Hair Guilt

November 24th, 2009 @ 12:13 pm by Mrs. Pudding

Since getting engaged, I have felt horribly guilty every time I entered a salon and watched even a centimeter fall off of my long locks. I think that most brides-to-be feel the pressure to grow out their hair before the wedding. I got my last haircut before going to Poland in early August. I plan on getting one or two trims before getting a final haircut before the wedding, but for the most part, it’s grow, grow, grow!

Unfortunately, that also means fairly limp hair, and lots and lots of ponytails. I’ve been pinning up my bangs with hair pins and head bands, and mostly wearing my hair in messy up dos. I was sure that I would give in and get a cut soon… how long can a girl go without letting down her hair?!?

Recently, Mr. Pudding suggested that we go out on the town. He believes that date night is important for us, since I am cooped up inside the house all day. Also, it gives us a chance to distance ourselves from the house and have some alone time. Since Mr. P has been seeing a makeup-less, sweatpants wearing me for the last month or so, I decided to get a little dolled up for him. I put on make up and my favorite sweater (as well as my booty-hugging jeans). I started working on my hair, but instead of going to my default ponytail, I decided to actually blow dry and style.

Hair Guilt : wedding hair Img 021 It turns out that the only thing wrong with my hair is the fact that I am too lazy to style it. It took about 5 minutes to blow dry my (thin) hair, and another 10 to wrap it in velcro rollers. I think that it looks fabulous, and definitely encourages me to keep it growing!

Are you growing out your hair for the wedding? Have you found the process to be a bit frustrating or are you loving your new long locks?

Looks great!! And yes, I’m growing it out and just got a haircut last week but asked my hair girl to just cut it as much as she absolutely had to. She thinks I’m being crazy, but whatevs. I want some long hair for the wedding!

I’ve been growing out my hair for the wedding, but I’ve always liked it long anyway (I only cut it when I started law school and had no time for styling!). The process is less frustrating and more expensive… I want it to grow nicely instead of as a messy hunk of mess, so I have to trim it a lot, which strangely doesn’t cost any less than a full cut and style.

Looks awesome! You know you have a good cut when you can let it grow for a few months and it still retains its style. I have been trying to grow mine out for the wedding, but I got a bad haircut about a month ago. I asked for a couple of long layers, and I ended up with a lot of really short layers :( So I’ve been wearing mine in a ponytail too.

I’m also growing out my hair for the wedding. I agree with Spaniel — trims should be cheaper than a regular hair cut, but they never seem to be! Ah, well.

Oooh, your hair looks great! You can keep growing it out, but keep getting layers cut into it when you feel like you need a cut. I kept going back to the salon, but I’d tell my stylist to shape it up without losing any length.

I haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate have super long hair, but the Mr. is crazy about it! I’ve been growing mine out which means I have tons of hair all over my floors, falling out in the shower…. etc. I’m envious of cute new haircuts and have even forgone my meticulousness in keeping my ends trimmed, in hopes that it will make my stubborn hair cooperate to hold a wedding style. SIGH.

I guess I’ve been growing mine too. I take lazy to a new level- I cut it in a short bob August 2008 and then didn’t cut it until September of this year- because I forgot. LAZY- it’s getting long and I might as well continue to grow it. Mr P can’t wait for me to cut it short- he’s sick of finding my hair everywhere.

I hear you Pudding- my hair would look awesome if i would just do something with it- (i say guilty as it is wrapped in my go to style- a bun). Again, LAZY me.

Oooh la la. Hot stuff! I do the same thing; I complain about my hair and then on the rare occasion when I take more than 5 minutes to blow dry and style it, I realize it’s not my hair that’s the problem, it’s my lazy butt.

Wow vavavoom! nice blow out…I find myself too lazy to really style my hair on a daily basis (mostly because I run out of time in the am) but when I finally do for a night out I am always so pleasantly surprised!

Oh my gosh, thank you for posting this! My hair is just like yours, and I have been growing it out for the wedding with much frustration. I usually just blowdry it, but never bother to style it. It is so long and just hangs in my face. Perhaps I should get a pair of velcro rollers for some volume. Thanks again!

@Valhalla: velcro rollers are definitely key. I used to just blow dry and go when my hair was shorter, but it’s just not working these days. My hair needs that extra lift to give it more of a shape :)

Is that your natural color? Beautiful!

My hair has always been long, and pretty much one length. I think I was always terrified that I was going to end up with a terrible haircut, so my mom just hacked off a few inches every 6 months or so. When I finally decided to do a trial for the wedding, the hairdresser told me we’d have to cut some layers into it otherwise she’d have one helluva time getting it to style and lay how I wanted. Now I love my layers and new haircut, I can’t believe I was missing out on all this for 20-odd years!

you look beautiful!!!

I actually just chopped all mine off. A good 5 or 6 inches!!! I’ve been growing it out for YEARS with a few “trims” here and there - just to touch up the ends…

I kept saying “after the wedding” I’ll cut it off…but I finally got so sick and tired of it - that before I decided to chop, I found the CUTEST hair style for short hair that I want for my wedding day - decided on it and chopped off the hair! :) And I can’t tell you how HAPPY I am that I did! whatever length your hair is, though, I’m sure you’ll be gorgeous!

I’m a totally lazy stylist, but your blow dry and curl really makes the difference!

I’ve been growing mine out, but I have to get it cut next week for my sisters wedding (I just can’t go to the RD looking the way I do). I am very nervous, I don’t 100% trust hair stylists..

@pvaulter718: Hmm….it’s not the colour I was born with, but it’s the standard colour that my hair turns these days. Like I dye it chocolate brown, after a month or so I have this, I put blond highlights in, after a weeks days, I get this. Does that make sense? I haven’t died my hair in about 6 months.
