Mrs. Dachshund, Fresno, CA Age and Occupation: 24, Legal Office Assistant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Computer Technician Engagement Date: April 18, 2009 Wedding Date: May 2010 Venue: Victorian Gardens of Two Sisters About Me: I’m a 24-year-old Californian bride-to-be who found love in the most unlikely of places - an online video game! I’m a farmer’s daughter living in rural Central California, but will always have a special place in my heart for the city. My future husband is a 27-year-old extraordinarily tall, exceptionally cute, and undoubtedly Canadian boy who was able to sweep me off my feet and take me for his bride. I love color, folksy songs that make me smile, interior design, kettle corn, my one-year-old puppy, Juno, and my fiance, of course! We’re planning a DIY garden wedding with a laundry-list of projects, all while dealing with the bureaucracy that is American Immigration!

Playing Catch Up

November 18th, 2009 @ 5:34 pm by Mrs. Dachshund

Okay. So I’m not going to start this post with another apology for my absence. I know I’ve been a slacking blogger. But, even worse, I’ve been a slacking bride.

As you all well know, we’re more than halfway through the month of November. Wait, what? NOVEMBER?!? Our wedding is six months away and I’ve not accomplished very much.

Where in the world has the time gone?

I will admit that adjusting to my new life with Mr. Doxie has been a bit distracting, but man! Time really does fly.

Not only can I not believe it’s already been seven months since Mr. Dachshund and I decided to get married, but he’s already been here for a month! A whole month has passed, in which nothing related to our wedding in May was completed. It goes without saying that “wedding overdrive” is about to commence in the Doxie household!

However, the holidays are rapidly approaching, and procrastination is the easy route to choose for this dachshund. I’m almost nervous that the long, long laundry list of my to-do tasks will be ignored until the new year. Almost. I really can’t afford to procrastinate any longer; in addition to the huge amount of crafting that I’ve decided to undertake for the wedding (the amount of which I’ve actually finished is only a drop in the bucket), I still have one huuuge thing that I haven’t yet taken care of: The Dress.

I’ve been putting off my search for The Dress for months now, terrified that I won’t find anything that will flatter my less-than-flattering body. The thought of shopping for one just isn’t appealing. At all. I mean, I have an idea of what I’d like, but I’ve convinced myself that I won’t have any luck finding it. I know that unless I want one of my (many) wedding nightmares* to come true, I must will find a dress. But alas, I must begin shopping for one to do so. And soon! The clock is a-tickin’ and I don’t want to limit my already limited selection any more.

Have you procrastinated in your wedding planning, only to realize that time has snuck up on you? What did it take to get you back on track?

* I wake up on the morning of the wedding, excited to marry Mr. Doxie, and I realize that I have nothing to wear! I ran to the closest bridal salon, and after making my guests wait hours for me to choose a dress, I ended up in something like this. Definitely not a dream I want to come true!

You’ll find something. I plan to get married next year, and don’t have a date yet! (and of course have nothing planned yet either)

That is the exact same nightmare I keep having! And in it, just like yours, everyone waits while my mom and I frantically go to bridal salons.

Glad to know others have wedding nightmares too . . . mine range from not having a dress, to sitting on the cake or not having a photographer! I wake up in a sweat each time!

Yay, Doxie’s back! I dreaded the dress shopping too, but it wasn’t all bad. Bring snacks and be caffeinated.

I dreaded the dress shopping too! It turned out really well in the end though, as I’m sure it will for you too. Can’t wait to see what dress you pick!

I procrastinated on finding my dress, so PLEASE learn from my mistake…DON’T DO IT! Don’t mean to shout, but really, I wouldn’t want another bride to end up with a dress they just like, not love.

Welcome back, lady. :) I’m sure you’ll find a dress that’s great. Just go for it. I was super scared to go too.

Get some caffine, some snacks, and some supportive friends. Set aside a whole day. Shop Shop Shop Shop and then go get ice cream for dinner. You may only try on one dress and love it, or maybe you’ll need to try on 100. But remember, procrastinating it further is not going to help your stress level!

So, um…I read this and thought to myself “CRAP! We only have 7 months left!” and then made a mental note to work on stuff over Thanksgiving. Time really does fly.

I had been putting off dress shopping too. I haven’t been happy with my weight and kept thinking i wouldn’t like anything. NOT TRUE. I still loved the dresses and it has motivated me to hit the gym and enter a 5k run in February. (5k is a big deal to me but probably not to most.) My advice, just go! It will really make you feel like a bride. It will get you excited for everything else you have to do ’cause it reminds you of getting married. Every time I tried on a dress, I kept thinking of the big day. I kept thinking of how my dress would look at the reception and got me motivated to start on some reception stuff! So go, go, go try on dresses. I promise you feel fine and you will really enjoy the experience. One more piece of advice take only one or two people that will not be critical of you but will be honest. Believe not every dress will look cute but you will find “the one”.
