Dark Room, Bright Colors

November 23rd, 2009 @ 6:21 pm by Mrs. Parfait

I’ve been a little torn about our color scheme. Since we haven’t met with our florist, there’s still time to switch from our bright citrus scheme to something that would match our reception hall better. I love our colors (especially bright pink!) but burgundy, brown, and taupe would look perfect in our ballroom. Those colors aren’t “us”, but sometimes I wonder if it would be classier and more eyeball-friendly if our colors matched our venue.

Because of this little conundrum, it’s always a pleasure to see examples of cheery colors in dark spaces, as shown in the pictures below!

Fresh, pink, and happy—and all in a dark space! I’m in awe! Notes to self:

  • Wrap menus with gorgeous, hand-made belly bands.
  • Make pretty, patterned hanging lanterns.
  • Find antique-looking candlesticks and vases.
  • Order an abundance of fluffy flowers and succulents.

Sigh, can I just copy + paste this wedding into mine? :)

Do your colors match your venue?

Our venue is pretty neutral on colors (I seriously think almost anything could work… but that’s part of why we picked it). I *love* this inspiration, and even though I think you are pointing out the flowers and pink accents, I totally wish my cake looked like that one. ;)

I went through the same thing!! And my wedding venue colors are the same as yours, burgundy, gold, taupe…. I decided to coordinate with my venue. My main colors are silver, gold and white. I’m going to use some burgundy rose petals on my aisle runner, but otherwise the flowers will all be white and ivory. I think it’s going to look kind of “vintage glam”, or at least that’s what I keep telling myself!

I’m hoping mine will but it’s totally dependent on the weather…Since my colors are pale yellow and blue, I’m hoping the sun and sky will match…But if it’s raining out for my outdoor wedding, then I will have bright colors in a dark place, just like you! I think it will look gorgeous no matter what…

These pictures are stunning. I have picked my colors but not a venue, so I am hoping it will be a little matchy, but if not I’m sure I will be back to these photos for inspiration. Thanks!

Those are such great pics! Ours go with our venue, but only because our venue is pretty neutral, so there’s not much to NOT go with our colors!

Gorgeous! Please don’t nix the bright colors. They will look wonderful! If you go the safe route, it won’t be as interesting–and it won’t be you!

We didn’t realize it at the time, but our reception room had beautiful gold brocade curtains that fit with our black-ivory-gold-champagne color scheme. I love those bright colors, you have to go with them!

This is awesome! I love the contrast of the dark colors and the pops of pink (hmmm, come to think of it, that might be why I decided on black & pink for my colors!).
