Mrs. Pretzel's Picture
Mrs. Pretzel, Seattle Age and Occupation: 32 Learning, Training, and Development Specialist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28 Manufacturing Engineer Engagement Date: September 2, 2009 Wedding Date: July 2010 Venue: Catholic Church & The Engine Room at Georgetown Studios About Me: I’m just a thirty-something girl who never dreamed of weddings, poofy dresses, or ritzy receptions. I am a rabid knitter, except recently, wedding projects have replaced my yarn and needles. I’ve been fiercely independent since the age of 2 and 30 years later I think my family and friends had given up on me settling down and getting married. Ironically, I had to go all the way to Seattle to find a boy from Purdue. We fell in love over Seattle Beers and cooking together. I love NASCAR, he loves Legos. I can talk like a Muppet and he can fit a whole McDonald’s cheeseburger in his mouth. We are a two reception couple, currently planning a brewery inspired bash.

My Glasses Rockin’ “Bridol”

November 18th, 2009 @ 1:39 pm by Mrs. Pretzel

Ms P Chips’ post about Bridols got me thinking about my own real life Bridol. This past September, Mr Pretzel and I attended the FABULOUS wedding of Pretzel Groomsman V and the beautiful W. This was our first wedding since getting engaged and we were like sponges. While enjoying the extremely touching and personal ceremony and reception, Mr P and I made a number of mental notes about the killer details and inspiration that surrounded us. Over dinner the other night, V and W gave me the green light to share some of their wedding details with the hive.

The Venue: SoDo Park by Herban Feast voted best New Wedding Vendor, Best Caterer, & Best New Reception Site for 2009 by Seattle Bride. This venue is amazing! Located in the industrial SoDo neighborhood of Seattle, it has quirky touches everywhere. Old neon signs tucked in back corridors and a plethora of exposed rough-hewn wood. Airy and urban, Mr P and I fell in love with this space. The food, well, words cannot describe the amazing cuisine that we were treated to.

The Bride Wore Glasses! It never dawned on me that I didn’t have to ditch my specs on my wedding day. I’m totally in love with the idea of wearing my glasses at our wedding now. I haven’t decided, but I am leaning towards it.

Dahlias: I don’t need to say anything more! The bridesmaids’ and bride’s bouquets were made with blooms from Seattle’s famous Pike Place Market.

The Groom brewed his own beer (he is quite talented) which was available at the bar. It was darn tasty. (The photo below has nothing to do with beer- I just love it!)

Mr P and I snuck off to explore the maze like corridors of the building which also houses office space. We spied a leftover prop from the filming of Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo Film.

We also found a dust-covered New Belgium Brewing Bicycle and had an impromptu photo session. We were practicing all of our ANTM moves for our E-photos. :-)

Great inspiration! I thought about being a glasses bride, but for some reason decided to go with contacts for the big day. You’ll look great with glasses!

Absolutely beautiful venue, bride, details, photos, everything! What a lucky couple you guys are to have been able to attend that. ;) I feel like SoDo/Georgetown are going to rapidly transform from gross-industrial to hip-industrial-stylish-chic over the next few years and become Seattle’s next hottest neighborhood, due in no small part to spots like this.

Our caterer, Ravishing Radish, did a tasting event at their Georgetown Engine Room, and the whole exposed brick look was just perfect.

Oh I LOVE the Dahlias!! So colorful and fluffy, but with a modern edge.

Since being engaged, we’ve been to two weddings. One inspired a love of hydrangeas and the other… well, the other just made me feel bad that I would never be able to afford as large and grand a venue as that one!

I think if you normally wear glasses, you would look too different on your wedding day if you didn’t have them on. One of my friends ditched hers on her wedding day and it just did not look like her. And, in a way, I think her personality changed a little that day because of it.

My mom wore her glasses for most of her wedding day and I thought she looked beautiful!

I love brides in glasses! I might sport mine for the tail end of the reception, since I am worried that contact lenses and tons for make up will be very irritating for my eyes.

What a beautiful wedding in a beautiful location! And I also think you should totally rock your glasses on your wedding day if that makes you more comfortable!

I’ve worn glasses for twenty years and I know full well I look better without them. How do I know? Because every time I go out without them, people go, “Oh, you look so pretty today!”. No way in hell was I wearing them for my wedding. If you have a rockin’ glasses face, go for it! But I sooo do not :-)

@LittlestBirds: Spoiler… that’s our venue :-)
@Mrs. Deviled Egg: In our ephotos I mixed it up- glasses off, and glasses on. I really liked the glasses on better… Like you said, I didn’t feel like me without them.
@KMSull: my fav photo too :-)
