Mrs. Frozen Yogurt's Picture
Mrs. Frozen Yogurt, Dallas Age and Occupation: 28, Special Projects Coordinator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Equity Trader Engagement Date: March 19, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2010 Venue: Marie Gabrielle, Dallas About Me: I was born and raised in Texas, and have lived in several of the cities across the state, but I currently reside in Austin. I went to college in Boston and have a special place in my heart for the Northeast. I love reading, shopping, wine, reuniting with college friends that are scattered across the country, reality TV, trying out new recipes, and attempting all the DIY projects that come along with wedding planning. I'm a "bleeding heart, save the world type" and thankfully my job allows me to work on legislation and policy to help out those in need. I met Mr. Frozen Yogurt in a bar, though he doesn't even drink! And now we are planning a modern yet vintage wedding in Dallas while dealing with the trials and tribulations of first time homeownership.

Clothing Inspired by Weddings

Have you been shopping for non-wedding related clothing since becoming engaged? Do you find yourself gravitating toward items that you would normally never wear, but now are drawn to because of their “wedding-ness”? No? Just me?

I was in J.Crew, and of course I love all their wedding and non-wedding stuff, but I started picking up shirts with flowers, lace and jewels. Like this:

Granted, both are great, but hey’re just not my normal style. But now? The wedding has infiltrated my closet in more ways than just the dress, veil, and shoes that live there until the wedding.

The other day I tried on a dress with a tulle bottom. Did you hear me, a TULLE bottom! I have not worn something with tulle since I was a little girl in a tutu. And this dress was not for something wedding related. I was thinking I could wear this to a party or something. I had to tell myself to put the dress down and step out of the dressing room. I’ve also been trying on hair flowers and jeweled headbands, and asking myself how I might be able to incorporate them into my everyday attire. The answer? I can’t, and most definitely shouldn’t. So, please friends—if you see me rocking something ridiculously wedding-like, just chalk it up to me having bride brain and thinking everything with a hint of shimmer, lace, or beading is gorgeous.

Am I alone in this? Is anyone else gravitating toward wedding-inspired clothing while planning?

I’m glad I’m not the only one! I’m in love with flower pins and details on shirts. I can’t stop making them!!!

That’s totally me! I’m usually not so ‘romantic’ in dress, but I find myself buying some lighter colors and stuff with pins/flowers/bows/etc. :p

I completely agree! In fact, I saw that top J Crew shirt in my Shop It To Me sale alert this morning and thought “Hmm, that’s cute” - but then snapped out of it and was like - I don’t wear shirts with 3-D flowers on one shoulder?! But I do think it’s ok to branch out a little, Miss Fro Yo! Do what makes you happy, even if that’s wearing a beaded, flowered headband :)

I’ve suddenly become obsessed with fabric flowers on clothing (much like the photo above) so…yes, I’m definitely right there with you!

I’ve always dressed pretty girl/romantic/feminine, so it’s all the same to me! Heck, I bought a light pink dress with fabric flowers on the shoulder a little over 2 years ago. Waaay before I knew anything about the wedding scene.

What “wedding world” IS starting to infiltrate is my interior decor! I just moved to a new apt. and it’s all dusty pastels, just like our wedding colors. I’m not sure if it’s because I just really like those colors, or if it’s because I’ve got bride brain. I guess we won’t find out until after the wedding!

Yes. I’m all about colored heels, flower pins, and headbands. I’m also having a hard time not wanting to by every pretty dress I find. I tried on a gorgeous purple formal gown the other day and I have no reason need it but I still want it. $120 for a dress I have no where to wear is a little out of my budget.

Yup, like many others, I am now obsessed with “romantic” details like fabric flowers, flowy fabric, and blush pink colors. I’m also constantly looking at dresses and wondering where in my wedding I can fit them in, LoL!

I didn’t even realize I was doing exactly this until you mentioned it but it is so true! I now have a lot of things with ruffles.

I am not even engaged yet but me and BF have been talking about wedding and colors and now I find myself buying things with those colors in it. I notice I am even wearing the color more.

haha I got my first apartment a few months before the wedding and now my entire bedroom matches our wedding colors to a T. in fact our table covers are to become curtains after the wedding.

Totally! I keep wearing a sparkly headband with curls, or doing a low bun with a flower tucked into the side. When people started asking me if these ‘dos were for the wedding I realized that before I was a “bride-to-be” I did not wear things like this!

I totally think that wedding style impacted my personal style, too.

I couldn’t agree more. I think we try to tell ourselves we’re not girly girls, but then the lace and prettiness creep in and there is no resisting.

I totally know what you mean! I am so crazy that the other day I was thinking about how I could wear my bridal hair piece again, haha.

Where did you find the tulle skirt?!?!?! Ever since p. chips posted that adorable flower girl tutu, I’ve wanted an adult version that I can wear out in public!

@KMSull: It was at off saks fifth avenue. Gorgeous, but it was reminiscent of the one Carrie wore in sex and the city, and i just looked silly. I didn’t even zip it.

I own about 5 of those J.Crew shirts. I love them (and they are super soft)!
