Mrs. Lamb, Norfolk Age and Occupation: 25, Homeland Security Consultant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Graduate Student Engagement Date: January 2009 Wedding Date: January 2010 Venue: Trinity Presbyterian Church/Harrison Opera House About Me: I’m a Homeland Security Consultant with a tendency towards pulling office pranks, taking lunch breaks, and drinking Wawa shakes. I’m also an English major with a serious obsession with alliteration and rhymes. While I’m not keeping America safe, I’m training for half marathons and the Escape from Alcatraz swim. Or moving for the third time this year. Or baking. Or wedding crafting. Or crying about wedding planning. All the while, I’m getting myself into Lucille Ball-esque scrapes and making Jim Carey-esque faces. Our big fat Czech/Baptist/Jewish/Italian wedding is a combination of vintage eclectic, DIY, and little spoonful of sugar from our Event Coordinator. It’s going to be a Norfolk flavored wedding with the verve of an only-daughter-blow-out bash!
About Mrs. Lamb

Pew Sprucing

November 20th, 2009 @ 6:21 pm by Mrs. Lamb

I adore the inside of our church. The walls are a soothing green and the dark wood pews maintain a very elegant atmosphere. It’s a reverently decorated church, yet very comforting. To me, it feels like home. Since the church will still be decorated for Christmas on our wedding day, we haven’t planned much in the way of other decorations. In fact, I had let it fall off of my radar after I finished the Unity Candles.

Then my coordinator, Miss P, emailed me and casually mentioned these bad boys from Victorian Petals at the end of her note:

Be still my beating heart! The feathers! The romance! Me gusta. Her idea was to hang them on the pews as the finishing touch to the ceremony decor. I was all over it. Then she emailed me and said she thought we could DIY! She found some materials on Save-on-Crafts (the place I bought my Bridal Illusion Tulle as well):

And then, she offered to make them herself since I have so many other projects on my plate! I {heart} Miss P! I ordered the supplies and had materials sent directly to her (enough to make 12 of them). I love how we can work together like this. I toss ideas to her and she helps me make the dream a reality. Or in this case, she found an awesome idea and is taking the lead on executing it. With all of the other stresses in my life right now, knowing that she’s thinking of the details that I’m not, really takes a weight off of me.

P.S. - Save-on-Crafts also had this baby in their online catalog for $2.99! Unfortunately it wasn’t available at the time I purchased my supplies.

Are you decorating your ceremony space in a significant way? What elements from the space itself are you keeping in your decor?

I was just in Michael’s this week looking for Christmas decorations and I saw a red and green feather wreath just like the one from Save on Crafts!! I fell in love, but then when I saw it was 30 bucks, I was just meh. SO GLAD you are DIYing!! Can’t wait to see them, they’ll look great! :)

This is beautiful. It’s funny, I show my mother photos like these and it makes no difference in her strict “NO FEATHERS” policy regarding the wedding decor. (It’s her only hard-line position.) I think feathers were ruined for her in the 70s and 80s.

We got married outdoors, so it was all of our own decorations for the ceremony site itself. We used a gorgeous arbor and some small trees accented with ribbon. It was very simple, but I thought it created some kind of a focus on us, while still accenting the wonderful outdoors!

I have to say that this was one of my fave elements of the ceremony too! As soon as I saw them, I knew! I can’t wait for the feathers to come together with the candles behind the altar! Ooooh, la, la! :)
