Dual Roles

Is anyone planning their wedding and also a bridesmaid in another wedding?

Dual Roles : wedding relationships Untitled untitled

I’m currently carrying out dual roles, and it has been great! It makes me feel like a good bridesmaid because while I’m searching for inspiration for my wedding, I’m also searching for inspiration for my friend Ashley’s wedding. See, she’s getting married next fall, and a fall wedding sounds amazing to me. Now, I’m excited about my spring wedding, but there is something about the fall that I just love. It allows me to live vicariously through all the design elements that she is able to incorporate into her wedding.

Also, we can share stories and feelings with one another that maybe other people wouldn’t get because they aren’t in the midst of planning, facing budget dilemmas, or vendor frustration. And let’s be honest, other non-brides usually just don’t care as much, and I feel guilty venting. But with Ashley? I know she’ll get what I’m saying. Also, I hope that I might be able to help her avoid things I wish I had avoided, or share information with her that I wish I knew.

I also hear that many people go through post wedding depression. I’m hoping that I will be able to avoid that at least partially because I will have another wonderful wedding to look forward to.

So, is anyone else carrying out dual roles? What has it been like for you?

I was a BM in my MOH’s wedding, hers was in June & mine was in October. She lived in a different city, so I didn’t really get to help her plan :( but she did help me with ideas & gave me all her bridal magazines after her wedding was over!

Fairy Bridesmaid and I got engaged three weeks apart and it was so wonderful to get to go through it all together. Unfortunately, hers was first, so no help with the PWD for me! ;)

Yes! I just got engaged yesterday and my best friend got engaged earlier this week! We will be in each other’s weddings and likely getting married within weeks/months of each other. We only live about 2 hours apart so we should be able to help each other out a lot!

Yes! I’ve actually been in three weddings already this year. And my MOH got married just over a week ago; I was her MOH. We’ve had a ton of wedding-related conversations and it’s been great to have someone other than FI to talk to about all things wedding-related!

Yes. We are getting married in February and my fiance’s brother is getting married 2 weeks before us. So us girls have been helping each other out and will be bridesmaids in each other’s weddings. Also my MOH will be getting married next year and I will also me her MOH so TOTALLY feel blessed in being able to share this experience and help each other out. It’s awesome.

I’m getting married in 41 days (!!!!!!!!!!!) and I’m a bridesmaid in my cousin’s wedding this coming April. I’m glad that I will have her wedding to focus on after my own to wave off the post wedding depression :)

OOOH I DID! I got Married on September 12. My husband and I were both in our friends wedding (and they were in ours) on September 5 - AS IN THE SATURDAY BEFORE OUR OWN!!! It was actually a really fun journey. We shared stories along the way, we did things in different orders so we gave each other helpful advice (not necessarily vendors…our wedding was in Upstate NY, theirs in Virignia). It was very helpful to have someone to lean on who was going through the exact same things and understood the stresses, complications, etc…but it was also helpful because we LOVED hearing about eachothers weddings in a time when we didnt want to bore others with our progress.

ooh, also, we had differnet style weddings as well, so we both provided each other with a fresh outside perspective into the others elements. That helped a TON

Three of my bridesmaids are either engaged now or were engaged during part of my engagement (one is now married). I also have four other close friends whose engagements overlapped with mine.

It’s so much fun having other people who will listen to wedding wedding wedding wedding wedding, as well as help me out with great ideas.

I am my bridesmaid’s maid of honor! It’s actually been really difficult though. She got engaged 6 months after me but is planning a wedding for 2 months before mine, and she is across the country, so it’s a financial strain. Also, her budget it much higher than mine, so there is some difficulty in finding inspiration for each other because our weddings will be so very different.

Haha, yes I was just in one wedding and have another in a few weeks. I’d say that the #1 perk for me as a bride-to-be who is also a bridesmaid is that I definitely understand what my brides are going through and how important every little detail is. I respect their situation a lot more and therefore feel like I’m a better bridesmaid overall. I look back to when I was a bridesmaid for my sister 9 years ago and I’m just ashamed about how complacent I was. Now I’m all over the place making sure they have everything they need and that we’re making a big enough deal over them.

Yes ma’am! My cousin is getting married exactly four weeks before me — she is in my wedding and I am in hers! Our poor family! haha. It’s been so great to have someone who “gets” it right along side me the whole way.

I am my MOH’s MOH! I’m getting married in May, and then she is getting married in October. She just got engaged a month ago, so I already have the big chunks of my planning out of the way and can give advice to her on how to tackle it!

I’m a bm in my friend’s wedding too! She got engaged in May and her wedding is next May. I got engaged in August and my wedding is in March. Most of its been great, but I had a hard time picking a date for want of not wanting to step on her toes too much, and we have similar tastes so I’ve had to compromise a few things so that she won’t feel like I’m copying her.
