The Avocado Wedding Album

November 20th, 2009 @ 4:28 pm by Mrs. Avocado

I’ve had our wedding album in hand for a few months now and finally got around to taking some photos so you can see how gorgeous the finished product is. The album was designed by the company Albumesque, and assembled by the company KISS wedding books. Both are companies that work exclusively with photographers. I wanted an album that focused on clean and simple design elements that allowed the photos to really remain the focal point. All photos by Kelli Nicole Photography.

The album came with this lovely floral case. I store it inside whenever I don’t have it out to show it off to protect our big investment from accidental damage.

I decided to order the 12X12 with a black leather cover, and it’s HUGE. It’s beautiful, but I think if I could do it over I would scale it down in size.

The front page. I’m so glad Kelli Nicole took the time to take detail and establishing shots, as this shot of the Seattle skyline really sets the stage for the rest of the album.

I chose not to have any overlapping images or graphic elements in my design as I wanted things to be very clean and simple. It took me hours to narrow down thousands of images to just over 100, but I think those that I chose tell the story of the day really well.

My favorite part of the album? The full page spreads. At two feet wide they are absolutely stunning to view in person. The quality of Kelli Nicole’s photography really helps, as well. :)

A few details…

The book lays flat when opened, and the small fold in the middle is hardly noticeable.

Any my favorite: a yummy super-soft leather cover.

I’ll leave you with my favorite spread. Stunning, right?

Did you order an album through your photographer? Do you have any suggestions for companies non-photographers can use to get their album done?

ooh this is great. I’m just starting to figure out where I want to make my album. My photog’s are way out of my budget. Luckily he gives us a DVD of all photos so I can make my own. Hopefully some other married ladies on here have ideas. I kind of want something better than snapfish or shutterfly. But still less than $500.

How many pages did you end up having?

Wow, that is GORGEOUS! My favorite part honestly is the floral case. I usually get my albums printed through SharedInk, so I might try to make a cloth case myself!

Beautiful!

Just to make sure I’m getting in straight - Albumesque designed how the photos look on the pages (the layouts), but you bought the book from KISS wedding books? So did the two companies work together? I’m not sure I’m getting the process!

@Mrs. Gloss: Kiss doesn’t work in pages, they work in spreads. When the book lays open flat everything you see is a “spread”, and I had 20 of them. I guess you could consider that to be 40 pages.

@Miss Chocolate Chip: In this case they did, I’m not sure they do anymore as Kiss just made some changes to the way things work. Basically I just uploaded all of my images to their site, consulted with a designer a few times, and then the designer sent the pages off to Kiss to be printed. Lots of photographers do the design themselves though and just send PDFs off to the printer to be printed.

The album looks awesome. I am doing my album so I need to find a service to do mind, if only I were a professional photographer …

@amariem25:
Hi! Beautiful album! To the first commenter, another idea is to use MPix. Like you, my photog gave us the digital images and it was easy to download them to MPix, play with different layouts, and come up with a pretty book. The paper is of better quality than snapfish or shutterfly and there are more layouts to choose from. It’s not anywhere near the gorgeousness of Avocado’s album, but it’s lovely all the same and pretty inexpensive (~$100).

Has anyone tried the “assembled albums” from MPIX? They are better quality than their regular albums and supposedly ‘Flush Mount’ but I haven’t foud anyone that has one….

I too am making my own album so I am very interested to hear what people suggest.
