Getting It All Out of My System

November 21st, 2009 @ 4:00 pm by Mrs. Spaniel

Here are a bunch of lovely bridal outfits from Bargello, all made in Pakistan. They range from around $1,600 to about $2,200, and probably weigh about a thousand pounds each! I’m not really into the red and gold people usually associate with South Asian weddings, as you can probably tell.

I was really considering something along these lines, but I started to chill out a bit because it’s more than a little scary to order a $2,000 dress I’ve never laid eyes on in person before, and, as much as I love these looks, I’m just not sure that they are true to my personal style.

I wonder what my bridesmaids would wear, though, if I did… would I have them in saris? What would Mr. Spaniel wear?

If you wore cultural dresses in your wedding, did your wedding party follow suit?

I actually saw a beautiful dress the other night on “say yes to the dress”. The bride was having a multi-cultural indian wedding and she ended up buying a “normal” white wedding gown but had it dyed the most beautiful shade of red. Would that be an option?

@JuneBride_26June2010: It’s an idea, but I think I like the patterns in these lenghas more than just the idea of having a colorful dress. If I were to dye a dress, say, mint green, it’d just be a mint green dress, whereas the first lengha has a different shape and heavy silver embroidery on several different kinds of fabric. Plus there’s the risk of ruining an expensive dress. :(

Esp love the teal dress & lavender dress! ;)
Maybe the BMs could wear accenting color dresses to match-ish with the subtle colors in one of those pretty pretty dresses? so pretty!

They’re all so amazing! I feel like traditional western wedding dresses aren’t worth the price, but you can tell with those that they’re worth every penny! So rich and ornate.

Gracious, those are BEAUTIFUL! I wish I had some kind of culture to fall back on, because I would wear these in about 2 seconds flat. They’re GORGEOUS!

I love the top left!!! I would go for it! Beautiful! and the bridesmaids could wear a floor length traditional dress, or a sari.

I looooove South Asian weddings - they’re always so beautiful! I posted a while back about a friend’s wedding and their entire bridal party wore Indian wedding garb. It looked amazing!

So pretty!! If I was in a bridal party where the bride was wearing such a beautiful gown from her South Asian heritage… I’d be begging for a saris!

These dresses are beautiful! I think it would be great to have your BM in saris if you wore a traditonal lehgna.

I you go that route, I think your BMs would be happy to wear saris. I know I would, those dresses are so pretty and detailed.

I wore an ornate sari for the ceremony, and my bridesmaids wore simpler saris. Each sari was a slightly different shade of deep pink or purple. (I got them all at a shop in Jaipur). My friends looked beautiful, and since none of them had ever worn a sari before, it was pretty exciting. They did a great job!
