What do a hamster and a burlesque dancer have in common?

Well. Not much - except for some general hair and makeup fabulousness. Yep, while I was searching for hair and makeup inspiration photos for my trial, a lot of the photos I picked were of Dita Von Teese. I was a little surprised and a lot amused, but I realized this made sense - I’m looking for a down-do of structured waves, and clean but defined eyes with bold lips. Think old-school, classic ’40s. And the lovely Dita has that look down pat. Witness:

I love her eye makeup! I’d go with a deeper lip, since I hardly ever wear lipstick. The bright red would probably startle me (as well as Mr. Hammy).

I love her hair in this picture. That extra bump on the bottom left is part of her… dress-thing, not her hair.

My big question was - how would this look translate on my (obviously) Asian face? I searched for inspiration pictures featuring Asian women to get a better idea, but just couldn’t find what I was looking for. Would this look be a hit or a bust?

Good luck! As long as you can get the curls to stick, I don’t see any reason this wouldn’t translate well on Asian hair and face. It’s pretty classic.

This was similar to my look, except that I went softer on the lipstick. It turned out fabulously and photographed great!

Thanks so much for posting. I too want that 40’s look. Side part, long curls and bright red lips. I’m having my engagement shoot in 2 weeks and already spoke with my makeup artist about this look for the wedding. She gets it and I love it. I can wait to see your trial photos!

there are stylists that specialize in the retro look that deta has. and it would look wonderful on you, i can totally see it.
i hope you find someone that can do it or is willing to do a trail for you! we have to see photos!

Awesome. I’m Asian too, and want to go with the red lipstick look for our photos, at least. My inspiration is Shoshanna, with her red lipstick and birdcage hat thing, from Inglourious Basterds (which I admit is a weird place to look to for beauty inspiration).
