Decor?

November 17th, 2009 @ 12:50 pm by Mrs. Pudding

On a recent excursion to downtown Burlington, I stepped into a local discount wholesale store. I have driven past the Big!Lots store many times, and have always laughed at the incredibly ridiculous name! There are no Big!Lots stores in Canada, so I was curious as to what I might find there. What I found was everything! The store had everything from furniture to birthday cards. It also had a large selection of vases, picture frames, and glass containers. Being a full out bridezilla, I started wondering if I could find anything there that I could use for the wedding. I found something, indeed!

These are candle holders. I picked up one large one and one small one to show Sister Pudding, and the more I look at them, the more I like them. Even though they are meant for candles, I think that they would look beautiful as a base for floral centerpieces. The best part? They were 75% off, so the tall one cost $3.50 and the small one cost $2.50.

Unfortunately, in common Miss Pudding fashion, I put off going back to Big!Lots. By the time I did, all of these babies were gone.

Now I have two candle holders. Any ideas as to what I should do with them?

Use it for the gift table perhaps

Maybe use them for bases for floral arrangements by your seating cards (if you’re doing them). Or, maybe use them on the bar to dress it up a bit?

Love them! You could use them on a guestbook table or escort card table, and do a couple arrangements of carnations stuck into an oasis sphere, like this: http://www.flowershopdeals.com/blog/tag/flower-centerpieces/

I’d love to do these for centerpieces but it takes a LOT of carnations so may not be budget friendly. You could also just get a bunch of other vases/candlesticks and use a different set on each table - the “un-matched” aspect could be really fun!

I woudl say either your cake table or maybe the guestbook table?? They’re great! You should definitely incorporate them!

I love big lots! The Dude and I go there every year to get silly xmas gifts for our families. Just watch out for all of the stuff they sell that’s past its expiration date!

Very pretty! I agree with everyone else–use it on the placecard, guestbook, or dessert table!

Pretty! You could balance (or glue) plates on the top to make cake stands!

Well I really liked them! I agree that they would be great as an accent on any table

Ooh, nice find. I adore Big Lots, as do all the women of my family. You never know what you’ll find. I love to get cheesy Christmas decor there.

I bought one of the jars for our candy buffet from big lots, and a whole lot of stuff from the martha stewart wedding collection - it was all marked at $2!

@krissycake: They have a lot of MS Craft things, too. It’s worth checking out!

I love those and you’re absolutely right, they would look amazing for holding floral pieces. Shame the top isn’t large enough to rest large flower arrangements but you could probably add a plate or something with glue to keep it in place.
