Put a Cork in it!

November 24th, 2009 @ 8:20 am by Mrs. Cheeseburger

At some point in wedding planning, I came across pictures like this:

Put a Cork in it! : wedding decor Maison

and this:

I knew I had to have something like them. Do we have a wine theme? No. Are we getting married at a vineyard or in wine country? Nope. Do we like wine? Yes. Are these escort cards adorable? Yep!

And so the quest for a way to tie these bad boys into our big day began.

When I think of wine, I also think of grapes:

Notice anything in particular about those colors? Purple and green! Perfect.

We asked our florist about incorporating grapes into the centerpieces, and she was really excited about it. At the time I didn’t have any inspiration pictures, but at some point I stumbled upon this picture via Style Me Pretty, and was in love:

OK, so we have grapes and corks. Fine. What else? Well, I found these beauties online for $0.55 each, and I knew that we had found our out of town boxes!

Then I realized that they were the same gable boxes that Mrs. Bell Pepper (looooove her) used for hers!

Lastly, while on vacation, I noticed the cutest vintage doorknob wine stoppers - Knobstoppers!

I think these would make the cutest gifts. For what, you ask? I’m not exactly sure, but I’m working on it. :)

Did one little wedding project spawn a whole mass of ideas for your wedding?

I *swoon* at all of this stuff and when we found our location, it happened to be a winery. I’m so excited about all of the grape/wine elements we’ll be able to incorporate.

That’s so cute! I was at a wedding at a vineyard where they did the place settings in corks! It’s cute!

We’re actually do a wine theme! Thanks for those gable boxes I might check them out although I don’t know what I will do with 100 of them!
We’re not doing the cork place cards but if I did I would save corks (have a ton already) and ask family and friends to do the same. Much more personalized and cost efficient!

Oh man, those cork placeholders (easy project) spun me into cutting wine bottles into vases (hard project). I’m loving the knobstoppers! I had found wine stoppers for favors, but none of them really spoke to me. I can’t wait to see how it all comes together for you! :)

@Mrs. D’orsay:
You’re my inspiration for wine bottle vases! Just couldn’t see spending $$$ on all those vases. What would I do with them afterwards? We currently have 9 1.5 Liter bottles. hehe. And a couple 750ML bottles as well!

We used wine corks for our our escort cards also! I wanted to use them for all our other little signs & table numbers, but I actually left all the rest at home :(

That is so great! I love the grapes as a centerpiece (although maybe I’m partial because I used lemons and limes for mine)

I love how organic those grapes look–they really blend with the rest of the flowers. Great ideas!

When I started seeing pictures like that, I wanted to change our wedding to a winery! Luckily there is a vineyard right across the street. :)

Love it! We aren’t having a wine theme either but I saw the place card idea a few weeks ago and had to do it because we love wine and visit wineries all the time! Luckily we went to a local winery and asked what they did with their corks and the guy just filled up a bag for me! Now my FI and I get to have fun cutting/sanding them!

I went to a wedding (not at a winery or anything) that used corks for their placecard holders and grapes were incorporate into the centerpieces. They weren’t mixed in with the flowers, but the centerpieces were placed on top of a round mirror and the grapes were also on the mirror. We munched on the grapes during the reception, and they tied in perfectly with her purple and green color scheme!

A friend of mine did the cork place card holders. I love them! Do you have a plan for how you are going to gather all of the corks? Drink a LOT of wine? Our friends were hounding everyone they knew for their wine bottle corks during the lead up to their wedding :-)

Those boxes are too cute! Love them, and since we’ll probably get married at a winery, they would be great!
