Mrs. Rainbow, Tampa Age and Occupation: 22, Makeup Artist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Electrical Engineer/Programmer Engagement Date: November 27, 2008 Wedding Date: May 2010 Venue: The Gamble Plantation About Me: I'm a quirky (and slightly Type-A) freelance makeup artist who was born in Washington State, raised in Alabama, and now living with my one and only in sunny Florida. I'm fashion and beauty obsessed, and have recently discovered my inner domestic diva extraordinaire. I'm a wannabe chef, decorating addict, and trying desperately to be as crafty as possible---albeit only with a glue gun. I'm hopelessly in love with my fiance, and all things sparkly and feathery. Despite the glittery exterior, I'm a total hippie on the inside. When I'm not making up pretty faces, I love doing what I can to help people, animals, and the environment. Someday the FI and I will change the world, but first we're tackling our modern-vintage-Marie-Antoinette-meets-Alice-in-Wonderland inspired wedding. I just can't wait to be Mrs. Rainbow!

Fauxtobooth

November 18th, 2009 @ 2:02 pm by Mrs. Rainbow

Since I previously blogged about our wonderful photographer, let’s talk fauxtobooths. I am so excited to have one at our wedding! Cameras (especially photobooths) and I have always been BFF. What can I say? I’m a total ham. I already talked to our photographer about having one during the reception and she’s totally down for it—I mean, how many photos of people dancing during the reception does one need? Eeeeexactly! So, hive, I need your help. We’re totally on the fence as to which style we want our photobooth to be. Help?!

Fabric Backdrop- This is probably (okay, definitely) the cheapest and easiest route. Grab some fabric or a few curtains, hang them up, and voila! You have yourself a photobooth! Of course, being that this is the easiest route, it’s also not my favorite. Why can’t I just leave well enough alone? I’ll tell you why: it’s because I’m insane. Moving on…

Flower Wall- I saw this on one of Miss Moonbeam’s posts and I almost had a stroke. Uhm… gorgeous much? This option is probably (okay, okay, definitely) the most labor intensive, but heck, if it’s good enough for Karl Lagerfeld, it’s good enough for me! Now where do I find the time for something like this?

Getting Framed- I love this one! Whoever came up with this idea needs a cookie and a pat on the back. I love it, and best of all, it’s easily customizable to fit any color scheme. The downside- there’s a very limited scope, and I don’t know how keen I am with only seeing what’s behind the frame. I love the full body shots, and come on, I just want an excuse to get more shots of my dress. And then there’s…

Getting Framed Deluxe- Wow. Hi. This is hands down my favorite. I’m pretty sure it’s the most awesome fauxtobooth in the history of the earth. The “seating area” in front gives it so much depth and interest. It has the whimsy of the frames AND the full length shots. Now, where to find/rent vintage looking furniture that won’t cost an arm and a leg? Anyone?

What say you, hive? Which setup should I do? Are you having a fauxtobooth (or actual photobooth) at your wedding? Are you spicing it up with any creative elements?

definitely getting framed deluxe. I had a photobooth at my wedding and it was a hit—I WISH I could have done something this clever!

Hmm, I would say do the fabric backdrop to save yourself the time and money. But, I think that last photobooth is totally cool. Maybe post an ad on Craigslist looking to rent vintage furniture for the day?

I love the framed!
What if you do Alice-In-Wonderland like clocks, frames, tea pots, chairs, etc?
You can blow-up some illistarations from the book, cut them out and place them on the wall.

I’m totally in love with photobooths at weddings. I’ve wanted one for as long as I can remember…BEFORE it became a big wedding trend! I’m just hoping I can afford to have one at my wedding….AND be the first to do it!

I love that last one, but for time and sanity I would probably go with the fabric one

LOVE that last setup!

I would check thrift stores and even flea markets to find all the props you would need for it.

I want you to do the flower wall because it’s *gorgeous*!! Although, I agree, you’d have to be kind of crazy to do it :-)!

A photobooth would be totally fun but who mans it? The extra photographer? A camera set on a tripod? I would love to set out some fun and silly props for my fun and silly friends to play with!

What about having the fabric backdrop but providing a few empty frames for people to hold around their faces?? Best of both words! And you can easily score a few frames for super cheap at any thrift store…

my ceremony/reception are in the same locale and there will be fabric panels hung to block the parking lot for the ceremony. well-ah a fauxtobooth for the reception! i am slightly nervous about this…but the plan is to have a small table set up with my digital camera and some notecards and fancy pens. i’ll print out the photos myself and scrapbook our guestbook after the wedding. my cousins have dress up stuff galore so i’m sure i will be raiding their toy room for props;)

Love this! We’re doing one at our wedding and I was planning on a fabric backdrop. But I love Miss Trail Mix’s idea of having people hold big frames in front of themselves! That would be very cool.

I honestly think the fabric backdrop is the best. Its cheap, can be pretty (if you get good fabric), and there is a lot more option for poses, movement and space (unlike the frame one)

i like the fabric backdrop. the frames and stuff are cool but when i first looked at it, i lost the people in the picture. probably because i assumed they were actual picture frames. lol

The last one is amazing, but seems like a lot of work. I don’t know about you, but I have a very limited time to get everything set up at our venue, and I don’t think something like this would make the cut because of the time constraint (although a girl can dream….)! Are there any places to rent props in your area? We have one in my area with super cheap rental prices on a ton of random furniture and stuff that are usually rented out for theater productions.

I just had a thought - do you think your venue would have an antique-like piece of furniture that they would allow you to move into your photobooth area??

You know which one I’m partial to (the original Getting Framed) — we’re doing it for our wedding! :) That last one is a.m.a.z.i.n.g., but seems like it would require a lot of work / planning ahead unless you can borrow furniture from your venue. I think that no matter what you pick, it’ll be awesome and unique!

I love them all!! We had one, and used paper streamers a’ la Martha and a custom “Just Married” banner from Etsy and we had tons of props.
