About Mrs. Mary Jane

Thank You, Thank You

November 20th, 2009 @ 3:19 pm by Mrs. Mary Jane

You’ve seen our announcements, but what about our Thank You cards?

We decided to use photos for those too, but this time, I opted to order them from Shutterfly.

I chose the blank photo note cards. They come in boxes of 12 and are blank (duh) inside. Because of this, I used Photoshop to just write our sentiment on the pictures themselves. The cost was about $40 for 4 boxes of 12, so 48 note cards with envelopes. They’re small cards, too - perfect for Thank Yous and juuuust big enough for mailing. (Unfortunately though, they still require a 0.42 stamp!)

Here they are, from afar.

I chose four different pictures, as you can see.

I am overall pretty happy with the quality of the cards. (At least they aren’t *ahem* upside-down like the announcements.) The cardstock was heavier than that of the announcements (which, if you recall, I got from VistaPrint), and the cards themselves just felt higher-quality.

My only complaints are trivial: For one, the picture cracked along the fold when I folded the cards. The cards came flat and really weren’t scored very well. The cracking isn’t noticeable really. Just thought I’d show you.

Additionally, and slightly more annoyingly, the text got cut off on the edges.

I lined everything up according to their templates, and online, it showed that my text was well within the guideline for printing. Yet on three of the four designs, a part of the sentiment got cut off. Not a whole letter or part of a word though, so it wasn’t a huge deal - just a minor eyebrow-raiser. Next time I order something like this from Shutterfly, I’ll be sure to put my text closer to the center of the photo.

Taking pictures and writing about my Thank Yous is one thing. Actually writing out and mailing the Thank Yous? That’s another. I need to get on that!

Stay tuned as I share with you my photo-book printing experiences and some gifts for special people in our lives!

What kind of Thank-You notes will you have, or did you have for your wedding?

I really like those thank you cards! At least most people probably won’t notice that the letters were a little cropped.

Those are GORGEOUS!!! I love them!! The photo cracking isn’t noticeable at all, and I’m sure no one will notice the text either. I think they are amazing!

i love your notes!! i definitely wouldnt worry about your slight disappointments in the cards, no one will notice (but i still understand being annoyed that the product you designed isnt exactly what you got!) sigh…the difficulties of online ordering. still–gorgeous!

Despite the (small) disappointments, I think they look great. Thanks for sharing your experience…I need to find a printer for our holiday cards.

Those are so cute! I am just like you when it comes to getting paper goods printed online. Maybe you should write to them to let them know that their templates are not working, I did something similar a few months a go and got all of my things re-printed :)

Beautiful! Interestingly enough, I almost placed an order with Shutterfly yesterday for our Christmas Cards I designed. I designed it as exactly 5×7, with enough “cushion room” around all of the text. I uploaded it, and the preview looked good, until I added it to the 5×7 card! It insisted on removing a tiny bit of the edge around the entire card, almost cutting off my the outside of the text! I tried resizing the card a few times in Photoshop, and decided it was too sketchy and decided to use another vendor (artscow is cheap!! I’m hoping the quality comes out well).

I am sorry about the disappointment. I’m sure no one will notice it, your pictures are so beautiful! It has a vintage look!

I also ordered my thank you cards from Shutterfly too. I ordered the 5×7 cards and they came folded. It’s a bit more expensive but I was very happy with the results. The one thing I liked about Shutterfly is that I was able to order 1 card (test card) to see how it’d look before submitting my big order. I don’t think it’s an option with the note cards though.

I had heard it suggested to have cards made that weren’t only for weddings, and weren’t only thank-yous, so you can use them for, y’know, any other future stuff. Perhaps this was a scam by monogrammers, who knows? Anyway, I did up a card with our chops, in the same color as the invitations, and took it to the same local printer, for pennies each. Well, maybe a dime each. We got 200 of ‘em, so we’re gonna be all set for notecards for the foreseeable future.

I really like them!! I have used shutterfly for notecards for years, and sometimes have had the same scoring issue, but overall, I’ve been pleased.

I hate to be nitpicky but just in case you’re using old stamps …. the price of stamps went up to 0.44 now!

ok so, this is unrelated to the actual cards (which I love, btw), but the picture of you two on the card that you’re showing the crack? You are freaking gorgeous. Like a model. A vintage model!
