About Mrs. Trail Mix

The After Party

November 19th, 2009 @ 11:55 am by Mrs. Trail Mix

Our wedding reception is set to end at 11:30 PM. While 6 or so hours of drinking, dining and dancing may be enough for most, it’s the only wedding we’re having, so we’re a-gonna prolong the fun for as long as we can (and we will have spent 14 months planning this thing so gosh darn it, it’s going to last as long as we want it to!).

Enter the concept of the after party. Excessive? Perhaps slightly. Majorly fun? Hell yes! All the weddings I’ve been to have had some sort of after party, be it an actual party in a different room of the venue or an informal gathering at a local bar or even a hotel room!

I would love to do something at a dive bar (can you picture me in a wedding dress at some grimy, hole-in-the-wall bar? I can!!!!). But sadly, my town is so stupidly small that there is no bar for us to go to. There’s one restaurant that also has a bar, but things are usually shut down by midnight.

So that leaves us with the few bed and breakfasts that all of our friends will be staying at. Unfortunately, most of the rooms are not big enough to accommodate a party of more than 2 (and THAT type of party won’t be happening until waaaaaaay later in the evening. :)

Enter the idea of a late-night bonfire.

The bed and breakfast where we’ll be staying, along with the bridal party, has agreed to allow us to host a bonfire after the wedding reception! I’m so excited. I’m picturing s’mores, red plastic solo cups, a keg and me in a hoodie sweatshirt over my wedding dress. It will be a time to kick back, re-live the night and prolong the inevitable yet sad end to hopefully one of the best days of our lives. To me, a bonfire conveys a nostalgic, old-timey atmosphere that makes me think of banjo music, whiskey and reminiscing on good times back in high school and college.

Take a look at a few other weddings that have done something similar…

See? Super-duper fun-ness…

Are you having an after party? What’s it going to be like?

LOVE that idea! I’m a New Orleans bride, so I plan for my after-party to last ALL night in some fun bar. I want karaoke and dancing on tables.

Great idea! I love bonfire and S’mores and in fact we are doing that at a b & b the night before the wedding as an informal get together with all our guests. There will be an indoor part as well in case only the brave venture out into a VT winter’s night!

I love the idea of an afterparty bonfire! We’re old geezers, though, so we’re ending the party at 11 (when our venue requires the music to be shut down)… and having our own personal afterparty later. ;)

that sounds pretty similar to our after party… except ours will be a bonfire on the beach! It’s definitely one of the aspects of the wedding weekend that I am looking forward to the most!

We’re having an after-party at the hotel bar/lounge where everyone is staying. It’s on the top floor and overlooks the city, so it will be really fun!

Plus we don’t have to worry about going to a downtown bar, waiting in line, squeezing past people, etc. We’ll probably have it all to ourselves!

Fire pit, s’mores, beer, and a guitar. It was a great wind-down from the big day.

OhMyGod! I love the idea of a late night bonfire. There was this one place that I looked at near us that let you camped out overnight on their grands for the small fee of holding a bonfire after the wedding. Sigh.

I love bonfires on the beach! San Francisco is great in many ways but our perpetual state of fog/cold nixes this for us.

A bon fire after party would be sooooo much fun!! We’ve been to weddings with after parties and weddings without after parties. There are def pros and cons and I think a lot of it depends on the group that you have with you. I don’t want to do an after party but I have a feeling that we’ll end up going out with our bridal party and friends afterwards. Sort of a unofficial after party. :)

I really really wanted to do an after party, but we had to get up early the next day to leave on our honeymoon. I really wish we could have left on Monday and partied all night saturday night!!

That looks really fun, and I’m sure it will make for great pictures! We haven’t thought of any after party plans yet, but there’s a cute burger place near our venue I’d like to explore in a wedding dress :).

Haha…that’s EXACTLY what we’re doing. We rented out the entire B&B we’re getting married at for the weekend so the owners told us we have run of the house/property.

Our reception will end around 11-11:30 and then anyone that would like to continue the festivites will join us at the back edge of the property for a late night bonfire with smores and solo cups! ;)

I really want to have an after party back at our house after the reception ends at 6pm. Everyone tells me I am insane but I want to see my out of town relatives that we don’t get to see very often. Thankfully our backyard can handle the casual get together. I am just not sure where everyone will park. ;)

Yes! I love a bonfire wedding after party! And you definitely have to have smores! We’re gonna have some type of after party that involves bars, and possibly karaoke! :)

Several of my family members wanted to contribute somehow to the wedding, so my 4 Uncles were in charge of beer and my 3 Aunts were in charge of snacks. Well, all 7 outdid themselves. We had 2 kegs, and more food than approx 30 people could eat! We just hung out in the hotel lounge and played some music off an iPod dock. it was relaxing and fun, and I had a great time with friends, family, and my new hubby!
