Mrs. Cheeseburger's Picture
Mrs. Cheeseburger, Baltimore, MD/State College, PA Age and Occupation: 25, Medical Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Medical Student Engagement Date: June 28, 2008 Wedding Date: March 2010 Venue: Catholic Church Ceremony & Hotel Reception About Me: I'm a passionate girl from Pittsburgh, currently living in Baltimore for school, who loves Penn State, seeing movies, football, thunderstorms, black and white photos, Christmas, good beer, my amazing friends and family, and of course, my mister! We met, fell in love, got engaged, and will be married at our alma mater (go lions!) in a traditional Catholic ceremony followed by a hotel reception with lots of DIY details. It means so much to have our families and friends meet at our favorite place on earth to celebrate our love for one another - I truly couldn't ask for anything more!
About Mrs. Cheeseburger

When we last spoke shoes, we were here:

The beautiful Boutique 9 Udells in a luxurious purple. Then I found this picture while browsing purple wedding details on The Knot:

Gorgeous, right? At that point, I had never heard of shoe clips, so I promptly began educating myself on these magnificent accessories. I never thought about adding embellishments to a pair of shoes, but it really can give you a wow factor that you don’t get otherwise!

First I thought about buying a pair to add to my shoes. Some of them can be relatively expensive, but I found these two options on this site for reasonable prices:

I had a specific picture of what I wanted in my mind. I loved the idea of having pearls and crystals, but I wanted to keep with our color scheme. When I failed to find shoe clips that had both purple and green accents, I thought about trying to make them myself.

I visited Michael’s and got some supplies. I started with two wreath-style brooch clips like the one below and a thin-gauged wire thread.

Then I wanted some pretty crystals, and I found beads that seemed to fit into our color scheme well:

So I spent an afternoon stringing beads randomly through the wreath brooch clip - it was actually pretty easy, just time-consuming! But what about how they would look on the shoes?

I’m still undecided. Some days I like the way they look, but then sometimes I feel like they look a little too homemade. As of now, I am able to pin them onto the shoe if I like, or if I decide to keep them for sure, I will probably sew them into place so that they lay a little flatter.

Here you can see the shoes with and without the DIY clips:

What do you think? Keep the clips or lose them?

Have you ever DIYed something and then been unsure about it?

After seeing the first photo, I loved them but seeing the naked shoe against the shoe clip, I’m undecided. I think they look nice but they cover the major design of the shoe. Have you tried pinning it on the outside for some off center sparkle? I reall like the pins but I also really like the shoe as is. Sorry this comment is not helpful but great job on the DIY!

I think they’re great!! You should keep them. Or you could do without for the ceremony and then add for the reception. :)

I really like the clip, but I prefer the unadorned shoe. They’re gorgeous, either way you go, tho!

I like the clips, but I think I’d like them more if there were some tiny pearls and/or crystals/gems incorporated into the look. I think the result would maybe pair better with the satin fabric on the shoe (which seems a little fancier than the beads by themselves do)–

I like the little pop the clips adds to the shoe

i gotta break with the pack here and vote no-do not like.
it’s not that you didn’t do a great job, it’s just the piece doesn’t go with the elegance of the shoe. that pearl clip you had in the post looked really beautiful, it seems more the shoe’s speed if that sounds right.

if you want to incorporate green, keep your eye out for emerald (since the purple is already in the shoe) and clear colored rhinestone clips, they look awesome and i’ve seen a bunch on ebay for cheap.

I totally agree with j.grossman13.

I love the fact you made the clips but it does not go with the shoe, maybe because the clip is a bit too small for the shoe?
