Card Games

November 18th, 2009 @ 12:46 pm by Mrs. Trail Mix

OK, guess how many of the same card Mr Trail Mix and I received at our engagement party? Three, you might say? Four, eyes opening a little wider? Five, in shocked disbelief? Nope, no, and negatory.

I am impressed to announce that we received the same engagement card from EIGHT different people. Yes, you read that correctly, eight. How funny is that? I think it’s time for Hallmark to step up their game in the e-card department, eh? I’m not going to post the card because I don’t want anyone to feel badly in case they’re reading this, but it’s a very sweet engagement card. That we have now read 8 times.

So the next time you run off to buy an engagement card for someone, maybe skip the Hallmark section and try one of these:

Note: The suggestion to use one of these cards as an engagement card was tongue-in-cheek. I do not actually recommend using any of these. :)

Alright, just for fun, here’s a few pretty ones from my two go-to stores for cards, Papyrus or Kate’s Paperie

What’s your go-to store for good engagement or wedding cards? Any crafty readers make their own cards?

Haha… 8?! Wow, we only had 3 of the same. I love giving the “crafty-looking” cards from a local boutique (Parkleigh) and I have found some great Papyrus cards from Target.

I’m a huge stationary fan so we usually give cards that have no writing inside (until we write our special message)… I usually stock up on creative & pretty stationary when traveling or on sale so we always have some around :) We got 4 of the same card…so I understand

One of our friends (the one who designed our stds) makes hilarious cards. They’re not for everyone, but we find them completely amusing.

We didnt get any engagement cards, but miraculously out of 300+ guests invited, we only got one of the same cards twice. Every other card was different!

We actually got all different cards (and we got some 20+ engagement cards) but a lot of them came from England.
My favorite said something about how great it is to be engaged and to just ignore the advice from everybody - love knows the way. Another favorite had the dictionary definition of love on the front.
But I would totally give somebody a hilarious engagement card - perhaps in SomeECards style - if I could ever find one that isn’t sappy.
I do make my own cards, because it’s simply easier, although we did stock up on a bunch at a going-out-of-business sale.

I recently got a bit happy with the embossing powder and heat gun so I will be using the plethora of cards that were created.

But I do like the Target selection!

I love going to Target! I have to say, though, there’s a huge lack of cards for an engaged couple to give each other!

that’s hilarious!

(and is it bad that I would TOTALLY give those cartoon ones to a few of my closest friends? because I would. I’m not ashamed.)

I usually make all the cards I give since I’m obsessed with paper crafting. Hopefully, that means the card I give is always original!

Wow! I thought getting 5 of the same card for my 2st was weird…and everyone was there when I opened them!

I’m lame, and probably have gotten the same wedding card for people several times! Since we always send our gift to the couple well in advance of their wedding, it’s always a last minute pop into Hallmark to get them a card to take with us!

I’m making my Christmas cards this year!!! I need to be more crafty and I thought this would be a good place to start. $100 dollars in supplies later… I could have bought 10 boxes!

My hubby and I were keen to see if we got any duplicate wedding cards. The day after the wedding we sat on our bedroom floor and opened everything (so much fun!), and we were amazed that there wasn’t one duplicate. Then, as we were checking the list to see who gave what, I noticed one of my friends was missing. “It must still be in the car,” said my hubby, so off he went, found it, and guess what? - duplicate card! We were So Close! :-)
