One Man’s Trash…

November 12th, 2009 @ 5:04 pm by Mrs. Hot Dog

… are MY wedding goodies! I spent the better part of today trolling garage sales, in search of anything I could use at our wedding. I already have 40 mason jars, to be used in various ways at the ceremony and reception. And today, I hit the MOTHER LODE. See for yourself…

See!!! I got an awesome assortment of vases and bowls. I’ll probably use the vases with the mason jars to create RAD centerpieces. And the candy-dish type things will be used on our candy buffet.

See those low fishbowl-type bowls in the front left? I have 3 of those, and I’m giving them to my sister for her wedding in October. And the small bowls just to the left of those? Another present for my sister. She’s using them as ice cream dishes for her ice cream sundae buffet! Sweet, no?

And the best part about all of this?? I only spent less than $25!

What are some awesome wedding deals you’ve gotten? Is anyone else addicted to garage sale-ing??

I’m addicted. Hands down. I’ve picked up toasting glasses (lead crystal) for $2.00, candy dishes, favor boxes, fabric, flowers, craft/DIY items… It’s such a rush for me!

All those glass things make me jealous :) I really wish it would stop raining in Oregon so I could go garage saling some more :

My wedding is nearly 40 years in the past (yup, still married…it really is more about the marriage than the wedding!) but I had to jump in and applaud your use of yard sale finds! It’s such a great way to have a fabulous party without breaking the bank, not to mention that you’re keeping all that stuff out of a landfill somewhere.

For those of you wondering what to do with all your vases etc. after the event…you might want to keep a few for special occasions, or even everyday use (we always have a vase of fresh flowers in our entry, even if it’s only a few sprigs and fronds from the yard). You can offer them as a set to someone else via Craigslist or Freecycle. And some of the things I see in your picture would make great terrariums!

I’m planning on collecting secondhand vases for my wedding too. But why does everyone except me seem to be able to find great stuff at garage sales and thrift stores?? I love “searching for treasure” but I rarely find anything I like. Maybe I am not being open-minded enough and only see the dust instead of the potential.
