Let Them Eat Cake

November 17th, 2009 @ 10:54 am by Mrs. Cheeseburger

Mr. Cheeseburger and I both love funfetti cake with rainbow chip icing. In my opinion, it is the. best. cake. ever. Hands down.

If I had my way, I would be DIYing our funfetti wedding cake, but Cheeseburger Mom put the brakes on that idea.

She was totally freaked out by the thought, wondering when it would get made, how we would transport it (remember that our wedding is 3 hours away from any home base?), who would put the finishing touches on it, etc. Even after showing her many other brides’ DIY trials and successes, she still wasn’t convinced. In an effort to further convince her that DIY was the fiscally-responsibly decision, I spent some time one afternoon on this site. As I went through their store, adding the supplies I thought I would need to my cart, my total quickly climbed. When it was all said and done, my total was over $220.00! That is before all of the mix, icing, and other ingredients for the final cake, plus enough for a trial or two. Yikes. Mom strikes again. :) She is always right!

And so, the quest for cake inspiration as well as bakers in our area began. I love the look of fondant cakes, but I’m not a huge fan of the taste. Most bakers that I spoke to said that the look of most fondant designs can also be done in buttercream (if you’re good, which, I of course, am not). So, take a peek at what I’ve been ogling as inspiration! Enjoy!Let Them Eat Cake : wedding cake 08bcan1

My baker does a version of funfetti… you should totally ask your baker if they can do it!

Why not have your baker do funfetti and rainbow? It’d be fun!

This is my absolute favorite as well. Especially the rainbow chips, I ask for it every birthday, though sometimes I ask for strawberry cake instead of the funfetti. If you’re getting married in Bmore, there’s Starry Night Bakery in Westminster that has really delicious cakes that you can play around with flavors a lot and not use fondant.

Could not agree more, hands down best cake and frosting.
Now if only they would make a funfetti ice cream cake version.

Oh man I love funfetti too! That frosting should be illegal its that good. I haven’t had it in YEARS though. Is it ok to bring a funfetti cake to thanksgiving? I think I need to have one.

haha i think your mother is right, and when the wedding arrives you will be so glad youre not thinking about the cake!! love the funfetti idea though. i love the look of fondant too, but went with buttercream for my own cake, and it was very smooth and lovely too. although, i actually HATE cake passionately (weird, i know) so most of our cake-eating pictures are me eating cake and making a face, and him laughing AT me. ;-)

I am writing about this soon, my MOH & I’s love for funfetti and I would love to have it at my wedding. My mom scoffs at the idea, too!

I have no cake thoughts, though this post made me laugh because my sister is lobbying for Funfetti for my wedding. She told us if we don’t serve that she’ll have it at her own wedding because “it’s the best cake EVER.”
