doing navy and yellow too! I actually really like the idea of adding pink in as well. The other thought I had was doing some different shades, ranging from peach to yellow to orange, could look cool. I’m getting married in spring, but I find there are a ton of great yellow flowers- calla lillies, daffodils, roses, forsythia, mums, daisies- in season then, not sure for summer. can’t wait to see what you come up with!

@KtobeC: honestly, I haven’t really looked into it yet, so it’s very possible that my worries are unfounded. I like your idea of the different shades of yellow and orange, though!

I love the pink/yellow combo. The lemonade and the champagne with the raspberry are gorgeous!

I’m biased because we’re doing pink and black, but I think that the pink and navy combo is great, and pops of yellow would be super cute.

Both boards are beautiful, but I’m partial to yellow :)

I’m partial to yellow but that’s because we’re doing navy, yellow and kelly green. ^_^ So for bouquets we’re doing yellow and white mix and at the reception it’s going to skew more towards green with green and white hydrangeas and some yellow mum accents (at least for now we are ^_^). No shame in mixing it all together, that’s what i say.

@SpinningJenny: Haha…we will inevitably have some green as well, since we’ll be using lots of filler flowers. The more the merrier, right?

Use the colors that make you happy. We started off with Teal and Claret but have added in silver and an aqua blue where needed. It’s whatever you and your fiance can picture for the big day!

Ha! This makes me think of when my Polish mother informed me I could not have a May wedding (I’m not, but I thought it was cute that she forbade it)!

@marquettemonv15: Was it because the month doesn’t have “r” in it? Supposedly, it’s bad luck to get married in a month that doesn’t have an “r” in it :P
