Early this morning, Mr. Parfait sent me an email. This is what it said:
Subject: Your Wedding Dress.
OFFFFF THHHHEEEEE FFUUUUUTTTTUUUURRREEEEEE!!!

Apparently, this is called the “Galaxy Dress”. It’s embroidered with 24,000 full color LEDs and will be the centerpiece of the “Fast Forward: Inventing the Future” exhibit at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago.
Here is an excerpt from The Wired article about the dress:
We used the smallest full-color LEDs, flat like paper, and measuring only 2 by 2 mm,” say designers Francesca Rosella and Ryan Genz in an email. “The circuits are extra-thin, flexible, and hand embroidered on a layer of silk in a way that gives it stretch so the LED fabric can move like normal fabric with lightness and fluidity.” The duo run an interactive clothing company called CuteCircuit.
Beyond the LEDs themselves, the Galaxy Dress is crafted in a way that should make the pickiest seamstresses proud.
To diffuse the LED light, the dress has four layers of silk chiffon and a pleated silk organza crinoline skirt. The extra-thin electronics allows the dress to follow the body shape closely like with normal fabric.
The areas without LEDs are decorated with more than 4000 hand-applied Swarovski crystals that range from clear crystal to bright pink. “The dress looks good even when it is switched off,” say the designers.

Wow, that’s definitely innovative! I’d be curious to see if a bride would actually wear it, but it looks really neat!

Did you see the video of the bride whose skirt lit up with white lights during her first dance? That’s what this reminds me of.

Ridiculous! My fiance bought me a book about fashion and technology, and they had some bananas things like that. (And some even way crazier).
That dress wouldn’t be complete without some light-up stripper heels. :p

Weird, but slightly amazing. It’s actually pretty when the lights are whitish in the video.
I showed this to the fella and the first thing he said was “whoa, it’s like a huge lite brite” (Mrs. Deviled Egg). Interesting most definitely.
