About Miss Trail Mix

A Wedding Band Dilemma

November 22nd, 2009 @ 4:10 pm by Miss Trail Mix

In case you’re confused, I’m not talking about the kind of band that plays music but the kind that is all sparkly and pretty on my hand! Yes, I’ve been stalking wedding bands and I’m not ashamed to admit it. It’s way more fun than when I was stalking engagement rings because I don’t have to be all sneaky and not tell Mr Trail Mix what I’m doing (yes, I was totally that girl).

Anyways, I’ve got a lot of different ideas for a wedding band. Let’s take a look at how my decision-making process evolved, and afterwards, I’m going to ask all you readers for your input, if ya don’t mind.

First off, just for fun, you all remember my ring, right?

Well, in case you’ve forgotten what it looks like, here’s a refresher:

DC+Visi01

(Personal Photo)

Round center stone, smaller diamonds that I believe are set in a shared prong setting. The band is about 2 millimeters wide. So the easiest and most obvious choice would be a matching band of the same width. Classic and (I like to think :) beautiful.

Something like this…

Blue+Ni

This one is a full eternity 2 millimeter band from BlueNile. I love it but it is not cheap and not the most original choice ever. Still, a top contender.

This 2 TCW (that’s total carat weight in case you didn’t know… oh, who am I kidding, any Weddingbee girl knows that) :) is my total dream and Mr Trail Mix would totally laugh in my face if I showed it to him. A 3 grand + ring is not in the wedding budget. Maybe this one is good for a push present later (hint, hint, Mr TM…).

While I was looking at matching bands on BlueNile, I found this pretty 5-stone ring and started picturing it against my ring. I liked the idea, but again, it was still too expensive, so I turned to vintage wedding bands… let le fun begin!

Lord knows I love me some vintage (fashion and recycling!).

It’s hard to tell if this ring would look as yellow in real life as it does in the picture… I actually like the idea of mixed metals, so I am hoping it’s yellow gold. (I emailed the jeweler, and am waiting to hear back.)

Once I started looking at vintage wedding bands, there was no stopping me. I decided I like the look of a band that would not create some sort of gap between my engagement ring and not have the band sit flush. I think this one’s so pretty.

Lang+An

This next one’s sort of an awesome combo of several ideas. Yellow gold, significant bling bling, and would not sit directly against my ring. But it is on the expensive side. I’m reluctantly considering it…

Lang+An01

I got excited when I saw this eternity band for within my budget but alas, the website says it cannot be resized and it is more than a full size too large. Sadness.

Dover+J

I’ve also always loved bezel-set stones. I heart.

Marlene

I also looked at a few diamond and sapphire rings but ultimately nixed the idea. I want someone else to get this band… maybe if you had a sapphire engagement ring?

Silvia01

This is the last contender… My friend has the white gold one and it is thin, delicate and stunning on its own. But, I would probably go rose gold. I really love mixed metals and this one is just… dreamy.

So, dear bees, which band should I choose? Let’s poll it out...

Many thanks!

I like C and E. I can’t decide which I actually like better, but I voted for E. :)

Wow, that’s a really huge jump between first place and second place!

I love the idea of mixing metal colors too! The rose color would be beautiful.

I chose A because I love the matchy-matchy look! My e-ring is very similar to yours and I have a band like A, except mine are not full eternity. Personally I think the larger stones and other designs might take away from your e-ring too much, unless you wore them on different hands, but that’s just my opinion and it’s a bit hard to judge without seeing them together. I really love the look of the intertwined bands though! Gorgeous!

Also, if budget is an issue maybe you could consider going with less than a full eternity, but still enough diamonds that you can’t tell from the top.

i LOVE the rose gold choice. it is gorgeous and would stand out from your engagement ring, but different enough that it wouldn’t detract from the e-ring’s amazingness. LOVE!!

I think we have the same ring! I’m going traditional: a matching band, though not eternity because I know I’ll get the bottom diamonds all messed up (and diamonds are brittle! even if they’re hard).

I chose A, because I think it will really complement your beautiful e-ring.
My personal favorite is B, because that honey looks just like my future wedding band. I think my stones aren’t that big… But when the ring is on my finger all you can see is bling. And I love me some sparkle! :D

Being a really big sparkle lover I would also be very interested in knowing the specifications of the stones (clean cut, colour, etc)

Just a note - please check with your jeweller that it is OK to choose a different metal for your wedding band from what you have in your e-ring. You need to match the hardness of your e-ring (so same metal, same carat), otherwise one of the rings will wear down.

I like the first one, but a close second would be option C.

I think my ring is similar to yours as well! My fiance had already purchased my wedding band when he proposed, it is very similar to option A, however, we are going to purchase another one. So there will be 2 bands on both sides of my e-ring!

I have a ring very similar to yours and I have two matching eternity bands along with a simple plain band. I love the versatility it gives me in terms of the different orders I can wear all my rings. The great thing is I plan to add colored bands on our major anniversary milestones.

We have similar e-rings except mine is a cushion cut. I think A or E would be gorgeous!

I love the bezel set though I don’t know if it would go w your e-ring.

I also love how you took the e-ring picture while you were driving! :)

My E-ring is almost identical to yours! I am going with an eternity band like A, though C is beautiful and would go well with your E-ring as well. I think E in rose gold would also be beautiful!

I guess its the 5th picture down, the one that is twisted together…i love that one and the very first one. good luck…we need to look ourselves. How long does it take for wedding bands to come in after ordering them?

Can I vote twice? I like A and C. The A looks classic and will go beautifully with your ring. Option C, the intertwined bands, looks so romantic and girly.

Oooo I love that intertwined option. It’s delicate and unexpected - would complement your e-ring setting beautifully I bet!

I’m partial to A, but that is probably because I’m a matchy matchy girl when it comes to earrings, necklaces, everything!

we have the exact same ring!! and I got the matching 2mm band to go with it…I love it.
I’m hoping to double band it for an anniversary in the near future to make the band a little wider (my long fingers can handle a little more ring)

One note is that I didn’t get mine soldered together, and i wish I had! they slide around so much. I’m getting it done over Christmas.

I chose the matching 2mm, because I prefer a matching set, but they’re all really beautiful!

We have similar rings! We just bought my wedding band and it’s similar to the 1st one so I pick the 1st one!

I LOVE C! That’s what I was originally looking for. I ended up with something different of course. :-) Turns out my ering needed a specially-fit band to go with it.

good luck with the decision!! personally, I think it is harder to choose a Wedding band then an Engagement Ring. my fiance&I looked at them together, & he knew which one I loved, but ultimately he made the decision on his own {the one I love!!} but buying a Wedding Ring.. its harder for some reason. anyone else agree??

hi Miss Trail Mix

I Love number 2 and number 5. Like the idea of the whole vintage thing… Have you decided on one yet? Or what’s your best choices so far?
