Sprinkle Soiree: The Day Before!

November 18th, 2009 @ 5:58 pm by Mrs. Sprinkle

The week before the wedding was interesting for me. I did all of the things I had told myself not to do for the past nine months, and experienced every bridal cliche there is. I couldn’t eat, I definitely didn’t sleep, and I waited until the last minute on so many things, that a lot of it just didn’t get done.

I will spare you the details of the crazy week leading up to the wedding. Let’s just say I was a shaky, undernourished, over-caffeinated, sleep-deprived ball of mess. One of my favorite moments was getting a text message at 4AM from Mr. Sprinkle (who was sleeping in the bedroom, as he had to work early mornings that week and couldn’t stay up with me to work on projects) asking me to please stop drilling. Yes, I was drilling holes into chalkboard menus at 4AM.

The day before the wedding was insane. Absolutely mad.

  • I got out of bed at 5AM on Friday, after 3 hours of fitful sleep, to make it to the flower mart before all the good flowers were gone.
  • My mom and brother accompanied me (my MOH was not able to make it at this point, which was a bummer) and picked out all of the flowers, brought them back home and dropped them off at my preschool.

  • Started baking. It was a nice, toasty, 100 degree day! I banged out 150 cupcakes and 8 dozen cookies in less than 4 hours.

Sprinkle Soiree: The Day Before! : wedding recap rehearsal Dsc 05003 many, many cupcakes!

  • While I baked, my brother and mom packaged edible favors, Mr. Sprinkle picked up some last minute supplies, and friends arranged all of our flowers in jars and such. Friends are amazing. (Note: When friends ask if you need help with anything, say yes, no matter what, and then step away and let them help. I could not have put this all together without their love!)

  • At some point, someone handed me a soyrizo taco and begged me to eat, but my stomach wasn’t having any of it. I had to ask my mom to sample the batters and frosting because I couldn’t even do that!
  • Someone else handed me a pumpkin spice latte, and I am pretty sure that was my only sustenance until 11 that night.
  • I didn’t finish our programs, or the non-floral centerpieces. I was a little bit of a mess until I basically said, “Eff this. What’s done is done and I’m not going to worry about it.”

Sprinkle Soiree: The Day Before! : wedding recap rehearsal Dsc 05006 At least the flowers were finished! and lovely!

Suddenly, it was 4 in the afternoon and we were stuck in traffic on our way downtown, late for the rehearsal. My mom got lost and was crying on the phone. Mr. Sprinkle’s parents were a bit tired and grumpy from the heat and long drive from Arizona. Eventually, everyone finally made it to the venue, we ran through some last minute things with our site coordinator, and we headed back to our place to finish setting up for the dinner.

I can’t stress enough how absolutely crazy this day was. I can’t even remember what happened during most of it. I remember running, literally sprinting, from the car to the house many many times. I remember people walking into the kitchen while I was covered in flour and sweat and smears of chocolate, asking if I was OK. I remember arriving back at our house after the rehearsal, the sky getting dark, and a beautiful sunset. I remember guests starting to arrive!

And then the dinner began…

I am sorry that your day before was so crazy, but it makes me feel a little more normal for my meltdown! I cannot even imagine baking all those cookies and cupcakes the day before! The flowers look great, can’t wait to hear more!
ps I have the black ikea table holding the cupcakes!

I am not sure if I could go through that much stress. You must be very tough. And all that baking in only 4 hours? I am way impressed.

Whoa! I’m impressed you got that all done in 1 day - it probably would have normally taken a week! Your flowers look beautiful though and those cupcakes look yummy!

Oh man, that sounds le crazy!! I am nervous just reading about it. But I have to admit that I LOL’d at the text about the drilling. Soundslike something that would happen in my house; my husbad kept calling my DIY projects “hare-brained wedding schemes.”.

That is a little bit crazy, but I’m so glad that you have such supportive friends and family to get you through it! I’m crossing my fingers that things got a little calmer at dinner!
