Mrs. Dew Drop's Picture
Miss Dew Drop, San Francisco Age and Occupation: 31, Attorney Fiance's Age and Occupation: 35, Managerial Type at an Internet Company Engagement Date: December 12, 2008 Wedding Date: September 2009 Venue: Ralston Hall Mansion About Me: I'm a food-and-baking-obsessed, occasionally sword wielding Bay Area native who is quickly becoming overwhelmed with planning a wedding and opening a law practice at the same time. (Brilliant move, that one.) I love reading, online shopping, ice cream, my Macbook, Bollywood movies, hoodies, the UCLA Bruins, and of course, Mr. Dew Drop.
About Mrs. Dew Drop

I spent a lot of time thinking about music before our wedding. The ceremony music alone took up, oh, a good couple of months of thought process. Our rehearsal dinner required its own fairly lengthy soundtrack. And then there was the playlist and do not play list. Um, yeah, I thought about those for so long that I was frantically finalizing those the morning before the wedding. Whoops.

Needless to say, I was relieved after the wedding. I was finally done thinking about all that wedding-related music… or was I?

Dun dun dun. (Or however you crazy kids are indicating melodramatic music these days.)

It seems that we need some music for our wedding video. Well, specifically, our videographer would like us to pick out a song for the highlight/recap section at the end of video. I’d also like to give him some Bollywood tunes to use for the more Indian portions of our wedding.

It would be easy if I weren’t music-ed out. Well, okay, maybe I’d have to be a little less indecisive for it to be easy. Still, my mind is a blank. Or it’s been going in circles. Or some strange combination of the two. In any case, it isn’t pretty, and I desperately need some help!

Music Overload (And A Desperate Plea for Help!) : wedding music Scream scream_

Kind of how I feel right now, after thinking waaaay too much about music.

So that’s where you come in: What’s your favorite wedding-y song? (And bonus gratitude points if you have a favorite Bollywood wedding-y song, too.)

Mr. DD and my worn-out iPod both thank you in advance!!

Hmm, are you going for something fun and upbeat, or something more slow? Personally, I think anything by Sigur Ros would be amazing.

All the music during our ceremony except for the mothers walking down the isle (can’t remember what it was called, but i can hear it in my head!) and myself (canon in d) was musical pieces from Peanuts, or Charlie Brown/Snoopy.

I listened to song after song after song and then they all started to sound the same! Take about a head ache! I then stumbled upon Charlie Brown Christmas (I was researching over the holidays) and it just kind of stuck. I like their musical pieces a lot and my husband and I have always had a thing for the Peanuts characters. It just fit. Perfectly.

I will admit, I was nervous at first, trying to figure out how it would sound in my head. I then downloaded all the songs and put them in order how they would be played on the big day and it was perfect.

Think outside the box. It’s what makes your day special to you and your husband. Any one can go on line and look up classical music and put a ceremony together. Add your personal touch or pick songs your parents/grandparents had in their ceremony.

These were three songs we used for our video, I am not sure how nontraditional you are but if you are sick of typical stuff…

You are the Best Thing by Ray LaMontagne
Book of Love - Peter Gabriel
Just Like Heaven - The Cure

@Mrs. Mouse: For the highlight section, our videographer wants something more upbeat. But I’m thinking a few slower song suggestions for other parts of the video couldn’t hurt… (Although I suppose I shouldn’t get too enthusiastic or else he’s really going to wonder why I’m sending him twelve CD’s of music by the time this is all done!)

@teawithmisspaloma: Thanks! Nontraditional suggestions are very welcome. :)

I fully intend to use “Light and Day” by The Polyphonic Spree for our highlights, should we end up with the video. It is very joyful, but starts out soft with a tubla intro (at least I think it is tubla), so that could also add an Indian vibe to it. And it is VERY unique :~)

Noticed by Mutemath is upbeat and very joyful. We used it for our intro into the reception.

Thanks for all the suggestions! Keep them coming, please! Would love to hear more. :)

@fromcharleston: PM is on its way to you.

@soniasays: I’m not quite sure what I’m looking for either! I think I’m probably just being too indecisive on this altogether. But I really appreciate all the suggestions! :)

Congrats :-)
When we got married a month ago we had to do the same. we went for a few indian fusion classical tracks with a good beat (try nitin sawhney) and then i LOVE “Simply Beautiful” by Al Green (slow/sexy number for the special moments on the movie). Also randomly we went for Blister in the Sum (Violent Femmes) - great opening few bars and Masterblaster by Stevie Wonder (one of our favourites) and Lovecats by the Cure… If you are looking for Bhangra - Panjabi MC is your man (and also recommend the song Darshan by B21 as it is my absolute favourite). Stuff I used at for dancing at the reception (which may help on your film) which our non-indian friends loved (as well as my husband, as he is English) - Mauja hi Mauja, Kajra Je, Saiyaan Re and Aaja Nachale (which is v good).
Good luck - let us know what the final tunes are!
