The Ladies’ Privilege

November 13th, 2009 @ 12:12 pm by Mrs. Lovebird

I’m a sucker for romantic comedies and I’m intrigued by this one.

Did you know there is an old wives’ tale which says that on February 29th, which of course, only happens on a leap year, a woman is “allowed” to propose to her boyfriend? I certainly didn’t! Ever wonder why society dictates (for the most part) that it is customary for the man to propose? I mean, it takes two people to decide they want to spend the rest of their lives together, doesn’t it? Though you won’t see me complaining, I mean, I got a ring out of it. If it were reversed, what would I propose with? A game console?

Anyways, I loved Amy Adams in Enchanted (should I be embarrassed to admit that?) and that male lead looks like a cutie.

Do you know of any ladies who took matters into their own hands?

For those who watched the trailer, do you know someone who got jewelry as a present thinking something much more “special” was inside? I do… I bet it happens more than you think.

I’m not sure if it’s so much about taking matters into my own hands I just knew that my man wasn’t ever going to get down on one knee and buy a diamond and all of that. I was planning on proposing to him in the traditional way but he foiled it and said “you can start telling people that we’re going to get married” (WHAT?) so now I’m re-planning my proposal to him! I am much better with those public declarations of love than he is, that’s all!

ANYWAY, that move does look really cute and yes that dude is pretty hunky. :)

I’ve never heard of that before, but it’s pretty awesome!
Plus, I bet the movie will be cute because Amy Adams is so freaking adorable.

I love Amy Adams, this will have to go on my must-see list! A friend of mine proposed to her boyfriend, and all my boyfriend had to say on the subject was “That’s stupid, way to steal his thunder”. That made me want to wait, however long it was…

Oh that movie looks like it will be so cute! Yeah, my BF we totally not be trying to have that. I think he feels it would emasculate him…I must admit Ido like the traditional ways.

i proposed to my boyfriend, but i didn’t get down on one knee with a ring or anything. he said yes and didn’t seem to have a problem with it at all, in fact we later found out his mother proposed to his father.

i guess i am pretty lucky to have chosen a guy who didn’t freak out or whine like a child just because i took some initiative.

I told my boyfriend at one point that I was going to propose to him (mostly joking around) and he said it was something that he wanted to do and didn’t want it taken away from him.

Sometimes I wonder why the woman has to be the one to wait, its so annoying when you just want to move on with your life one way or another and this guy you’ve been with, sometimes for YEARS, can’t get his mind figured out.

I told my boyfriend a couple times (when we weren’t engaged) that I felt like he was biding his time to make sure nothing better came along. He always assured me it wasn’t the case, but a woman can’t help feeling like that and some small part of me will always wonder if that isn’t the case, not just with my husband, but with men in general.

The movie looks cute… but I tend to not like romantic comedies. Although I do love Amy Adams!

Ha - I very nearly proposed to my boyfriend the night before we got engaged! We were on a lovely trip and I was getting tired of waiting for him. Glad I waited ;)

@Mrs. Lovebird: Ugh, if they are already in the “waiting” stage, I hope they don’t have to wait until Feb. ‘12! I would go crazy!

This movie looks so cute! I love rom-coms, but I love Amy Adams even more. I also like Matthew Goode…he was in Match Point, which I also loved. Plus he has that amazing accent!

Yeah…I got earrings that I thought might be something else. Funny thing was though I was so relieved to see earrings. It just wasn’t the right time. Which is hilarious to me because 4 months later apparently was the right time ;)

The movie looks immensely entertaining but I just wish one time they would make a movie about a woman breaking the traditional mold without making her suddenly lose her entire self.

That looks kinda cute. My husband always joked that fiancees should have to spend the amount of the ring cost on “engagement electronics” for the fiance! :)
