On Your Hand or on Its Stand!

November 24th, 2009 @ 12:33 pm by Mrs. Lamb

My dad used to always tell me, “On your face or in the case!” I suppose you have to start drilling it in after the 4th or 5th pair of lost/crushed spectacles during the 4th grade. Turns out, the same idea really applies to rings. It took me a minute to figure out another rhyme for the ring concept, because it had to rhyme in order to make my life complete today. If you’re going to apply the “On your hand or on its stand” wisdom to your rings, there’s no need to be stodgy about it. I have a darling stand from Providence Art Glass. I had been wanting to buy one, long before I was engaged, and my bling was the perfect excuse to indulge. Mama Lamb and Father Lamb decided to surprise me with it at my shower. I loved it so much that I immediately ordered it for two other friends who were also recently engaged.

This red version is the actual piece I own.

And this blue beauty I specifically ordered for Maid of Honor E to complement her gorgeous engagement ring bejeweled with sapphire side stones.

Do you have a special place that you keep your rings when you take them off? Have you ever had to learn the hard way to keep your rings in a safe place?

I had gotten in the habit on placing them in a small decorative dish I put my earrings and watch in every night…but now I must have a stand! how pretty!

Cool! I don’t think I will ever buy a ring stand, b/c I wear my rings all the time! If I ever do take them off for an extended period of time, I plan on putting them in our safe. I’m just too paranoid about them getting stolen. (Before we got married, our house was broken into, and they went through my jewelry box, stole a bunch of my grandmother’s jewelry and our wedding bands.)

that’s a sweet stand! I usually take my rings off and put them in our mirror cabinet, but I know one of these days it’s going to slip out and down the drain.

Yes, last year at Thanksgiving my guy got me a set of coasters from an Amish silversmith. We don’t really use coasters for drinks, so instead we use them as ring dishes.

that looks cool. right now i still habitually wear my promise ring. i’ll probably do the same with my ering as well. i don’t have a problem with it snagging but on the rare occasion that it does, i just turn it in a little and it’s fine

That’s so cute, I’ve never heard of the stand before! I keep mine in the original box it came in on a shelf in the bathroom. I’ve learned to close the box though cause it’s right over the toilet and I started having visions of it getting flushed.

I have a stand that I keep in the kitchen which is where I put them when doing the dishes. At night I keep my rings in my jewelry box. Because my engagement ring is an heirloom I don’t travel with it and keep it in a locked safe whenever we leave the state. We have insurance but the ring is one of kind and irreplaceable so it’s not worth it to me to wear it all the time. We had our bands custom made and own the molds, so if they are lost or stolen we can always get new ones.

Aw I love those! And that’s a really great gift… have you seen the ones that are shaped like elephants and you put the ring on their trunks? They’re super cute too!

Haha… the stands are BEAUTIFUL, but is it terrible of me that the first thing that popped in my head when I saw it was that it looked… phallic? LOL. My mind’s not usually in the gutter, swear!! :D

I need to get something like this to put my rings in when I’m in the shower. I hate just sitting them on the counter.

I have a cute ring dish that my Nana used to use. It’s like a little cup with a nail-hole in the top. My Nana always kept it by the sink to take off her rings when she did the dishes, so I do the same :) It’s not as cute as those, but I think the sentimental value means more to me

I only take my ring off when I shower and when I lift weights. Both are bad news: when I shower, I put it either in a jewelry box…or on my bureau…or on a ledge..yeah, no bueno.
When I work out, it’s at Mr. Potato Head’s studio, so I put it on his desk. Also not the brightest idea.
Sometimes when I work out I put it in my glasses case–so that it’s off the hand and in the case, to mix your rhymes up!

The only time I take my E ring off is when I’m sleeping and the lamp in my nightstand has a switch you twist on its base that I use for my “stand” but now I want the one you have!

I just leave ‘em on. Once, when traveling to a not-so-safe area, I hid them in the house in a suuuuper secret (and relatively secure) location. But otherwise, eh. They’re made to last, right? Maybe if I were a boxer I’d feel differently.

The husband takes his off to shower, and just plunks it on the edge of the sink; I feel like that’s more prone to disaster than just showering with it on!

I have a stand similar to this in the kitchen, and my ering came with a Wedgewood holder that I use at night for our rings. Those stands are way cuter than the plain heart that I have, I may have to get me one like that!

I have a nice crystal ring stand by my bed–it came as a complimentary gift when Mr Spin bought my e-ring. Plus, I have a coaster/dish/spoonrest by the sink that I use when I wash dishes and I take the box the ring came in for overnight trips.

I lose things all the time, so I try to be really good about putting it where it back where it belongs. :P Especially after the time I put it on the bathroom counter while I took a shower, then knocked it off with my towel when I got out–narrowly missing the toilet. Eep! :|

@Bluebell: I totally had the same reaction. My first thought when I looked at this post (at work) was, is this work appropriate?? Seriously though… a good place to store your rings? I’m all for it.
